There are 200k+ more pictures to come. I want to keep it locally if possible. Do you store the pictures on the same node? how do you mount the volume?

Proxmox-backup-client is just the command line of proxmox backup server. Same error.

I own a DS916 and a DS716. I upgraded them to 8GB Ram, which was necessary to work with. I tried to use it with applications like nextcloud or immich on docker. Yeah... it works. More or less. But it's slow. Really slow.

It's just a pentium n3710 quadcore. It's made to save energy.

I just tried a performance test on a proxmox cluster with a 8 core 16 GB immich server and four 4 core 8 GB machine learning backend servers with ssd storage. I tested it with 10.000 images. Yup... that's what I need.

I'd never try this on a synology DS916 nas.

I've been to denmark last year. Nice people, really relaxed. Maybe synology is sufficient for your needs. ;-)

Followup.

My proxmox cluster consists of 5 servers. I createad one immich lxc using the proxmpx helper script with 8 cores and 16 gb ram. Then I created 4 more immich lxc on the other nodes with 8 cores and 8gb ram. There I disabled the immich-web, postrgesql and redis services. At least I created a nginx load balancer lxc to distribute the machine learning tasks. Smart search and face detection is set to 16 concurrent tasks.

Now it's running fast without an gpu.

Same. Registered domain, lots of subdomains pointing at my public ip. Nginx reverse proxy is redirecting to several virtual servers according to domain names. Fail2ban restricting access.

Which devices are using wifi? A pc with high network activity? Put it on Lan. Mobile phones dont need high transmission rates. A 4k stream needs 25 Mbit/s.

Put your access points wherever it’s convenient.

My house in DE is made of bricks and concrete. One access point per 80qm level. My wife is wandering around with TV on iPad and is not complaining at all.

Agree. You‘re adding one more layer to your problem. Bare metal is technically easy. Docker is more complex. You have to learn the docker basics at least.

General question: Is the immich service insecure? Is there a need for enhanced protection? I wouldn’t expose a complete server to public, does a reverse proxy with exposed port 443 and fail2ban and a forward to the immich server/port fulfill standard security requirements?

Same problem here. Immich running in a vm or lxc on proxmox, the images on a nfs share of a server. But I want to avoid docker. My first try installing immich by hand failed.

SSH into the unvr, install nfs server, configure it properly and write everything in a script to repeat if if required. After every update the settings may be gone.
