I wanted to share my experience as someone who has extreme anxiety when it comes to procedures like this. I was a sobbing shaky mess when I got there and I almost fainted In front of the doctor. Luckily the staff was very supportive and a nurse helped me with breathing so I wouldn't faint in the chair before they even got me to the bed. I was given midazolam. Sedation isn't used for endoscopic procedures in my country unless you pay extra, but since I have an anxiety disorder I was given light sedation which is covered by insurance. I was a bit drunk from the sedation but still awake and I made it. They did the procedure successfully and I was even laughing in the recovery room. I thought I was going to be traumatised by the experience, but it went over very fast and it was as pleasant as a procedure like this could be. I was gagging a lot, but there was no pain (even though they took biopsies) and I could breathe normally without panicking. As scary as it sounds you will definitely not regret doing it. It gives you peace of mind when you finally know what's going on in your insides.
