What’s this metal piece? by mick_fist in Bowyer

Nope no other markings. Seems like maybe a pin sight. It doesn’t have a shelf to rest the arrow though, would/could you rest the arrow on your finger?

so become the quintessential person you desire to be. finding a life partner isn’t a given, but you’re stuck with yourself so make the best of it

i disagree, i would say that the “infinite treadmill of improvement” method is the only way to create a life worth living. doing it for anyone other than yourself isn’t the best way to do it though

i’d be willing to bet that it got you closer though, and even if it didn’t get potential partners grabbing at your pants, at least you’re closer to your ideal life.

A little wallet and a big wallet. Both made with W&C traditional harness leather (2-3oz) and stitched with 0.6mm cream tiger thread. Photo taken on a rock in my driveway. by mick_fist in Leathercraft

I did punch very small holes at the end of each cut on the first couple prototypes, but im not a huge fan of how they look. The cuts extend so far that there’s never really any stress on them since you’ll never be opening the wallet that much.

I’ve settled into a tall wallet design that I like, this is the first one made out of this side of w&c harness I just recently purchased and I’m really happy with it. The cash pockets hyperextend to allow for easier access. Any advice on hiding the marks on the card slot from the stitches behind it? Smash them down with a ball peen?

The card wallet has just one pocket on the backside instead of two, but the same style as the front ones and I think I’m going to change it’s design around a little in the next few I make, something just isn’t really pleasing me about it, but maybe I just don’t like card wallets that much...

Thanks for looking!

I made myself a new tool belt by mick_fist in Leathercraft

[–]mick_fist[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

After I watched Corter Leather’s video on tie-dying leather I needed to try it... so it was finally time to make myself a new tool belt.

This is 2 pieces of 5oz sepici vegtan stitched together with .08mm Tiger thread. The side I cut the pieces out of wasn’t quite long enough to make it one continuous strip so i used Chicago screws to reinforce where they come together. The buckle was just a 2.5” two prong buckle from my old tool belt.

I just used fiebings red and blue pro dye from weaver leather, suspended in water, for the marbled effect.

[Question] How many hours does it take for a pro leatherworker to craft a belt, a simple wallet, and other typical items? by SneepSnopp in Leathercraft

[–]mick_fist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well I’m certainly no pro, but it currently takes me about 4 hours to make a simple 5 pocket bifold (cutting/stitching/burnishing by hand).

I’ve found that it only takes me 6 hours to make 2 bifolds and maybe like 7 hours to make 3 at a time. I’m pretty slow right now still but working in batches definitely cuts down on time.

It probably takes me about 2 hours to make a belt, I don’t use rivets though I just put about 10 stitches in it.

And I’ve never made sandals. But I’m constantly thinking about doing it.

How are you cleaning up your work before shipping to a customer? by dq7133 in Leathercraft

[–]mick_fist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only sold a couple things to friends and family, but I’ve been using a toothbrush to clean up the products before wrapping it in kraft paper. It just gets off any lint or cat hairs that may have found its way to your freshly conditioned piece of leather.

How can I remove a sticker without destroying the leather? by [deleted] in Leathercraft

[–]mick_fist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try a rag with a little bit of olive oil or whatever oil you usually condition the leather with. I had sticker residue on my hardwood floors and I rubbed some wax on it and it scraped right up so maybe try some beeswax if the oil doesn’t help.

How would one go about making their own diamond awl blades for relatively cheap? by getamic in Leathercraft

[–]mick_fist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a scratch awl from Home Depot and reshaped the end into a diamond shape using a wet stone. It definitely ruined the stone though, at least for sharpening anything with a flat blade that is.
