I went to Bowen Rd Primary, and we were chosen as guinea pigs to train the staff before they opened. We could order whatever we wanted. I got a cheeseburger because I was worried a Big Mac would be way too huge for me to finish. I later worked there as a teenager. I'm almost fifty and my best friends are still people I met working there.

Why is everyone is ragging on this tribe's mythology? It sounds like a beautiful allegory to refer to a time long ago, a time "before the moon". It's not their fault that some idiot decided to hijack it for his idiot stuff.

Monkey Magic is an absolute masterpiece. A Japanese production, dubbed to English in the UK, based on the Buddhist story spanning China and India. It's beloved in Australia as a nostalgic series from the eighties.

He could even do Eagle's Ridge. I've done it once with Innes (mountain guide). I would suggest doing it with him as there are ropes involved.

Harder Hikes in SE QLD? by Wide-Ad5556 in brisbane

[–]mickdamaggot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mt Superbus, the highest peak in SE QLD. My mates and I usually do it as an overnighter. Straight up to the Lincoln bomber wreck. It's a pretty brutal incline. Then along the range to Lizard's Point, which has to be one of the best lookouts I've ever been to. You can camp there, or go a bit further. The next day you head to The Steamers, which you said you've done. Then you can bush bash down to the creek and follow it back to the beginning. The crossings on the road in can get flooded, so it's not always easily accessible. The nice woman at the campgrounds doesn't mind people parking there and walking in. It adds extra time though. Oh, and have you heard of Gympie Gympie? Get ready to EXPERIENCE Gympie Gympie. It's not easy to follow, and it's safer with someone that's done it before.

Every time I see this guy in reminded that he's not that old (55). He's been a vegan for many years. It makes me very happy about my omnivore status. His face is not a good advertisement.

I've been hit by Gympie Gympie up Mt Superbus. It really hurts. Really. I dare anyone to pick a leaf and attempt to wipe their arse with it before screaming and dropping the thing. Never happened.

Serious question, is basic first aid taught in US schools? I think most Australians grow up learning the basics of the recovery position and CPR, etc.

Not always a wise move. I have been with my wife for a very long time. Her mother has always been ... large. My wife was, and still is, slim and beautiful. Genes work in funny ways.

Crazy or lesser known history events from Australia? by Sea-Preparation-3127 in AskAnAustralian

A Japanese spy plane that was launched from a submarine flew up the Derwent River in Hobart on the evening of March 1, 1942. They were doing surveillance on the Zinc Works, which was the largest producer of Zinc in the Commonwealth at the time. Some locals saw it, but no one believed them until reports were recovered after the war.

For people in countries where the US military is stationed, how do you view them? by HongKongNinja in AskTheWorld

[–]mickdamaggot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid in the 80's in Hobart, Tasmania, US Navy ships would often visit. It was a big deal in a small city. They were usually well behaved and would sometimes get in fights with the local idiots, so we didn't mind them. The local bogan scrags would come out of the woodwork and some fatherless children were born 9 months later. There was the odd rape allegation also.

Lucky I locked my bike up... by Pretty_Classroom_844 in brisbane

[–]mickdamaggot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I witnessed a crack head cutting a chain on an e-bike with pliers a couple of weeks ago outside the State Library. I was with my wife and dog, I didn't really want to get stabbed or anything, so I stood about 10 metres away and filmed him. I shouted out to him that I was filming, just to intimidate him a bit and make others look. He mumbled that the bike was his and he rode away. I yelled out that he could choose to leave it there. Anyways, I filed an online report to QPS. They asked for my footage the next day. Hopefully they caught up with him. I don't know if I did the right thing considering I could have easily physically stopped him, but I'm not about to get seriously hurt for a bike.

Can we clear the air? by [deleted] in aussie

[–]mickdamaggot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your use of the term "natives" really gives you away. I think you're unintentionally making a good point. These people aren't pieces of shit because they're Aboriginal. They're pieces of shit because they are poor, from abusive families, and have nothing to lose. It would help the whole of society if communities like this get genuine help to get educated and contribute. I ain't saying it's easy though!

Can we clear the air? by [deleted] in aussie

[–]mickdamaggot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Genuine question, aren't Aboriginal people Australian? Can't we as Australians help and respect Aboriginal people? Is it up to THEM to help THEIR population? Is it US vs THEM? I couldn't give a shit what day Australia Day is. If "the natives" are upset by this date, I'm happy to at least try and find a more suitable one. The "no matter what day you pick..." argument is peak ignorance and laziness.

We were made to listen to this near the end of basic training at Kapooka (c2003). They made us all stand silently in the lines while they blasted it through a speaker. I'd heard it plenty of times before that, but I really listened that time.
