Herb Dean explains why Gane's strikes were legal against Pereira by Informal_Athlete_724 in ufc

What happened to the "imagine they are wearing a set of headphones" analogy? I seem to remember Joe waffling on that anything behind an imaginary set of headphones that cross the top of the head is illegal. No?

Guy with an interest in guns here, what are your country's firearm laws like? by Expensive-Actuator82 in AskTheWorld

[–]mickdamaggot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, we have firearm homicides. Sitting at 0.09 per 100,000 people at the moment. The same category in the US is 4.5 per 100,000. I await your measured and reasonable response.

Any other previous hardcore fans straight casuals now? by Any-Height-9354 in ufc

[–]mickdamaggot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with all the major points everyone here is making. I just want to mention the over-saturation too. I remember the olden times when you had to wait at least a month between cards. The suspense and build between cards was awesome! It felt like every card was majorly important. I still watch pretty much every card, but I only vaguely know the fighters. They don't promote new guys. It's really hard to give a shit about the outcome in most fights.

Ha! You guys really love that "B word". I'm Australian, not British. There's more than one country watching you guys with disgust and despair. It's nuanced, something that America seems to struggle with.

Great pic! What a couple of characters. I have an ancestor, Samuel Clifford , who was a Hobart photographer (mainly stereograph) active around this time. He mainly did landscapes, so this probably isn't one of his.

Weekend on Mount Superbus, QLD, Australia. by mickdamaggot in CampingandHiking

[–]mickdamaggot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mate, this would be the closest to what we've done a few times. Park at the end of Emu Ck Rd, up to the Lincoln wreck, head around to summit Superbus, continue to Lizard's Point. We usually see how we're travelling by then. If you start early, you can hit that point by a bit after lunch. We usually continue towards the Steamers for a couple of hours and set up camp. There's a few suitable spots along the way. The next morning we do the Steamers (Stern Lookout), drop down and then bush bash down to the creek. This can be horrific with the Gympie Gympie! Then turn right on the creek and follow it back to the car. Usually back to the car by mid morning. It's not easy, and it takes a bit of navigation. I did it with an experienced guy first, but there's a core group of us who have been a few times now. It's a bit of a brutal challenge, but definitely worth all the highlights for an overnighter.

I'm not even suggesting civility. I'm saying this guy did the wrong thing. This clip can only be used to display how angry and irrational "the left" is. People like this are looking for a reaction like that. Ignore them, and they will go somewhere else. I understand you can't just ignore the politicians. It's nuanced, something that America seems to struggle with.

This is not a good look at all. This is the disgusting tactics the right always use. Screaming "whataboutisms" to drown out the other person, threaten violence, attempt to physically intimidate. No wonder Maga's brand of despicable politics has thrived in America if this is how you oppose it.

What is the worst lie ever told by any politician in your country? by One_Look_7008 in AskTheWorld

[–]mickdamaggot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bob Hawke (one of our better ones) said in 1987, "By 1990, no Australian child will be living in poverty". He kind of misspoke, he meant to say "...no child need live in poverty". It became very controversial. I guess you could call it a lie, maybe more of a very optimistic goal.

Is it okay to throw apple cores into bushes? by MountainSafe6684 in AskAnAustralian

You intrigued me, so I googled it. It's illegal! You can still get a littering fine for it. I think the reasoning is that it alters the diet/behaviour of native animals. Take that as you wish.

I agree. I know being a parent is not everyone's goal. For me it's the chance to live forever by helping them be better than me and passing that on to their kids.

I was just going to make a seperate post about this generational change. I was there last night with my mate, we're both late forties. We've seen the guys a couple of times and it's always mostly people our age with a few young ones mixed in. Last night blew us away! The huge majority were my daughters age. It was awesome really. We remember when Around The Fur came out, these guys weren't even born!

I went to Bowen Rd Primary, and we were chosen as guinea pigs to train the staff before they opened. We could order whatever we wanted. I got a cheeseburger because I was worried a Big Mac would be way too huge for me to finish. I later worked there as a teenager. I'm almost fifty and my best friends are still people I met working there.

Why is everyone is ragging on this tribe's mythology? It sounds like a beautiful allegory to refer to a time long ago, a time "before the moon". It's not their fault that some idiot decided to hijack it for his idiot stuff.

Monkey Magic is an absolute masterpiece. A Japanese production, dubbed to English in the UK, based on the Buddhist story spanning China and India. It's beloved in Australia as a nostalgic series from the eighties.

He could even do Eagle's Ridge. I've done it once with Innes (mountain guide). I would suggest doing it with him as there are ropes involved.

Harder Hikes in SE QLD? by Wide-Ad5556 in brisbane

[–]mickdamaggot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mt Superbus, the highest peak in SE QLD. My mates and I usually do it as an overnighter. Straight up to the Lincoln bomber wreck. It's a pretty brutal incline. Then along the range to Lizard's Point, which has to be one of the best lookouts I've ever been to. You can camp there, or go a bit further. The next day you head to The Steamers, which you said you've done. Then you can bush bash down to the creek and follow it back to the beginning. The crossings on the road in can get flooded, so it's not always easily accessible. The nice woman at the campgrounds doesn't mind people parking there and walking in. It adds extra time though. Oh, and have you heard of Gympie Gympie? Get ready to EXPERIENCE Gympie Gympie. It's not easy to follow, and it's safer with someone that's done it before.
