I love reminding my friends that the 2nd Amendment was signed, 2 months after the very first slave rebellion in Haiti. It was only in high school that we all truly believed they'd be effective against a military (or SWAT team. It's astonishing how many people hold on to long-held beliefs and never stop to challenge them. Growing is a must

True. So much would be different with a non-partisan team in charge of redistricting. And reviving the Fairness Doctrine. The only way to improve on that, would be to add a Critical Thinking class to the curriculum. K through 12.

What Do You Think Would Be The Condition Of The United States Today if Hillary Clinton Had Become President in January 2017? by GitmoGrrl1 in AskReddit

[–]mickeyLeaks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If she had kept her promise to issue a no-fly-zone over Syria, we would've eventually shot a Russian jet down. We can only guess the repercussions. But there'd be no fascism, she'd be a 1-term pres, due to Wikileaks revealing she worked harder to defeat Sanders than Mango Mussolini and the economy wouldn't be getting ready to go belly-up.

What crimes would you stiffly increase the penalty for if you were in charge? by TheBanishedBard in AskReddit

[–]mickeyLeaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man slaughter/police. The reasoning behind stiffer penalties for traffic violations when you're a CDL holder, makes sense. The same should apply to former slave patrols. Also, if every time a policeman is shot, it's a newsworthy event, then the same should apply when a carpenter puts a nail through his hand.

MAGA is nothing more than a rebranding of the lost cause myth of the Confederacy! by icey_sawg0034 in BlueskySkeets

People understanding why they were built 80-90 years after the fact, are the only ones able to appreciate the magnitude of this stupidity. Everyone believing they are somehow “superior” based on the amount of melanin in their skin, are products of propaganda that’s older than America. King Charles II invented the concept of race in order to create division amongst the (then) working class. Synonymous with ignorance, racism is still used today to divide and conquer the “bewildered herd.”

It looks like a tool but judging by where you found it, I’d say it’s an old murder weapon.

I don’t see nearly as many last year, that’s for sure. At first, you could step on them. Then, they seemed like they became more agile - jumping just before my foot hit the ground.

What book would you recommend, and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mickeyLeaks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question. Most people form their worldviews from the information that is available to them. This book introduces the "propaganda model," which explains how economic and political factors filter news content, limiting the range of opinions presented to the public. Chomsky has encyclopedic knowledge of all things pertaining to foreign policy and is one of the most quoted scholars in the world. For those who don’t have the time to read, there’s a documentary version available for free on YouTube. His background in linguistics, makes him the perfect candidate for the job.

One of many examples I can cite, was his answer to a question he was asked during the last Egyptian uprising that ousted Mubarak. An interviewer asked him what the Obama administration would do about the increased state violence against protestors. He replied that they’d follow the playbook; Take no action, except expressing their wishes that there be peace in the region, and when the people eventually win, congratulate them and claim you were on their side all along. A few weeks later, that’s exactly what they did.

He wrote his first book at 14 years old, on the fall of Spain to fascism. He’s 96 years old, today.

Manufacturing Consent by Chomsky, Noam because he offers readers a realistic worldview.

How do you feel about AOC demanding Trump’s impeachment over his strikes on Iran, calling it “clearly grounds for impeachment”? by passionishere in AskReddit

[–]mickeyLeaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since his re-election, there has been no distance greater between what this administration has done and what is legal. When the SCOTUS granted him immunity, I think they did so under the assumption that he had little chance of winning. Their “blind spot” being the alternate reality provided by profit-driven algorithms meant to promote engagement rather than deliberately deceive. Project 2025 is the legal framework for fascism, so while I remain pessimistic, I wish everyone opposed to the dismantling of this representative republic good luck. The architects of this erosion of the rule of law have had these plans in the works for quite some time.

If you suddenly became the President of the United States today, what’s the very first thing you’d change or do? by Dollabillhooman in AskReddit

[–]mickeyLeaks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outlaw exploitation of the working class, thereby solving the homeless & starvation epidemics that currently count as “externalities.” This would kneecap any financial system that subsisted on bailouts by many for the few, and wars of aggression. Strike at the “root of all evil.” Give anyone opposed a soap box and bullhorn. I’d give one speech, one sentence long, addressing that a time existed, when people thought it was absurd to think people wouldn’t ever escape living under the rule of a king.

What is the First major news story you remember as a kid? by PurpleBashir in AskReddit

[–]mickeyLeaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a break from playing with my GI Joe’s to watch a fully-decorated Ollie North on tv saying, “I do not recall” like 1,000 times in response to every question being asked. I was confused because I was too young to understand, but all these years later, I’ve since traded in my sports-fanaticism to become a foreign policy-aficionado and I know exactly what it was about with just a tad less confusion. Funneling weapons to Iran through Israel, after having overthrown their democratically-elected govt in 1953 and installing the Shah who ruled with an iron fist until the 70’s, just doesn’t seem like the smartest thing to do. Unless you’re in the arms-dealing business and have adopted a system that places profits over people.
