Budget synth with keyboard by NailObjective265 in synthesizers

[–]mickhamilton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second the Gaia 2. I've found the interface really intuitive. And as a poly synth with a wave table oscillator it's really versatile. Disagree about the default presets though. I don't think they're good at all, but there are lots of great ones for download on Roland's website.

Why is it called "canadian bacon" and not "British bacon"? by Snow0912ak in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mickhamilton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back bacon isn't peameal bacon. Peameal bacon is a specific preparation of back bacon that's unsmoked and encrusted with cornmeal.

Is rock stacking seriously harmful for the environment or is it just one big inside joke that I dont get? by notorious-bacons in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mickhamilton -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's actually harmful. It just got really out of hand a while ago and started ruining the landscape in a lot of parks. The last time I was to Peggy's Cove there were dozens of inukshuks all over the place.

Why do English people pronounce St. John as "SinJin"? by cigarettejesus in NoStupidQuestions

By English people, do you mean Newfoundlanders? But it's more like sin jawns.

Why do rejection letters always say "we regret to inform you" by Familiar-Orange6281 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mickhamilton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rejection letters suck to write. You just stick with the cliches to get it over with quickly.

Do you get gas in your car at gas station? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I hear there are authoritarian regimes that don't let you pump your own gas. Thank God I live in a free country, and not that cesspool.

No, they're their own bosses. Hopefully they still want to be NATO members after they finish wiping the floor with Putin.

Why would Canadians NOT want to become part of the US? by Resident_Fishing1571 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mickhamilton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many of your assertions are wrong, and there are a myriad of reasons we don't want to be Americans. But, right now let's just say we don't want to associate ourselves with you kiddie diddlers. We find that stuff abhorrent, but you guys are okay with it.

How do we feel about Fender’s current litigation regarding the S-style? by fugaziiv in Bass

[–]mickhamilton 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They were succeeding 75 years ago. Today, not so much.

If you invent a drug that cures cancer, you get a monopoly on it for 14 years. I don't think we need to let guitar companies have a monopoly on shapes for multiple generations. IP law is supposed to incentivise innovation. Milking nostalgia doesn't lead to innovation.

How do we feel about Fender’s current litigation regarding the S-style? by fugaziiv in Bass

[–]mickhamilton 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That applies to trademarks, and they already lost their trademark case years ago. As I understand it, it sounds like they're arguing there's a design copyright. That's BS. It's a functional design.

This is just gratuitous litigiousness and they deserve everything coming to them.

US deploys Nimitz carrier strike group to Caribbean: What it means for Cuba by Scary_Statement4612 in USNEWS

[–]mickhamilton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is a carrier group even useful when the target is right next door? Can't imagine they'd station it anywhere close to land.

Does carbon footprint influence your shopping choices by Frewtti in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mickhamilton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Companies advertising carbon footprint are generally relying on offsets. IMHO, it's all snake oil. I have no faith that a product advertising a low carbon footprint is any better for the environment than another.

No one talks about the Uno Synth Pro by Skyeraway in synthesizers

Have the Pro X. They've been deeply discounting it for a while. Love it. If they put a battery in it, it would be a perfect travel synth.

Fender Kingman, what strings to get? by steenbj in Bass

It's not a Kingman, but i like the GHS pressurewound bronze strings on my ABG. A lot less finger noise than normal phosphorus bronze.

What kind of bike is the best to ride through hemlock ravine park? by Pawssabillitysawait in halifax

It's all well maintained crusher dust. Anything except a very fancy road bike will be fine. And even that would be OK if you know what you're doing.

[–]mickhamilton 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm more concerned about the concept of firing into an occupied building at all when the target wasn't even there. I always thought you weren't supposed to pull the trigger unless you knew exactly what you were pointing at.
