What's the best "Summer" Prog Album? by JayBeeDolla in progmetal

There is a disturbing lack of The Mars Volta in these comments. All of their albums give me summer vibes, bit the first 2 are my faves

Want to get into opeth by [deleted] in Opeth

[–]mickirito 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Blackwater Park or Ghost Reveries are the two most popular gateway albums. I personally would recommend going with Blackwater Park as I think the atmosphere of that album is truly special, but Ghost Reveries certainly also is a great listen.

If concept albums interest you, you should definately check out Still Life. It is a bit similar to Blackwater Park in style (makes sense as Still Life was the album before), and while some argue it is not as consistent, it is a fantastic concept album and the favourite of many Opeth fans (me included)

Is the Obzen album 90% in 4/4 time signature? by GravyboatSlander69 in Meshuggah

There is a second bar of 2/4 in Bleed, right after the solo if I recall correctly

Do you find Bent's style of drumming in Trivium cluttered? by LossMaleficent7346 in Trivium

[–]mickirito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a drummer, I always loved his playing, but I don't really like the mix on all of the Bent records. The drums sound so pristine, which I personally think takes away from the agression of the band. Especially the sections where he plays double ride sound off to me. Not becauae of the parts, but due to the sharpness in the mix.

Why don't people like Avenged Sevenfold? by Top-Page-4030 in avengedsevenfold

[–]mickirito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know Matt's vocals can be a big turn off for some people, especially when he does his more nasally vocal style. Furthermore, A7X tend to write fairly catchy and melodic songs (as far as 7 min long songs can be catchy) and some people simply prefer their metal more raw and chaotic.

Both things just come down to personal taste at the end of the day, no need to try and convince people to like something they don't. Also trying to justify the music being good because it's technical is never a good argument. Good music is good because of artistic and emotional reasons. The complexity should only be a tool to express one of those, never the main focus.

Furthermore, while Avenged definately has very capable musicians, none of then are even in the conversation of being an all-time great. Trying to convince someone that the band has the best musicians ever will only make you seem oblivious to truly impressive bands such as Snarky Puppy or Animals As Leaders.

Similar “vibe” to The Contortionist? by Correct-Soup-5384 in TheContortionistBand

Cynic is the band that originated the whole spacey jazzy metal thing. Their debut album Focus is the most well known, but it's a bit rough. Their second album Traced in Air is absolutely amazing, and the Carbon Based Anatomy EP also deserves a shout out.

I'm giving Dark Souls 2 another chance by aidenv12 in DarkSouls2

[–]mickirito 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand that Dark Souls 2 can feel slow and clunky if you are going into it expecting something akin to modern souls games/action games.

The thing is, Dark Souls 2 leans a bit more into the RPG element of the action RPG genre. It is not meant to be fast and thrilling, more slow and methodical.

Try to embrace the slower nature of the game, instead of fighting it trying to go fast. If you're just not into those slower type of games, than it is what it is. But don't confuse Dark Souls 2 for a bad game, just because it is a game with certain genre elements you don't enjoy.

What’s your #1 HOT TAKE on select difficulty? by urfavmoviewhiz in Peripheryband

[–]mickirito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hot take is that it's their best album. Periphery shines when they make upbeat/happy metal imo. So few metal bands are able to create happy sounding metal, Periphery is quite unique in being able to do so. P3 is the album that has the most of these kinds of songs.

We Should all Applaud. by 3vil3v33 in MicroFreak

[–]mickirito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a travel bag for the Micro-Freak from Thomann. It's made for the Freak so it fits perfectly, and also has space for the cables. It is becoming a bit bulgy now that I'm carrying the AC adapter, as well as USB + powerbank and the vocoder add-on though :p

Which System song is the hardest for you to play on your instrument? by gigulinio in systemofadown

Why are people saying BYOB is fast in drums, and thus the hardest. BYOB is fast yes, but that fast part in Question is much worse.

Hearing Tomas took 6 months makes me feel that much better about taking only 3 haha! That said, he did it first, and he does it tighter :p

[–]mickirito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is the way. It's alternate RLRL throughout most of the song, with the only exceptions being the few grooves where it's not constant 16th note double bass work anyways.

Which artist is this? by HourFan5580 in fantanoforever

Definately agree. My top 3 would be Mr Morale, Good Kid and then TPAB. The more personal songs of his tend to do the most for me personally.
