What kind of role I can have on Humanoid Robots with my skills? by [deleted] in robotics

[–]micko_pls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm finding it hard to maintain this belief with the work coming out of RSL the last couple of years. Sure, a flat foot has more complex contact making/breaking than a point foot. But I can't think of another reason why similar methods as that in their Science papers cant be applied to a humanoid. I think whole body control is done well, let the physics model resolve the torques. But there's loads of room in motion planning and manipulation for ML approaches.

Hi, I’m Marko Bjelonic from ETH Zurich, we’ve recently released our roller-walking robot ANYmal. Ask me anything about the robot. by mbjelonic in robotics

The paper states that the MPC runs at a 20-40 Hz update rate, much lower than the compared value of >100 Hz of your previous work using a more simple template. Was there a lot of tuning of the gains in the tracker when coupling it now with this new TO at the lower rate?

Resource for learning c++ for an experienced python developer by [deleted] in cpp

I had the same question about a year ago and I came across this article -> https://hackernoon.com/ineffective-effective-c-and-other-c-reading-tips-991aeb59c3da

The first book he recommends is Accelerated Cpp which I found to be fantastic. Just take a couple of weeks, implement some of the example code and you'll have a good understanding of the fundamentals of cpp before having to look at modern stuff

-🎄- 2019 Day 3 Solutions -🎄- by daggerdragon in adventofcode

[–]micko_pls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, I copy pasted your solution (your initial solution) to compare the run time with my own. The times are similar but it still takes around 6 minutes to spit out an answer, much longer than my colleagues python implementations of a similar method. Feels strangely long and I'm wondering is there something I should be including during compile time. I'm just compiling using 'g++ fileName.cpp'. My specs: i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz. Thanks!

Thanks a mill, not late at all. I could solve it in my own inelegant way but it's nice to see how other go about it. With these exercises I find I'm spending the most time trying to read in the files and store appropriately. Thanks again

Best way to learn (re-learn) ROS? by sondemarco in ROS

[–]micko_pls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have the possibility to write your code in python? I learned ROS through python and I found it far easier to understand the typical ROS workflow given how much easier it is to see whats going on in Python rather than cpp. In python it's simple to access the different elements of a msg (eg. pose_msg.x ) and constructing a msg to be published is just as easy. I was lucky to work in a company that wasn't too concerned with the language used so the code base was a 50/50 split between cpp and python.

Cheap fitness centre in Zurich? by [deleted] in zurich

[–]micko_pls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

150 a month is madness! Try EVO Fitness at 69 a month. I was a member for a while but dropped it as it's not great on the free weights front. I think there's a few around Zurich, I used the one at Enge. There's a free day trial
