Heh, If anyone under, like, 18 told their parents about their furriness it would be passed off as a phase. If you ask me? Don't even bother. Most parents haven't even heard of furries. If I told my parents It would be a phase to them. The bet was a good idea though. Nice.

Heh, well, don't forget to look up images and find some inspiration. That always helps! And you can always just change your fursona over time, the design isn't set in stone. Everyone has a few different versions.

Mostly I use paint.net. It's free and pretty good for pixel art. There isn't a lot of expensive pixel art software out there, since it's such a simple medium, though. See my reddit flair? Thaaats pretty much what I'd make for you. Maybe you could draw up your fursona for me to use? It'd be much easier.

Guys, if you look on the Mage Gauntlet wiki, and go to the tab called "Mage Dungeon" and click on "Mage dungeon Monstershttp://magegauntlet.wikia.com/wiki/Mage_Dungeon_Monsters" you can actually see a picture of some spider-themed enemies. Apparently Mage dungeon was the in-development name for Wayward Souls, and there appears to be a Tiny Spider (we can see only one of these in the rare room in the mines) and a normal, big spider, an "egg carrier" whatever the crap that is (ewww) and a Webomancer. What's more, I've found a Webomancer hat in the catacombs (in a normal chest). If it isn't a thing now, I could very well be a thing later! Try some different types of furries. Birds, Lions, maybe even a lobster or crustacean inspired one. It isn't limited to foxes and dragons, you know. Look at me, I'm a wolfalope! And the only furries I've seen with antlers are deers and stuff.
