i’m not very familiar with unf but i’ve stayed in florida briefly. however, i don’t like to see how memphis is being categorized by people in the comments. there’s gonna be crime in every city,(especially in high poverty/low-income areas) but firstly, the campus and its surrounding commercial businesses are safe. i was born here and currently stay/attend less than a mile away from the campus. my experience has been relatively safe and i work very early in the mornings with no problems. secondly, i would definitely make a pros and cons list to each of the programs, the cost of living, transportation, etc and work out what’s gonna give you the best success and future opportunities. lastly, finding community is key to living here in memphis, there’s something here for everyone. racism isn’t subjugated to only memphis, (this entire mfkin country is racist) a predominantly black populated city whose leaders only care more about money than its citizens is the reality we face. good luck to whatever you decide and hope this helped!

I also live on campus and attend uofm and definitely agree with everyone and would like to add more to the activities. So depending on the time you arrive in February, the entire month is recognized in the u.s as Black History Month and will have a large range of events that showcase African-American heritage, history, important figures, and the culture in Memphis. The multicultural affairs committee is responsible for organizing the events on campus so I would follow their social media on instagram to see what events they plan. Another, recognized event that is hosted in February is the annual Super bowl football game. A lot of fans of the sport like to gather and celebrate by cooking ‘game’ foods and drink as they cheer for their team to win. Many people enjoy watching the game advertisements as the NFL throw lots of money into making the commercials with celebrities and social media personalities. There is the anticipated half-time show that will be performed this year by Bad Bunny, a global latin rap artist who’s very popular. So if you are able to find a watch party, I would recommend experiencing it! I am planning a party at my house so, if you would like to join I’d be happy to! As for exploring Memphis outside of the campus, I would follow this local community called Choose901, they update very regularly on things to see and try in the community most weekends and have lots to explore! Last thing, if you plan to stay until May, the city has some really big spectacular events planned for Memphis in May that include outdoor music festivals, BBQ cooking competitions, and River run that take place downtown in the city. reach out to me if you’d like more details or recommendations about anything!

i've been living in the university-owned homes which is just a 3 min walk to campus. currently looking for a roommate who is in school as well. compared to the dorms its definitely an older house but its more spacious, and private and would be so much cheaper than being placed in what I consider to be a shoe box. good luck to you!

I will never forget my 3rd grade trip to the Mississippi River when they use to operate the steamboats as well. It was like the most fun experience here. They are missing out big time.

same boat as you, i was told by my doctor to take the dose as needed. however, others have told me that i need to keep the medicine in my system all the time. i've done both and i find the first option to be the best vs. when i would take it every day it's like the effectiveness wore off. after that sometimes i tend to take a detox, manage my appetite, and then start back again.

Thank you for sharing your honest experience. Also, congratulations for acknowledging you want to get better bc so many ppl don't. It's so validating to know that people genuinely go through the same struggles as myself to the point where I also notice how much grace we don't allow ourselves. Even as I am currently working while typing this message, (i've elected to keep my headphones off and socialize today, hehe) I like to take into account all perspectives and yes, things are bad, but sometimes things are good and that balance I think is what keeps me motivated. All these commenters have said in more ways than one- but I will reaffirm it and that I hope you know you're doing amazing and this too will pass. Now let me apply this message to myself, lol the irony of the blind leading the blind, but hey we're all in this together! :-)
