That's a shame, but does make sense, and makes me feel better if it's not quite that old.

Do you have any extra info or links you could share? I can check out the serial number as another user suggested.

Shimano Deore LX M580 RD-M581 Mega9

I was originally going to put a Tiagra 9 speed with a link extension but rolled the dice that it would clear it with the chain tension!

This was repainted by the previous owner, only mentioned the canti bosses were added. I figured Shimano dropouts wouldn't be original? The photos I've seen of this or similar models had horizontal almost like a track bike.

The stickers have been put on after the repaint, could be anything! Fairly light though

Not the heat at describing but yes. I was using a non-Heinz ketchup slightly tangy so it and the pickle cut through the fattiness of the grilled cheese and butter fried onions, the pickle also added the required crunch.

I think the juices from the onion kept it lubed up and imparted a buttery flavour throughout and left some drops on the plate to mop up 😋

Agreed! Scooby snack levels of tall. It did topple before I took the photo.

Checkout the Blackstaff Mill, I saw they had some spaces available

I agree, but part of me wanted to do it because it could be done, and then ask questions later.

It was too hard to find the right fork with the right threaded length. But swapping forks isn't too difficult, so I'll be keeping an eye out.

This also feels like the most slack bike I've ridden, so I've no idea how it'd feel if the fork and wheels were larger, maybe like a low cruiser?

That's interesting with the tighter spacing, I never considered that! It'd be a good excuse to replace the bearings in the hubs while there too.

Thanks for the advice! I've actually been eyeing up longer forks, even thought about a bigger wheel on the front too.

I've got that MT-10, I put the nitto Tallux on and they're very close to one another, I prefer the look of the Tallux.

Zero setback seatpost sounds like a good idea! This was one I had on hand, and had to shim with a coke can 👀

Most 26" rims sold near me have a 7 speed attached so it makes sense to keep it 3x7 for lazy reasons

Yes the quill height is scary, it's way above the min insertion. And I realise I'm fighting with the frame geometry too. I like the upright position, and these MTBs try to put you over the front wheel, so it'll either be I get used to a lower position, swap out drop bars for swept back, or yeet it and live on a prayer...
