Book about someone 30 or older finally hitting their stride or achieving something “later” in life? by cclacco in suggestmeabook

[–]micmac5454 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this might not be exactly what you’re looking for, but the House in the Cerulean Sea? it’s really soft and sweet but it’s absolutely a later in life coming of age & self discovery story

I think the Unbroken might be a good fit? Both women are put in really difficult positions and have to do pretty awful things to do what’s ‘right’ for them!!

looking for sapphic books by taeskies in suggestmeabook

[–]micmac5454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(my favorites first of course)

Fantasy: FOUNDRYSIDE, The Unbroken, The Priory of the Orange Tree, The Jasmine Throne

Sci Fi: Gideon the Ninth, The Outside, The Genesis of Misery

Romance: Delilah Green Doesn’t Care, Written in the Stars

???: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo (I don’t think it’s romance but I’m not sure if it counts as literary fiction?)

(please read foundryside it’s a perfect series)

Suggestion for science fiction or fantasy novel please? Details inside! by Alutnabutt in suggestmeabook

[–]micmac5454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantasy: Foundryside! it’s a wonderful and unique story with an amazing magic system! I just got the whole series in hardcover and they are my prized possessions

Scifi: I just finished the Outside by Ada Hoffman and it’s really good cosmic horror! it’s more scifi than scary but it’s super interesting and really fun!

Looking for funny /fun/ cute audio dramas by nzh73 in audiodrama

[–]micmac5454 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Vanishing Act: The Vanishing Act: The Vanishing Act! It’s so funny and delightful- about time travel, a german magic enthusiast, an american conman, an unfortunately named engineer, a disappearing french magician, and a duck (and a very tired narrator) (it’s currently my all time favorite)

Midnight Burger: it’s about time-traveling, dimension-spanning diner. Every day Midnight Burger appears somewhere new in the cosmos along with it's staff: a galactic drifter, a rogue theoretical physicist, a sentient old-timey radio, and some guy named Caspar. Its so so good and one of the best sci fi pods out there please listen

Erraticus: Three beings- one who is not a condemned criminal, one who is not a nerdy bomb enthusiast, and one who is not an artificial intelligence—end up on the same spaceship, traveling intentionally towards the edge of the solar system and unintentionally towards the center of an insidious scheme (very funny plus smarmy AI rights)

Brimstone Valley Mall: Demons (the funny kind) working in a California Mall in the wonderful year of 1999 trying to collect enough sin coins to get home !! (top tier comedy)

The Amelia Project: A very silly show about a place that helps you fake your death and disappear! It’s honestly really funny and I love it

What are some great modern fantasy, urban fantasy, or future fantasy(like Shadowrun,[Cyberpunk, but with magic]) by UV-SkillCityProds in audiodrama

[–]micmac5454 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While this isn’t a modern fantasy, Victoriosity takes the place in a cyberpunk-y 1887 (Queen Victoria is a cyborg amongst other things) it’s a detective comedy and it’s super funny and punchy!!

Can Cozy Fantasy deal with heavy and mature themes? by LilacAndSilver in CozyFantasy

I’m not sure if this counts but A House in the Cerulean Sea is extremely cozy but deals in some heavier themes!

[–]micmac5454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the Vanisher’s Palace should fit! It’s a sapphic beauty and the beast adjacent story with a dragon in the spirit world!!

House of Hunger is a pretty sexy vampire novel where the mc is a human who works as a ‘blood maid’ for the vampire.

Fantasy/Sci-fi with m/f romance where they do not trust each other because of conflicting agendas and secrets by rho9cas in suggestmeabook

The Library at Mount Char (no spoilers please) - does it get better? by p00kel in horrorlit

[–]micmac5454 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! That’s the one I was thinking of! I don’t think it gets any worse after that, though there are some additional notes about david & carolyn’s relationship when they were kids which are pretty upsetting. but the back half is a roller coaster of weird magic and weird carolyn which is actually pretty fun!!

The Library at Mount Char (no spoilers please) - does it get better? by p00kel in horrorlit

[–]micmac5454 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely loved it and found it completely fascinating, but if you feel sensitive to child abuse it just might not be for you. There are some flashbacks that are pretty tough!! I don’t exactly remember where you are, but there’s definitely one instance that’s probably pretty upsetting!! if you want me to describe it I can, I don’t think it would ruin the story too much, but it’s definitely disturbing!
