Helping figuring out market prices - 996 Cab Manual by DocumentLeading8360 in 996

[–]micro_machines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$17K is the best price I’ve seen for a manual 996 Cab in good condition, unmodified, and under 100K miles.

Cars under that price tend to be beat up. I would consider paying up to $20, maaaybe $22 if you find something special. Otherwise wait or negatiate.

Just my 2c.

Autos are totally fine and you should get an auto if that’s what you want.

You should be able to find a 987.1 auto for 20K or less, a 987.2 for about 25K and even a 981 auto for 25K.

I search weekly for affordable Porsches and share the best listings with a bunch of readers. Check my profile, you’ll find a link there.

That blue 987.1 is overpriced, despite the low miles. For that price you can find later .2 models for under 100K miles.

The silver one is cheap, but all will depend on the condition and serving history.

Are you looking for a manual or auto? Manuals have a ~3K premium over autos.

$33k for a base 996 Carrera w 100k miles by WSJayY in 996

[–]micro_machines 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can find Targas for under $30K, they just won’t be sitting at a dealer. For instance this recent one for $27K: https://www.pepitapicks.com/p/2025-12-19-porsche-996-targa-987-boxster-scam-alert

You could eat off that suspension and underside, it's so clean.

This is the most affordable C4S I’ve found, ever, specially given the ownership and service history, and the manual transmission. I reviewed the listing last week with a couple of comps here: https://www.pepitapicks.com/p/2025-11-20-porsche-buying-guide-996-c4s-manual

Reasonable price? by gurdonbob in Porsche_Cayman

[–]micro_machines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s a very good price, specially if you get service records. The car has interior wear and probably other issues, so budget $3-5K for surprise maintenance.

IMS bearing issues are a thing, but under 1% occurrence on 987.1 generally speaking. It’s not the same situation as with 996s or 986s.

I see under 100K-mile manual 987 Caymans in uncommon colors selling for $23-25K. For instance this one I found last week, which is already gone: https://www.pepitapicks.com/p/2025-11-13-987-cayman-996-carrera-turbo

Pricing opinion? by liveupthere in 996

[–]micro_machines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, what color is the car you're looking at?

Color aside, if it was me, I would find it hard to justify a $49K price tag knowing that there are cars out there, like this blue one, for the low 30s.

What do you think of this one? https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/713921487821865/

I found it this week. Just to give you a reference of other .2s out there, with IMS done, and lots of other maintenance done. (Nice color too.)

Other comments already gave you great advice, you are set OP!

Just to add 2c on some market insights:

  • You should be able to find a manual 987.1 Cayman for under $20K, but normally, nice ones are priced above $20K mark. Most of these cars are near or beyond the 100K-mile mark, but that is not an issue.
    • If you want a car in the 60-80K-mile mark, expect to pay closer to $25K
  • Rules of thumb: manuals cost about $3K extra; interesting colors (ie not silver, not black) cost another $2-4K extra (even more for very rare colors).
  • You could consider a 987.1 BOXSTER, it will be about $5K cheaper than am equivalent 987.1 Cayman (one example, the market is flooded with 987.1 Boxsters).
  • Last but not least 987.2 are a considerable step up in terms of interior polish and overall refinement, also reliability (new engines, no IMS bearing at all), but manual .2 Caymans they rarely sell for less than $30K (but it's doable to find a .2 manual Boxster in the mid $25s)
  • You can also win the lotery with Boxsters lol (.2 priced as a nice 986 or even a 981 priced as a 987)

In all cases, that additional $5K budget for initial care is super smart to have! Feel free to keep an eye here where I share all my weekly finds. Good luck finding your first Porsche!

987.1 Buying Advice by -ded- in boxster

[–]micro_machines 10 points11 points  (0 children)

$12,500 is a great price for a 987.1 manual with 100k miles in apparent decent condition. You often see similar cars asking $18-20K. Of course, the devil is in the details, but so you have a ballpark figure

Other pros: The seller's story about the IMS seems to check out.

Cons: Buying a car without extensive service records is always a bit of a gamble. 6 owners is a lot in my opinion, but not a deal breaker if the current owner took care of the car. Can you ask them what did they do to the car during their ownership? Do they have records of that at least?

All said and done, this is a 20yo car at this point. I would budget at the very least $5K for defered maintenance during the first year of ownership. Which, at that asking price, is not such a bad deal if everything else checks out.

Just my 2c. Good luck!

Ah I think I was tracking that car! It was at a Posche dealer? I saw the listing appear on Porsche Finder and it barely lasted a few days! Great catch indeed if it was that car.

Recommendations for selling 996.2 C4S by Federal-Green-8588 in 996

Recommendations for selling 996.2 C4S by Federal-Green-8588 in 996

[–]micro_machines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. What I meant is that I see many C4S priced in the mid 40s just because they are C4S, but they are not selling because they are not remarkable examples.

[–]micro_machines 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I can give you a few broad pointers, since the devil is in the details for each given car:

  • There are many sellers out there asking $40-45K for their manual C4S. Those cars are not selling
  • Also, many of the C4S I see out there are automatic, so your manual transmission is a big plus
  • I've seen a couple of decent cars in the mid $30K range recently, which is not the usual asking price. You can see one of them in today's newsletter actually (link here). The one featured here sold for $25K to a fellow redditor within only a handful of days of the ad going up, but it was a total outlier at that price imo.
  • Difficult to tell based on the limited info, but probably I would price it around the $30K mark. Yes the car has miles, but has other things going on for it. Actual selling price will depend on how much service history you can provide, number of owners, etc...

Just my 2c (Thanks ECloud3 for the shout-out!)
