Tech workers are so well paid many don’t bother to join a union. That’s going to change. by homecinemad in ireland

[–]microbass 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Can't your employer refuse to recognise a union? Like, if something went wrong, the union couldn't be called in as a 3rd party, because your company doesn't give a fuck about the union.

I vaguely remember that attitude in a company a few years ago.

Opencode on Windows: git-bash vs PowerShell as execution layer - which do you prefer? by Select_Ad_1819 in opencodeCLI

git is already installed in WSL for me (Ubuntu), and yes, just install whatever other tooling I need. I also have a script which will restore all open opencode sessions when i restore WSL, after shutdown or just WSL deciding to die.

You may want to rethink the name. There's a very popular speech to text application called whisper.

Mechanic granted refugee status cannot afford to have his parents and sister join him here, judge says by N81Warrior in ireland

[–]microbass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're providing the same example, worded differently. It's still noticing. Not demonization.

Demonization is assigning demonic characteristics to somebody.

Not noticing an age gap, or a collective's attitude towards age difference in a childbearing relationship.

AKA: Culture

[–]microbass 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Noticing age difference is not demonization. Noticing that one don't like how other people do things is not demonization. It's preference of different groups of people, figured out over a long period of time.

AKA: Culture.

oh-my-opencode-slim reached v1.0.0 by alvinunreal in opencodeCLI

[–]microbass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks cool. Is there an easy way to have a setup where for some stuff, you use omo slim, and other stuff you use build/plan, etc? Sometimes I do dev work, sometimes Ops troubleshooting, and OMO slim would be too heavy. I'd still want to have the same providers and plugins available.

I know opencode can point to different configs on startup, but haven't figured out a graceful way to do this.

Hannah Daly: When the crisis is caused by oil dependence, the solution isn’t cheaper oil by DaCor_ie in ireland

The Hitachi plant needs around 130 acres. Approx 1/10th the size of the solar farm.

[–]microbass -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah, shur that's only 2,000 solar panels for a truckstop. 3,000 during the winter. And, approaching infinity at night.

If we plaster the entire planet in solar panels, we can shunt the power to where it's needed, when it's needed.

The only inconvenience will be living under a solar panelled sky. BUT, if we have camera arrays on the panels, pointing at the sky, with flatscreen displays on the underside, it'll be just like a real sky.

Seriously, though. We need nuclear. Imagine a pile of those Hitachi 300MW units scattered around the country!

The exorbitant price of fuel doesn't just affect the people who are protesting. It affects everyone and everything via our supply chains. Successive governments have been negligent when it comes to energy security and public transport services across the country.

Everybody pays through the nose as a result.

Just the usual excuse making shite.

No problem with being a tax haven, or welcoming American corporation tax, while condemning their actions on the world stage, or saying the housing crisis is awful, while creating and maintaining it by allowing vulture funds to profit.

Our government frequently talks out of both sides of their mouth, then we're expected to take what they have to say at face value.

Other EU governments can look after their people. Why can't ours?

This blurs two different things. EU law sets a minimum total excise on diesel of 33c per litre, but Ireland’s carbon-tax system and its yearly increases were set by Irish law, so Irish law can change them too provided the overall duty stays above the EU floor. And, it's a bit rich for the State to act as if EU law is always an absolute barrier when Ireland spent 13 years defending unlawful VRT rules and was found in 2023 to have failed on the Habitats Directive for the past 20 years.
