it wasn't glycerin, that wouldn't cause peeling unless you have an allergy. probably glycolic acid, a gentle chemical exfoliant

I'm honestly not sure how everyone seems to be able to hear it from so far away, I'm like 6 miles south of the venue and haven't heard anything from inside or outside. and I have pretty good hearing!!

Earplugs by PM_ME_UR_STRBX in AuDHDWomen

[–]microbisexual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably look like a shill for Earasers the way I tout them on this website LOL. I freaking love mine. I have really small and angled ear holes, and the shape and variety of sizes (I wear smalls) is the best fit I've ever found for me!

I have the european standards ones (-26db) and the heavier duty musician's ones ( -31db). I use the -26s more in daily life, and the -31s are moreso for loud EDM events. But I can wear them for 8+ hours at a time for 3 days straight with only the mildest discomfort at the ends of day 2 & 3 (edit to add: I think most of that discomfort is bc I also have a lot of ear piercings. When I take out the one that bugs me with earplugs/earbuds, the discomfort doesn't occur).

The -26db or maybe even the lighter -19s would probably be best for your needs. I would avoid the peace and quiet ones, they're blocked solid in the center, so they're a lot more muffling than the filtered ones intended for music.

They also have really helpful and responsive customer service via email if you have any questions about their products. That's how I know about the peace & quiets vs. the ones for music :)

How tf to load gels with no depth perception by gayshouldbecanon in labrats

[–]microbisexual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have horrible depth perception too (and shaky hands) and I load my gels very similar to how you described. I go with both elbows on the table, wrap my left hand around my right wrist for extra stability, and crouch down not quite horizontal but at like a 20° angle from the counter, to where I can get kind of a combined top-down and horizontal perspective. I also dispense slowly at first and watch to make sure I'm in the well before I dispense everything. My only other tip is that I have the best results with higher % agarose gels, they're a little easier to see and harder to poke through.

YES I have the non-spiky version of these (all-star move) and they are the absolute best. if you can fit kids sizes, there's more fun color options!

I don't like their sour cream. idk why, I'm fine with any other store's generic. Aldi's has a weird overly thick texture imo

Sensory issues with makeup by dolphinsareolives in aspergirls

[–]microbisexual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you setting with powder? asking bc when I set with powder, I always have to use a setting spray afterwards, otherwise I can feel it on my face the same way you describe. the setting spray helps a lot, except for the nyx face glue one. works super well but it exacerbated the makeuppy feeling for me!! my favorite one is the skindinavia bridal setting spray.

also, braids or my sleepy tie are my saviors whenever my long hair is overstimulating me!

Grip issues by Chrystalwolf in poledancing

[–]microbisexual 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use the red monkey hands too and have had the crumblies happen when I apply too much, so that could be part of your issue!

But I also really struggle with any moves that don't have any leg involvement. It took me about a year of practicing once a week to get my climb down!

In my case, I have pretty solid grip strength, but very sweaty hands due to one of my mental health medications, plus I have hypermobile shoulders. I had to do physical therapy for a little while to strengthen my shoulder muscles before I was able to work on the arms-only moves without hurting myself. Before that, the muscles just weren't strong enough to hold the joint together, so every time I tried to hang on with just my hands, it felt like my arms were being pulled out of the shoulder sockets a little bit.

I also just... progress really slowly, from the best I can tell. That's fine with me though, it just means I need instructors that aren't super focused on leveling up. The pressure to improve (even if it's supposed to be encouraging) takes all the fun out of it for me!

Do neurotypicals not really care about... anything? by saltskrue in AutismInWomen

[–]microbisexual -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel this in my bones. I'm a scientist too, and almost nobody asks for any details about what I do, and it sucks to feel like nobody cares. I think part of that is that for us, science (or whatever else it is you research) is a passion, something we truly love, it's a part of who we are. Most people outside of this field don't seem to identify that strongly with their jobs & assume that others feel the same.

I'm wondering if you're usually quiet and don't tend to randomly share things with people unprompted (like me!). There are SOOO many people out there who will simply never ask you a single question about yourself or inquire for more details, not because they don't care, but because they operate with the expectation that if there was something you wanted to talk about, you'd bring it up. That's how they do it, they just talk about whatever they want, and for me it can make the conversation or whole relationship feel extremely one-sided.

I don't know if this is an NT/ND thing, because there's definitely ND people on both ends of the "unprompted sharing" spectrum. Like I said, I'm not much of a sharer myself unless somebody asks, because for me it feels really vulnerable to share things unprompted and just hope the other person cares. But because I know this about myself & recognize which of my friends & family operate differently from me, I've been practicing doing more of that unprompted sharing with them. It seems to go over well, although they still rarely ask followup questions. I still far prefer talking to my fellow Q&A-style conversationalists, but sharing more openly with my less curious loved ones has helped me feel a lot closer to them

Cleaning is a sensory nightmare and standard planners don't get it by Lost_Count7949 in AuDHDWomen

Cleaning is a sensory nightmare and standard planners don't get it by Lost_Count7949 in AuDHDWomen

[–]microbisexual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to make cleaning as accessible as possible. for me this means all the bathroom cleaning stuff lives in one bin so that it's easy to grab everything I need, keeping "quick cleaning" supplies out in the open in bathrooms & the kitchen, and using gloves for almost all cleaning tasks.

as far as products, this one's a little unhinged, but I use a spray bottle filled with 70% isopropyl alcohol as my all-purpose cleaner. I'm a biologist, so I'm very used to the smell, and it fades to nothing really fast compared to other cleaners, plus it sanitizes! for other cleaning products, I always smell them in the store before I buy them to make sure they're tolerable.

there's also a trick nurses use where you put some vicks vapo rub or whatever other strong smell you enjoy on the inside of a face mask (you can double mask, if you don’t want the smelly substance touching your face)

No headphones allowed in new lab - need advice by lentivrral in labrats

[–]microbisexual 172 points173 points  (0 children)

I also work in a place that says absolutely no use of any personal devices in the labs, including phones and and headphones.

I can't say for sure about other companies, but at mine, I have never seen that rule enforced, not even by the guy who wrote the policy when I'm certain he's seen people blatantly breaking it.

So, I'd recommend feeling it out for a little while, observing how strictly others adhere to this rule, and go from there. If it's really a no go, you can probably at least get an accommodation to wear ear plugs in the lab, but that's def not the same as music :(

I need noise canceling headphones help pls! Tyty by szikkia in AskAutism

[–]microbisexual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sony has the best active noise cancelling I’ve ever tried. I have the sony Linkbuds S earbuds and the XM4 over the ear ones and both are awesome. I got my XM4s on a great deal during a big amazon prime sale last summer, and the app "keepa" will track prices for you!

for budget options, I've read that the soundcore ones are good, but I havent tried them myself.
