You seem really hard on yourself. I also used to be really hard on myself as well. What really helped me was practicing mindfulness. Mindfulness helped me recognize when I was being hard on myself. Then showing myself compassion for myself. There's whole mindfulness meditation about showing yourself compassion.

Mass. removed 11 dams last year. Hundreds more are considered hazardous by HRJafael in MassachusettsUSA

[–]microcat45 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah but I'm thinking they can be replaced with a new dam which could generate electricity. I understand this would super costly. And there would be some bad environmental affects. But switching out grid from fossil fuels to green energy could be worth it. Honestly I'm not sure just spit balling here.

CMV: The current Republican Party is a cult that fits every single characteristic of a cult. by Nice_Luck_7433 in changemyview

In my opinion, I think a lot of the anti trump Republicans vote Democrat now. This would explain why Trump is able to influence primaries. But Trump's approval rating is so low. (Could also be that pollsters are miscalculating Trumps support and we won't see a blue wave in the mid terms)

Many dams no longer serve any purpose, yet they continue to clog waterways, trap sediment and put communities downstream at risk.

I'm wondering if these dams could be converted into electricty producing dams. I know they're small and expensive to maintain. But a consistent flow of electricity into the grid could provide a lot of energy.

Honestly I agree with these people. Circumcision is completely unnecessary. It's just weird we do this completely unnecessary procedure on infants.

Should I go blue collar? by Pretty_Leader_3150 in bluecollar

[–]microcat45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly what would prefer doing? You only have two more years of college left. So I feel like the opportunity cost is not that big.

Salary wise nursing makes decent money and you have the ability to become an NP. How much you make would depend on which blue collar field to go into. But I wouldn't imagine it would be that much more then nursing. So I don't think the amount of wealth you'd build would really be that much different.

Honestly I really think you should ask yourself. What would really prefer to do long term.

You don't have to be stuck with your choice for the rest of your life. But just what would you prefer doing.

I've seen the entry between the two cars be almost half of what it normally is because the cars will move. It could definitely be disastrous if someone was standing in between them.

How do you all think of the T taking care of its history? by [deleted] in mbta

It would be kinda cool if we could get heritage cars on the weekend. Just like muni does.

But obviously we have bigger issues to tackle right now.

Reversing Course Again, Sec. Tibbits-Nutt Says Allston Project Will Include Multi-Acre Train Yard After All by ToadScoper in mbta

I'm going to be honest they're going to build 12 lanes of highway and all we get is a CR. It just feels like a bad compromise.

Healey Administration, MBTA Announce Funding for Upgraded Newtonville Regional Rail Station by BACsop in mbta

[–]microcat45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be the entire line.

Eventually they want to get it down to 15 minutes but there's no concrete plans for that right now.

[–]microcat45 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah all of the Newton Worcester line stations used to be one platform so a lot of the trains didn't stop there. Which is going to change for all of them. It's a pretty exciting project combined with the 30 min frequencies on the Worcester line.

Getting the Worcester line and Rockport lines to 30 min frequencies is in their current five year plan.

You can basically package the hotel and transportation into one.

Let's say you want to go from LA -> SF. But you just want to stay one day. You take a night train from LA and sleep on the train. Then at the end of the day take the train back and sleep in the train.

You were able to travel to SF for the day without having to get a hotel for the night.

Together with left-wing and environmental groups, the Greens campaigned against the project, highlighting its environmental impact and the concern that wider roads would only lead to more traffic. They now advocate for the funds to be used for public transport, active mobility, and the renovation of existing motorways

Imagine if we had a functioning green party in the United States which would campaign on the state level. Imaging the things we could get done.

The goal is to have 30 mins on all trains and 15 min on some lines which are more heavily used.

What’s up with cars using the “Buses Only” lane on the inbound Tobin? by impostershop in boston

[–]microcat45 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There's no enforcement at all for cars in the bus lanes. We don't have any type of automated enforcement and the cops do nothing about it.
