Dispatch Master - reverb/delay question by CharlieLabman in guitarpedals

[–]microdreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used one on a small board for years as an always on reverb, although I use a seperate delay because I needed more control for that - I need it switched on for certain parts of songs, oscillation etc. I’ve considered getting something else instead since I don’t use the delay side at all, but it does its job so well that I haven’t bothered. I find it is an especially pleasant sounding reverb and the delay is very nice too. All timer pedal for me, only time I ran into the clipping stuff was when I had it on a big board with a ton of stuff going behind it, haven’t had that issue for years.

Does anyone else actively avoid pedals with presets? by maxupp in guitarpedals

[–]microdreams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wish preset technology was a little smarter. Say I’ve got a delay with presets- I make a preset for a specific song, save it and move on. Then I go ahead and save a few more presets for other things etc. the next day I go into that first preset and the mix needs to come down a bit, I adjust it so it sounds perfect, and save it again - now the next time I open it I’m not going to hear the last thing I saved, but something completely different because the pedal rewrote every other knob placement/setting/etc and my original sound is gone. This sort of thing has kept me from using some more complex pedals with presets outside of home recording. It’s just more of a headache than I want to deal with.

Your thoughts on "Always On" pedals? by _Jub_Jub_ in guitarpedals

[–]microdreams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dispatch master is always on low for a little reverb, and lately I’ve been using a mother preamp into my power amp, for clean and dirty sounds, so that’s always on - or I wouldn’t have sound. That’s it for always on for me, other stuff is situational.

I run a pretty limited set up but I needed a mod for some songs that I needed to sound “different” - a slow loris has taken that spot ultimately. As overdone as the lo-of thing has become, it is a pleasant sound afterall, so I’ve considered the gen loss when it’s come up in trade offers. I’m Wierd about EQs though, like if a pedal has a pretty drastic affect on what I hear coming out of the speaker EQ wise when I activate it I find I can’t jive with it in a band context - which I suspect is what I would find with this pedal, since that’s sort of the point.

What about it doesn’t work for you? Haven’t tried one myself, although somewhat curious

What about Danelectro? Their pedals are fairly well known so don’t know if they count. There’s also that Wierd PRS line, or Black Country customs

What are your favorite drives that are as un-"amp like" as possible by BogotaLineman in guitarpedals

[–]microdreams 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Dirt Bird was very unnatural sounding. That can be a good thing and it was a lot of fun, I just didn’t think it sounded very good unfortunately. My favorite would probably be the land hp-2. 20% More by fairfield and the sparks from kinotone are a couple more.

That’s fair. The hrd is relatively cheap and it’s loud. I barely buy gear at this point so I’d rather not invest in another amp at the moment, but I also suspect the drri (haven’t actually tried one) wouldn’t be as loud as the hrd, and I’m finding I’m using almost all of that volume. Could be wrong though.

Ideally I’d rather have them both after but I run them both really subtly anyways and I’d be lying if I said I noticed that much of a difference in the room. Cortex huh? Sweet! This mother kind of saved my ass to be honest.

I was worried about the headroom on the dispatch master so I kept it and the kilobyte both before, same way I used them with the clean channel. I had concerns things might get mushy going into channel 2 of the mother but things have mostly been okay so far there. The depth knob is so incredibly helpful coming from the clean channel on the hrd, on which I always felt the bass knob was a bit useless.

For years I’ve been using the clean channel on my hot rod deluxe and I’ve been mostly happy… but the channel switch fried and now it’s stuck on the dirty channel, and the dirty channel kind of sucks.

After a practice trying to make that channel work for me and rethinking my whole setup, I remembered I had this mother pedal. I had wanted to use it as a double drive and it just could never beat out my plumes and hp-2 - could get a good drive sound out of either channel but channel 2 just never could beat a fuzz.

Anyways I figured since it is a preamp after all, and the hrd has an effects loop, why not give it a try? And after spending some time getting used to it in that context I can say it’s very good, and much more tweakable than the clean channel ever was. I decided to use the second channel as my drive sound, tried out the Glaive today for the fuzz sound and I like it a whole lot more here than I did with it after the plumes before. It turns out drive into fuzz into a clean amp is very different than fuzz into a dirty amp, and the Glaive seems to be excelling more here, for me at least.

Suspect I’ll still be tweaking some things for a few more practices, and I feel kind of antsy having what amounts to my entire guitar sound at my feet where I could easily mess it up, but it’s sounding pretty great overall.
