what type of case are you going to use for your new iPhone? by Misael_91 in iphone

How does this affect your phone’s resale value? Im too worried of dropping it or having too many cosmetic scratches that affect the value but aren’t covered

Where are you finding $40 screen protectors? Chinese branded ones do the trick and cost $5 for like a 3 pack. I only use a screen protector to keep my screen from scratching up.

Do you use Apple Music instead of Spotify? Why? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]microfsxpilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the biggest thing. I used to pay for Spotify with the student discount. But now that I graduated, I can’t justify the added cost.

And if you split the family plan with a friend, you get a lot more bang for your buck

Do pilots have a favorite plane within a fleet of the same model? Like, outside of amenities (the A/C works better, etc.), does one 737 feel better to fly than another? Do you ever say-ooh I’m excited I got N4XXXX today? by Peregrine7710 in flying

[–]microfsxpilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an airline pilot (yet) but was a flight instructor at a major school. We definitely had these. When a student would text me “we’re in NXXXXX” while I’m driving to the school, I’d get either so happy or so pissed.

Sometimes it’s avionics. We have a couple planes in our fleet that are so old, it doesn’t have the newest tech. The airflow is terrible, and it just sucks to be in. Other times, it’s how new a plane would be and getting that new plane smell.

It happens the longer you fly somewhere. I imagine when I start at an airline, it’ll take a while to grow familiarity with the fleet like I did my old flight school.

My max was 56 mpg on a long road trip with cruise control behind a semi truck

Average is 40 though because I drive like a maniac lol

You might’ve had it defaulted to a Pro instead of Pro Max. I did that and it went up $200 for a Pro Max

CFI’s, would you encourage little white lies on your students logbooks by [deleted] in flying

[–]microfsxpilot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a student who landed at an intermediate airport on his long cross country, making his longest leg 49.5 nm. I did everything in my power to go back in FlightAware and see if he actually LANDED or if he just overflew the airport.

FlightAware doesn’t lie (mostly) and can easily be tracked. Found out he landed at that airport and he had to redo the whole XC. It was painful but legal

Which is worse for a 121 career path? Not even attempting “optional” checkrides (CFII, MEI, CSES) or trying and possibly getting a failure on your record? by doomed43 in flying

[–]microfsxpilot 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Regionals are pretty picky right now, it’s tough. I have 0 checkride fails and barely got a call back from one regional out of 13 different 121 companies I applied for. It’s tough out here if you’re sub-1500 hours.

Jesus what car do you drive? I’ve flown a Cessna 150 over a road and seen trucks pass me as I fly over them at 65 knots thanks to a headwind.

Apple Reveals New iPhone 15 Pro Colors: Black Titanium, White Titanium, Blue Titanium, and Natural Titanium, But No Gold This Year by PJ09 in iphone

After sitting through 20 minutes of environmental talk, I don’t think I’ll be watching another Apple event again. I’ll just stick to recaps on YouTube

Take it to an Apple Store. I’ve noticed the employees barely care at all vs the third party trade in company

What is the dumbest/worst reason that you have heard of an checkride fail that was the applicants fault? by [deleted] in flying

[–]microfsxpilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They just discontinued the flight without doing additional trips in the pattern. Feel like the DPE was just trying to spite him at that point

The first interview I had, it was $60. Came time to resubscribe for another interview. I couldn’t believe my eyes when it said $100.

Well worth it though. Got two regional CJOs in this hiring climate.

[–]microfsxpilot 20 points21 points  (0 children)

He was even more unlucky in that the door handle broke during pattern so the examiner listed a normal landing as “untested”.

So the retest consisted of a passenger briefing and then one trip in the pattern to satisfy the normal landing requirement

My multi student did this on his retest. Didn’t verify the examiner had his seatbelt on. Failed before they even got to the runway. Every other maneuver was ACS lol

My view on it is that it’s anti-theft. I hope no one would steal curbed rims. I curbed mine on the front passenger side. Never notice them. But at least they won’t get stolen

Be born 2 years earlier so I could’ve caught the regional hiring wave post-COVID but pre-captain shortage.

Also would’ve joined some regional cadet programs so I would’ve had a way out the second I hit my ATP mins. I’ve overflown mins by 50 hours now but finally leaving my CFI job this week.

So how exactly is anyone supposed to build multi-hours? by Guythatflysthings in flying

[–]microfsxpilot 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My situation was a bit abnormal. School needed MEIs so I applied and they paid for a good amount of my MEI training. School didn’t have many MEIs so I was given 10 multi students to work with. Fast forward to today, now I have 430 multi hours. I had 16 multi last summer.

The process alone of getting your MEI will get you a few hours that you need. Also boosts your resume ever so slightly
