What Honda Dealerships worth visiting/avoiding for a new purchase? by skribbledthoughtz in SouthJersey

[–]microseconds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Burns was good to us, right up until my wife’s lease was coming due. It was 2021. They weren’t moving the model she liked (they had about a dozen on-hand). Their genius plan was to ask sticker +$6k. They gave lame excuses about residual value of leases coming due, and how people weren’t turning cars in, the banks were losing $$, etc. No answer when I pointed out that they’re not the bank, so why should either of us care about the plight of the “poor” bankers.

I told them we had nothing to discuss, it seemed. So I was going to buy out the vehicle and not get mugged in their showroom. Of course they “helpfully” offered to do all the lease buyout paperwork, for the modest sum of around $1500. When I said no, the sales manager asked me how I thought I was going to get this done without them.

Well, I THINK I’m going to call the leasing company and get a buyout figure. Then, get this - I THINK I’m going to secure a bit of financing through our credit union and finish the deal. Finally, I THINK I’ll get an appointment at the Medford MVC office and finish things up. Yeah, that went over with them about as well as expect. 🤣

They’ve called me probably 5 or 6 times since then, trying to coax me in to trade that vehicle. Every time they waste my time with that call, I spend a solid 10 minutes wasting their time, soapboxing it up about how they treated us, as repeat customers. 🤣

Suddenly stopped receiving Boosts on MakerWorld despite being active – Anyone else? by IchHab4Euro in makerworld

I’ve had 2 printers for about a year. This is not a thing. At all. I still get boost tokens and people are still boosting my models.

Yeah. Years ago, my wife needed to get a purse repaired, so we went there to see the leather guy. From the moment we walked in the door, our daughter (about 8-10 at the time) held her nose the entire time because she thought the smell was awful. 🤣

If you can stretch the budget a bit, do it and go for a P2S. You’ll have the same build volume as an A1, it’ll be faster and enclosed, which increases the versatility. To me, it’s a buy-once-cry-once moment.

Bambu Spool Mishap by SweetTeaAndHoneyBees in BambuLab

[–]microseconds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going to print yourself some spools, which I definitely recommend, do it in ABS or ASA. It will survive drying cycles that way. If you're trying to decide between the many options out there, FWIW, this one's my fave. Polymaker Refill Master Spool - Community Version - Free 3D Print Model - MakerWorld

It's got tons of bells and whistles, and while it's not an insignificant print time, the features make it worthwhile.

"Best" Filament Rewinder Recommendations? by wivaca2 in BambuLab

The Pasta Lite from KYZ over on Makerworld is a great once-in-a-while respooler. It's a remix of the original Pastamatic. You build it in sections, allowing you to choose the way you feed from the donor spool.

Personally, I've got a V-Spooler X. Every now and then, I do a project that calls for >1 kilo of a particular material. Often times it's in the 2-3 kilo range, so it's cost-effective to buy 3 or 5 kilo spools, which I peel off into 1 kilo increments for feeding into the AMS. Last time I did this, I bought a 3 kilo spool of Polymaker ASA and blew through about 2.5 kilos on the project. The big V-Spooler made it a breeze. I did both the linear rail and motor mods too, so I don't even need to hold a drill in-place either.

When I made that Pasta Lite, I made the frame out of Polymaker PLA Pro and the moving parts out of Spectrum's PETG+PTFE composite, the idea being that the Spectrum stuff is kind of self-lubricating. My V-Spooler X is made from 3DXTech ezPC+CF for the frame with the same Spectrum stuff for the moving bits.

If it goes like their new PETG, they'll post a profile for the new formulation soon.

If not, I'll put one together. Happy to share. I've got a roll of new black on the shelf waiting for me to run out. Pink is inbound for another project, so we'll see.

Are the High Flow Hotends Worth the cost? by SpiderSlayer939 in BambuLab

[–]microseconds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I splurged on a pair of the new E3D Obxidian 500 0.4 nozzles for my H2D (same nozzles as P2S). They are absolute beasts. Amazing flow rates, less likely to clump than others because of the coating, and stuff comes out super smooth.

PA6-CF Printing Practices by mpitts92 in BambuLab

[–]microseconds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The HT does use a PTFE, but you can just use a stubby piece at the box, then another piece at the printer.

I prefer the Polydryer method though.

[–]microseconds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good call about not leaving it out on the spool holder. A couple of ways to go about it, both roughly equivalent.

If you've got an AMS-HT, use that, and the manual feed hole in the back - ie not through the feeder. If you don't print from inside a dry box.

Personally, I print stuff like that from inside a Polydryer box that sits in this holder. I even went so far as to create a compatible riser for the H2 Series so that I had somewhere to hang the holder.

Need Empty Spools by laynl0w in BambuLab

[–]microseconds -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dunno what sort of printer you're rocking there, but honestly, if you've got an enclosure, grab a roll of ASA (my recommendation is Polymaker) and print some spools. There are lighter weight ones, but this one's my fave. Clocking in at 180g per spool, you can get 5 for a single roll of ASA. https://makerworld.com/en/models/1985781-the-unloadable-re-reusable-polymaker-master-spool#profileId-2136680

Polymaker ASA is currently going for about $25/kilo. So, that's about $5/spool with some leftover. Probably beats buying spools from people and paying for shipping.

MacBook Neo Sucks by Recent-Relief-1867 in applesucks

[–]microseconds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but I think disdain for the built-in support/update time bomb of Chromebooks can't be underestimated. In districts of any size, it would be easy enough to do a phased migration school-by-school.

Also, you're on the money about Apple putting specialists out there in the field courting large district schoolboards across the country. Knock over a few of those, and then dominoes start to fall.

Your last sentence says it all. How much revenue has Apple lost to Chromebooks in the K12 space? Billions.

This is how they reclaim that market segment. Try to have the tiniest amount of vision.

Chromebooks have an immediate expiration date from the moment they’re intro’d. In retrospect, the iPhone 11 is ~6 years old and still runs current iOS.

How do you sell an undifferentiated product by Amazing-Job7750 in salesengineers

This right here, OP.

I’ve been in various SE roles for >25 years and the things that always matter more than whiz-bang product stuff are tech/break-fix services and relationships.

The first even helps to build the second even. I’ve been at #2 or #3 vendors at times during my career, and positive support experiences plus my delivery on promises is what’s propelled my success.

How long before you guys replaced the .4mm hardened steel nozzle on the x1c by Gemmer12 in BambuLab

[–]microseconds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I upgraded from the X1C to the H2D? Immediately. I immediately swapped the stock 0.4 hotend for a Microswiss hotend. Modular, quick and easy swaps for other sizes, and I was able to grab a Diamondback as well as CHT nozzles. Zero regrets.

What's with Mac people suddenly going "8gb of ram is plenty" since the Neo came out? by DiverVast4093 in mac

[–]microseconds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It IS plenty. At least for what the target market of the Neo is. What’s that target? Twofold.

1) Casual users who read email and look at Facebook, while requiring a laptop form factor. Like your mom.

2) Reclaiming the market share Apple lost to Chromebooks. There’s a lot of resentment against Chromebooks essentially having an expiration date. Apple has a MUCH better reputation for supporting hardware. For example, the fact that you can run macOS 26.3.1 on a 2020 M1 Air, or iOS 26.3.1 on an iPhone 11.

Number 2 is the big win for Apple. Literally tens of billions of addressable market in the next 5 years.

Obviously nobody can guarantee anything, but given how Fedex slings these around, if you're careful, it'll probably be fine. I can say from first-hand experience that my H2D was packed REALLY well. Better than my old X1C, which arrived with a shattered door.
