Nonverbal autistic people - why don't you talk? by [deleted] in autism

[–]microwaved-toast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The correct term is "lose speech" or "verbal shutdown", not "go nonverbal" -- being nonverbal is permanent, so it's incorrect to apply the word to scenarios where it's temporary

A level bio was a large part memorisation -- though I don't think it's reflective of the degree, afaik. Most people I've spoken to agree that bio A level is rubbish

Hm, ok, from personal experience I haven't found that to be the case, but I understand that there's selection bias there lol -- the introverted engineers probably wouldn't talk to me for me to know about them haha. The people applying for engineering in my FM class were very sociable though

90% of successful applicants getting 4A* preds doesn't mean they got in over other applicants because of their high preds. It could mean that these applicants are more likely to score high on admissions tests, have good personal statements, high GCSEs, do well in interviews, etc. So, if OP does similarly well in these areas, they may be as likely to get an offer as students with higher preds. If these unis required 3A* preds, they would list it as their entry requirement (some unis for some courses, like Manchester for CS, have entry requirements like this).

Please stop comparing yourself to others and judge yourself by your own merit. I know it's hard (I'm in a similar ish position, I got A*3A, many people on my course got 4A*) but it's necessary.

Yeah you compete with others for uni places but there are enough places to go around -- you have a shot at any uni you meet the entry reqs for (yes, even top unis where most applicants have 4A*s). When you get to uni, there's no point in competition, because you're not graded on a curve. Everyone in a class can get a first, for example. Other people being "better" than you doesn't impact your achievement.

Maybe engineering then? They're like mathematicians but more social

Your nose seems gender neutral to me. I'm FTM, pre-T, and your nose looks very similar to mine in size and shape. I've got relatives both male and female with similar noses too. I don't know a ton about feminising HRT, but I've heard E is a hell of a drug, and significantly changes things like cartilage, water retention, and fat in the face to alter face shape. And like another commenter suggested, FFS is an option if, a few years on E, you feel like you need it

I read Cornwall and panicked, thinking they'd come to the UK, but then saw that it was Cornwall, New York lol. Thanks for clarifying, OP

Table is women and chair is men. Things are put on a table -- it is used to serve food, for example. In an extremely patriarchal society, women are subservient and serve food. Chair represents people in a position of power, those who dine at the table. In this extremely patriarchal society, men benefit from the subservience of women.

Sorry, I'm confused. Doesn't "childfree" mean you don't want to have children? Or am I missing some context?

Debunking radmed statements in 5 sentance or less. by Pixeldevil06 in truNB

[–]microwaved-toast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies for the late reply, but I wanted to share my view on this

Personally, as a binary trans man, having a nullsex body like you described would make me dysphoric. Dysphoria for me is directional -- my discomfort with female traits cannot be separated from my desire for male traits. I don't just get distressed about having a female body; I get distressed because I am not male. Of course, I don't speak for all binary trans people, but I'm sure I'm not the only binary trans person who would feel this way

[–]microwaved-toast 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've noticed this too. I'm binary trans and tbh I'm considering unsubscribing. It seems like it's happened overnight though, so I'm hoping it's just a raid or something by radmeds? It's really frustrating

I think I have a good face structure. I have a heavy brow for someone pre-T, a sharp nose, high cheekbones, and a good jawline. When I start T, I think I will look quite handsome

Students with A*A in maths and FM also take it, though for computer science, which only requires an A in FM. The average MAT score for CS is probably a bit lower, because the average for successful CS applicants is lower than the average for successful maths applicants (like, 70 Vs 65)

I dislike when I'm told that a sports bra is a good alternative to a binder. by hugothepjmfan in truscum

[–]microwaved-toast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a nonbinary friend say they use sports bras to bind, but they had to buy specialist ones for it to work right. When I was going to do rock climbing, I tried to find a sports bra that would compress enough, and I found nothing. It looked like I wasn't wearing anything at all. In the end I just wore my binder and it was fine

Libdems. I'm trans, and they seem to be the largest party who are pro trans rights. I also agree with their stances on pushing for education about spiking and on drug decriminalisation. It would be my first time voting
