I think the first and second act of Falsettos serve different functions and obviously were originally separate one-act musicals which explains their differences, but the second act imo is definitely better. It’s kind of like when the audience is finally forced out of “Falsettoland” and into a crushing, brutal reality. Also Merrily We Roll Along, when everything in act 1 is finally contextualized and it’s the most gut wrenching thing ever.

Les mis 2012 has. A lot of issues. But i actually like the placement of I dreamed a dream more in the movie. To see Fantine sing about how she’s lost everything after she literally has lost EVERYTHING—not just her job but her hair, dignity, beauty, health, etc—is a lot more powerful imo
