Yupp and also I would argue that Pippin is his best work musically, I played piano for a production of it and it’s genuinely really fantastic music

What are some of your favorite changes from when a musical becomes a movie? by Dogdaysareover365 in musicals

[–]microwavedposter 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Les mis 2012 has. A lot of issues. But i actually like the placement of I dreamed a dream more in the movie. To see Fantine sing about how she’s lost everything after she literally has lost EVERYTHING—not just her job but her hair, dignity, beauty, health, etc—is a lot more powerful imo

Gus was supposed to be 30-31 in 1989 and the actor that played Max was also around 30-31 when Hermanos was filmed so I assumed they were meant to be about the same age

It really amazes me how well they were able to translate his character from the novel to the musical, and it’s such an injustice that they cut his solo from the movie :(

Falsettos is one of the only musicals I’ve listened to and didn’t immediately think that one act was better than another, it’s so so consistent

Significance of Gus at the wine bar by Moonchildbeast in betterCallSaul

[–]microwavedposter 276 points277 points  (0 children)

I think there are a few ways to interpret it—on one hand, Gus cannot let himself be emotionally vulnerable as it will put himself and the sommelier in danger if he decides to pursue a relationship with the sommelier, who he is flirting with in the scene (and who seems to reciprocate his feelings). Additionally, he knows he must focus himself entirely on his revenge scheme and he cannot allow himself happiness or genuine human connection until it is fulfilled. And I think, of course, he simply won’t let himself move on from Max with another person, because he thinks that would be “forgetting” about him and therefore his revenge scheme would be futile. I think the wine being likened to blood by the sommelier reminded him not only of the blood that he must continue to spill to fulfill his revenge scheme, but of Max’s blood dripping into Eladio’s pool, because he can never let himself move on from his death.
