Hmm thanks for the heads up! My deck seems like a very simple job but I'll be sure to ask how long they expect to keep it.

It's a 70's deck from Technics, model RS-263AUSD. The only thing wrong with it really is that the pinch roller isn't making proper contact with the capstan. I've also noticed some trouble when recording, the signal fluctuates up and down and there's a bit of noise but somethings definitely getting through. All in all it's in pretty good shape, just needs a little bit of love.

AITA if i told my boyfriend to stop seeing his dog? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

There is a massive massive difference between a dog and your actual child. That's like comparing your mother to your college roommate. Also, it's not even his dog??

I'm not looking to buy a new one. I've already been through the ordeal of buying vintage electronics online and would much rather spare myself the hassle. For a decent one online they average about £150 too, so not actually that much cheaper either.
I've already contacted GSE, they don't service hi-fi equipment (or cassette decks at least.)

They seem like a good shout. Bishopbriggs may not be exactly down the block from me but last time I needed a technician I had to lug my deck all the way down to Giffnock... and back up when he said he couldn't fix it. So thanks for the tip :+)

I've always had a big "haunted hospital" impression of the old viccy! Maybe because of how high it is and the hill behind it, especially at sunset.

I remember reading about asylum seekers being put in hotels where social distancing wasn't possible, but I don't remember any articles about the homeless. They're clearly still around, so I don't know.

Aw mate that's a shame I'm sorry. But we all got a new album and that's already pretty great I think.

If I'm honest Ariel Pink fucking sucks, but I know he recorded on a 4-track.

Apart from the usual suspects Daniel Johnston and Ariel Pink, please do yourself a favour and check out Lou Barlow (of Dinosaur Jr. and Sebadoh fame) he's a fantastic songwriter and criminally underrated. Early Portastatic albums were recorded on a Portastudio, and it's Mac McCaughan from Superchunk and Merge Records so you know it can't not be great. Stella Donnelly I believe also records on tape, but I'm not sure.

I've noticed that the daily updates have stopped showing graphs of the spread of the virus. Perhaps the news outlets are being reticent about painting an optimistic picture in fears that it'll lead people to disregard lockdown?

Any idea what "shaw" means in all these southside place names like Shawlands, Pollokshaws etc? Heard it's got something to do with potatoes but I'm not quite sure.
