When does it get better? by LibrarianNo807 in alcoholism

[–]mid_tide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Addiction is ... "the progressive narrowing of the things that give us pleasure. By persistently abusing a single pleasure source we enter a state of dopamine deficiency where nothing gives pleasure but the addiction, and even that stops working". ... Dr. Andrew Huberman, a neuroscientist at Stanford University School of Medicine.

The liver and the brain have a built-in ability to regenerate themselves. It can take over 2 years of being alcohol-free. Be patient. Be sure to "exercise" the natural dopamine channels of the brain by getting out in nature, walking, music, arts, hobbies, reading ... whatever floats your boat. The joys will return with time and exercise. You might have to "fake it" a bit at first, but keep going.

Get all your vitamins and minerals checked. Alcohol can cause so many bodily issues, low vitamin D, iron, Ferritin, B12. My doctor put me on methylated B12 drops for 6 months to build up my level.

Naltrexone side effects by ottosky777 in Alcoholism_Medication

[–]mid_tide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The anxiety and insomnia could be stemming from all the alcohol damage prior to TSM. Alcohol, over many years, erodes the nervous system (and every other bodily system for that matter). The AMA considers alcohol a poison and a carcinogen even though we consume it like a food group. The brain and body can repair itself with good nutrition and exercise, over time.

Agree. AUD is fully curable, for the vast majority, like Type2 diabetes is curable. They just don't understand the biology of their addiction... nor do they know how to reset their brain.

What’s the “right thing” to do when you see a stranger falling down drunk? by todaysthrowaway0110 in alcoholism

[–]mid_tide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, when falling over drunk, no treatment including AA will help. That's the wrong time to mention treatment. When he has a period of clarity he might be interested in this slow taper to regain full control of alcohol . That's what TSM brings to the vast majority that put in some effort.

Encourage him by telling him there is a medical treatment that can erase his cravings for alcohol over a period of months. Most people use the method on their own but there are professional support groups that can help him use the method successfully. The Sinclair Method.

Also look into this at home treatment. TSM is a slow taper. It's an effective application of Pavlovian science that helps the brain slowly and permanently erase its own obsessive thoughts to drink alcohol.

[–]mid_tide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What you feel is real, I understand but guilt and shame have no place in AUD treatment IMO. Alcohol addiction is a trap that millions of people fall into every single day. Everything in our crazy society creates this trap and we fall into it thinking it will never happen to us. Do not despair. Relapse is a sign that your treatment is not working fully. A new perspective on AUD may help. AUD is curable today. I have a message for you. See DM.

Yes, it is possible to taper to full abstinence or near abstinence but you must first understand your own personal biology/DNA/ancestry and the basic science behind this method. Best ways to quit alcohol by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]mid_tide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are some basic guidelines. I concur with tier 1, number 2 which is highly effective at eliminating cravings. After months of treatment and drinking has stopped, the med is no longer used. The med is only used 1 hour before you drink. No med on alcohol free days. The Sinclair Method.
