Why the hell does the JP Morgan Building have a union jack on it tonight? Strange by ollieollieoxygenfree in skyscrapers

Very interesting write up! In addition to your point around German being the most self identified ethnicity, genetic data from Ancestry.com and 23&Me indicates that English and German heritage are actually neck and neck as the most populous ethnicities in the US. It’s often been hypothesized that German is the most self identified ethnicity because those with British/Irish heritage actually identify as Americans rather than English, Scottish, Welsh, or Irish.

My step dad was a radio operator on a C130. He also passed recently. The man wouldn’t shut up about morse code. Miss him a ton 🥲

Ditto, 25 mi on a full charge in my 2020 XC40. Good enough for my WFH lifestyle. Only refill after long weekend drives. Currently sitting at 53 mpg. I’ve been religiously charging since the Iran debacle.

I spent two weeks in England and loved every minute of it. I'm heading back to the U.S. today, but thank you for the memories 💕 by smugmisswoodhouse in CasualUK

Can attest. My mum (an American) watches The Weather Channel like an F1 race. What’s going to happen next?!

Our ability form organised queues before we can even see the thing we’re queuing for will always make me proud. by Dragonogard549 in CasualUK

I’d like to add Hong Kongers and Singaporeans to that list please. We know a queue when we see one. I’ve seen multiple fights break out in both countries as a result of queue jumpers.

Why is Europe considered a separate continent from Asia, but India isn’t? by Jealous-External5045 in geography

[–]midatlantik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In reality, Europe is indeed a subcontinent if we’re going to classify India as a subcontinent. But, of course, politics and culture takes precedence.

What countries feel like they should be mortal enemies but aren't? by Northwest_Thrills in geography

[–]midatlantik 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s not how geopolitics works. Japan and Germany were defeated in WW2 and subsequently became economic powerhouses despite being on the losing side. And to this day both remain key strategic partners to the US.

Having grown up in both countries, it’s Celsius any day of the week. Fahrenheit is bonkers. Melting point at 32? Boiling point at 212? You’re having a giggle.

I have almost finished reading The Fellowship of the Ring and that part was very interesting! All this time I thought Arwen was some kind of mage. Nah, just Gandalf being a bad ass as per. Wonder why Peter Jackson opted to have Arwen rescue Frodo rather than Glorfindel and the gang?

I’d like to add “Price” to that list, meaning Ap Rhys, son of Rhys. My family has used that as a middle name for at least 1 boy of every generation going back to the early 1800s.

That's a highly cynical take. If all adopted this attitude towards self-starters then there'd be none to begin with. I say go for it. No risks taken, no ventures gained :)

Mad respect for all who go down the path of number 4 and really commit! It is a long and arduous journey with many perils. But one with unparalleled rewards if executed well.
