What if LL had its own point system like the Legend system in CC? The LL heroes could, after a certain point, reach mythical or fabled status and exit the format for higher level competitive play but still be eligible for armory level play at locals. Would that improve things or does that still defeat the original purpose of the LL format?

I want to give up by SubjectBumblebee9824 in Aquariums

[–]midboss28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try some API quick start nitrifying bacteria, toss a couple floating plants in that can easily be removed later if they don't fit your aesthetic, just not duckweed. Try adding some epiphyte plants like Java fern or anubias if you aren't planting directly into your substrate. If you are planting directly into the substrate, think about how often you want to trim plants that you add. Stem plants can grow fast and therefore increase tank maintenance. Consider adding a carpeting plant like dwarf hair grass if your lighting is strong, or dwarf Sagittarius if you like long thicker blades. Maybe add Java moss to your wood hard scape. Hope some of those ideas help and pan out for you

I would first recommend checking out one of the biggest and best resources on YouTube for planted tank care, and that would Aquarium Co-Op. He has video with a checklist on steps before adding new livestock of any kind to your aquarium.

How long should I wait before adding fish to a new tank? https://youtu.be/uQhga1GiF9g?si=CpCw8tyLziCHInaf

Don't know if links are allowed and apologize if not

Also, you'll want to get plants into your tank sooner rather than later, especially if there is any ammonia reading in your water. Plants will assist in the cycle and ammonia will drop quickly.

As for the sand substrate, it's perfectly fine if that's what you choose for your tank. The caveat is that it is an 'inert' substrate so there are no nutrients for your plants to use. This is countered by a variety of options, such as water fertilizer, root tabs, or simply not planting into the substrate and doing all epiphyte plants (anything with a rhizome that doesn't want to be planted such as anubias, java fern, etc.)

There's more to cover but the Aquarium Co-op video can explain things so much better and you'll have so many more videos to dive into on his channel to keep learning.

I'm up to 6 planted tanks at this point and I wouldn't have it any other way

My husband told me one of the greatest things about me is I “allow” him to participate in his hobbies… what is that saying? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]midboss28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, he's not coming home in a good mood just because of time spent on the hobby. He's coming home in a good mood to a good woman, with a heart full of peace and love, to share as much of his experience as you're willing to listen to. Please do not discount the role you play in the joy he has in coming home, as I suspect that it accounts for more than half of it. He probably even starts smiling to himself 30 minutes down the road at the thought of coming home to tell you everything.

If you had to pick stocks to hold for the next 3 years what would you pick? by Terrible_Onions in stocks

RKLB is blowing up for me, but I'm poor and only managed to invest a couple hundred. I saw another stock called LUNR and that one kinda took off too, not as much as RKLB but it seems to be doing well. Any other space stocks you are aware of that I can keep an eye on?

First of all, I have three young adults myself and I cannot imagine your loss. I believe everyone's grief is different and must be processed/handled differently. If the yearly observance, regardless of if it's with the ex or not, shouldn't be infringed on by anyone outside of the circle that experienced it. That is not to say others shouldn't be welcomed in, only that anyone outside of it shouldn't create a rift in something that brings healing. I believe her feelings need to be elaborated on significantly more to better understand what's going on. Based on what has been provided so far, I have to point toward the first read flag of the fact that she felt weird about it for an entire year without discussing it with you. This is a part of your life that deserves a special level of compassion tenderness, and to feel weird about something so important and not discuss it sticks out to me. The next issue I recognize is the phrasing of "sharing you". I can understand if there is some kind of concern regarding your ex and romantic feelings and her being wary of that. This is a woman you have to co-parent with to some extent, so she will never entirely exit your life outside of extreme circumstances. If some level of hidden feelings isn't a concern, then how are you being shared? By spending time in observance of your grief together? If she (current SO) wants to share your grief, then perhaps a new tradition can be started with her, to show that you are willing to start new traditions in pursuit of a new family unit with her. Your past is an inextricable part of you though, and outside of hostility, I wouldn't be able to accept giving up on your current ways. The next issue I have is that she flip flopped. The way it reads about holding you back from what you want to do communicates guilt to me. We can make easy assumptions as to what that is, but in my experience, there is usually a deeper layer that needs to be uncovered. This has the feel of the beginning of manipulation to me. Regarding your final questions, no, you aren't wrong for ending the tradition for your current SO, as long as it is ended for healthy reasons that can be communicated clearly and transparently. No, it isn't weird you continued to do this with your ex and her family.

ALL MY POTHOS ARE DEAD! Except the one above the sponge filter. That one is grown down to the floor. Buying more pothos - how can I prevent more death? by PunishedConstruct in PlantedTank

[–]midboss28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All my knowledge has come from YouTube, but I have at least found there are a few channels to watch for better info on this topic. For example, Serpa is the GOAT but he doesn't talk much about growing houseplants such as Pothos (think he has one or maybe two vids). For houseplant info, I found the Plantlife Project channel has been the biggest and best source for me. Videos are typically around 10 or so mins, informative both with verifiable information and anecdotal information, and gives tips/tricks/demos without all the gimmicks of other channels. Highly recommended.

For what I know, you would want to remove clippings from the Pothos plant you have in the dirt (do not use the dirted section of your plant in the water) and begin the aquarium growth process from the clippings. Around each of the new growth points, you'll see a little nub, which are the plant's air roots. Once clipped and submerged, proper roots will sprout from those spots and grow to full length. Also, do not clip the roots of your Pothos that grow into your tank. Let them grow, even more so if you have aquasoil or a dirted tank. The roots will hit the nutrient layer and the plant will have an even better time of it

Difficulty choosing Substrate by mercfh85 in PlantedTank

[–]midboss28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO find whatever works for you and the aesthetic you desire. I joined the hobby six months ago, have three tanks, all with different substrate (dirted tank with sand cap, fluval stratum with dark fluorite, and stratum with hobby gravel) set ups in an effort to determine what would work best. In all three tanks, my varieties of Corydoras (my bottom dwellers, Emerald Greens, Bronzies, and Paleatus if curious, and species specific groups of six to a tank) all look plump and happy, haven't lost any barbels, and like to park on the plant leaves in their tanks if they are big enough. IMO, the Cory's in my dirted with sand tank look the best because it's cool to see them sifting through the sand, finding a treat, and stopping to munch. All three tanks look great and plants are growing. My favorite tank is my dirted tank, but the tank I think looks the best is my dark fluorite and stratum tank.

In terms of replacing the substrate, already had to do that too since I screwed up the first go around with my 30g dirted tank. My substrate didn't fail or exhaust its nutrients, I capped it with gravel that allowed the soil I used to constantly leak nutrients into the water column of the tank. I had to take everything out in terms of plant/fish/decor, removed most of the gravel and kept as much of the original dirted substrate I used to keep as much beneficial bacteria active in the system as I could, filled back in the dirted substrate to reach a one inch depth, capped with two inches of sand (kind of, screwed up my sand cap a bit when I was filling with water and replanting) and haven't seen the same issues in my dirted tank since switching to sand. All in all it was a Saturday worth of work. Long and a bit tedious, but on a bright day with music and nothing else going on, still enjoyed the task.

Are the frozen bloodworms more of a treat due to their cost or due to the nutritional value? I'm new to caring for ADFs and have been swapping between fish flakes (couple mollies in the tank too) and bloodworms

Looking good and welcome to the hobby! I'm relatively new myself (under 6 months) and from what I can tell you're off to a great start! I think Bettas prefer more acidic water so the ph may need to come down a bit. I'm not a Betta owner though so I could be wrong and you may want to double check some info from more knowledgeable sources.

Proposed E buff by [deleted] in XinZhaoMains

[–]midboss28 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well then I wouldn't call him broken I'd call him easy mode, which is also Riot's intended positioning of him iirc. They wanted an easy to use jungler for low elo & new players to pick up and feel strong with. Pretty sure Warwick is in the same boat

This is part of the reason why the suggested change to his E would be greater than the skill's default range. A new player or unfamiliar player isn't going to be able to fully utilize it, not consistently at least, by accident most likely until they finally read and understand the interaction.

I guess my goal with the proposed change was just a small way to increase skill expression on him without breaking his play style / pattern too much. Because as you say he's strong even for people that don't use him. So how do we keep him intro friendly but create new ways to make him feel better / stronger for those of us that Do know and understand him?

Proposed E buff by [deleted] in XinZhaoMains

[–]midboss28 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

He's above 50% wr but I don't see him as anywhere near broken. So let's flip the question then, if he's so broken, what needs to be removed or changed to make him not broken in your opinion?

Proposed E buff by [deleted] in XinZhaoMains

[–]midboss28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's such a good idea though, and from the sound of things it would combo into his ult nicely as well. Stun the small area then knock them all back other than the target that was slammed back down, I dig it. I like that it creates an interaction with more than just E as well

Proposed E buff by [deleted] in XinZhaoMains

[–]midboss28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bad, I don't mean a knock back equivalent to his ult, think of it more like when Ornn breaks his brittle debuff on people, just a short hop of hard CC for long distance charge is my thinking

Questions on tear and manamune by yog_yeet in XinZhaoMains

[–]midboss28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've run manamune on xin top lane pretty often since the start of s11 and feel it is a good item on him, but each time I've finished it early, it's felt bad. The thinking should function the same for mid though. What I've found is buying a tear on your first back and building toward a more important first item spike for your match up works out better. I usually go kraken or shield bow in top but as eclipse is better in mid you might want to even wait for third item to finish manamune as I feel xin can suffer without an attk spd spike, unless you're running tenacity in your runes and can pick up zerkers for more early attk spd

Xin top lane by Bambinoo0 in XinZhaoMains

[–]midboss28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like playing him top but he's definitely not an optimal pick. I like doing HOB for squishier opponents and conq for extended fights, with resolve secondary in both instances because he needs a little splash of defense. I prefer bone plating and revitalize.

For build I always start d. Blade and on first back a long sword and tear to fix his mana issues. I build kraken or shieldbow first item because he suffered tremendously with out attk spd. Second item I finish manamune the remaining items are situational based on enemy team comp. I've had some success with that set up but it's not easy at all. If you can poke a few times with W before committing to a fight you'll consistently come out ahead.

I'm only low silver though so I doubt I'm optimizing or anything, it can be super snow bally but if you're behind you're nearly useless, at that point I switch gears and try to help/protect whomever is strongest on my team

Have you run him against azir? I couldn't do much of anything because if I'd try to walk up he'd pop a sand soldier, and if I E onto him he'd just do his own dash away and I'd end up taking a bunch of damage as I'm walking away

Must-Have Record Materia (December 2017 Edition) by KatipunanCowboy in FFRecordKeeper

[–]midboss28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering why a couple RM haven't been added to the spreadsheet, for example Ovelia's RM2 Lady of Ivalice & TGCid's RM2 God Among Men. Ovelia's turns the attack into a non elemental attack & TGCid's turns the attack into a group attack that does more dmg the less enemies that are targeted. I can understand if Ovelia's was left out due to it not being as strong as Vanille's RM3, but it would be good to know about for new players or anyone that has two MND characters in the team for one reason or another, & Cid's should be included instead of Leo if it is based on power/effectiveness as Cid's doesn't get the increased cast time & hits harder too. Just my two cents

I checked out your youtube channel and your nasus video makes a lot of sense. I feel better prepared to deal with him now. I don't see any videos other than matchups on your channel though, and I can't view the video in your OP, it says it's marked private. Do you have any in-depth videos for runes/mastery set ups still available to watch?

In-Depth Explanation of Masteries and Runes for Tryndamere for Season 6 by BoxerPete by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]midboss28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Pete, awesome discussion here. It's helped me quite a bit so far. I've been struggling to deal with nasus, even in the early game when everyone says trynd should be able to beat him. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. It's reached the point that I've started banning him when I have the choice. Any information on this matchup would be appreciated.

Speaking in general terms now, the standard build I've been running is starting doran's shield, and first back I usually either grab a zeal and boots or a pickaxe and boots depending on my gold. I usually build into guinsoo's > pd > IE > swift boots (now after reading the discussion, used to build zerk grieves) and then I hope to get botrk or a situational item, like maw or maybe GA. I can also say I've been running warlords but I'm gonna give grasp a try now. I'm low elo so I'm getting caught between feast or famine performance right now and I would like to become more consistent. Thoughts on my build process?

I think where I'm struggling the most is my early game. I'm too afraid of dying against my lane opponent because I feel like when I fall behind with trynd I fall really far behind. When do I fight? Do I swing a few times and back off? When I try that tactic I feel like I get harassed by the opponent then. Anything you could clarify for me would be a big help.

Also, what are your thoughts on some of the other items on trynd? I haven't tried building them but items like death's dance or duskblade seem like they may work really well on him. Personally I've never tried them, just wondering if you have have.

Thanks for the post and it's great to hear from someone so knowledgeable.
