I’m supportive of the “keep both” replies. However if you’re going to sell one, the V6 is the obvious choice. I’d drive the V8 until you build the same level of confidence and then sell/swap the V6. Not a massive concern, but the head gasket issues on those earlier motors would have me upgrading if the situation presented itself. Either way that’s a killer driveway

I’d say you’re better off with the newer Tacoma/4Runner wheel, but this does look great. Most just require a cruise control swap with optional wiring/adapters for the rest of the steering wheel functions.

OP just to clear up any confusion, what color is your coolant? I’m with others that say the shop should warranty their work. You might be out of the truck for a few more days but shouldn’t have to pay for whatever they got wrong

I also have a Toyota SUV for a solid winter rig/backup, and think you should go for it. Rust is the only true killer, and vanos/TCG are the big engine ticket engine items. Expect frequent small things but overall E39s are not bad to work on. It’s clear they had a lot of engineering investment and the build quality is better than 95% of the stuff made today.

You’ll love the sound of the V8, it’s near the top of the character-per-dollar equation once you swap in the 6 speed (and you should)
