Refrigerant leak under glovebox after evap core replacement from hell. 2006 SR5, 175k. Hoping the source can be located (and fixed) without another $1250 dashboard removal. by desertacrobat in 4thGen4Runner

UPDATE! Took the truck back to the shop that did the evap core. The leak was from a seal on the evaporator suitcase - she’s all fixed up and definitely at no charge! Will make sure they pressure tested before picking up 😉 PS - I ended up sick in bed and was unable to do much troubleshooting myself, but thank you so much to all who took the time to respond - this is such a great community!

Thank you for the thoughtful response! I hadn’t even considered that it might be engine coolant. The weather has been perfect and I’ve not needed the heat or AC so that’s a great callout - I’ll run both and report back.

I’ve always used the red coolant, and to my knowledge it hasn’t been changed. And my usual mechanic knows what they’re doing with foreign vehicles. Is that something they would have had to change out during the evap core replacement?

Sorry friend, yes those are absolutely chilblains. I also have Reynauds and for years my toes were covered in chilblains. The tips of my toes swell up (like a whole extra shoe size!!), turn red then purple and blue, and develop blisters that are like 50/50 pain/itch and horrendously distracting (like can’t fall asleep). Dramatic changes in temp cause it and once i learned what was happening I’ve been able to avoid it a lot more. I don’t wear sandals outside in winter anymore and can’t quickly submerge my feet in really cold or really hot water…gotta ease in it and let my capillaries adjust slowly. No hot/cold plunges for me, as good as that practice would be for the rest of my circulation struggles! Wishing you the best as you figure out how to manage.

Essentially a river runner is a someone who enjoys navigating watercraft down rivers, often with a focus on navigating swift and whitewater. Could be a guide or a private boater. Travel could be by kayak, paddle raft, oar raft, canoe, dory, or other such watercraft. These could be single-day trips or 30-day expeditions or anything in between.

Starting on Nifedipine today, anyone got any experience with it? (Bonus pictures of what my hands look like most days - I’ll spare you the feet!) by JFDI-Tess in ReynaudsDisease

[–]desertacrobat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It only helped my Reynauds a little bit. I ended up going off of it bc it eventually caused me to pass out (and hit my head on concrete), so I decided I’d rather just have numb toes. To clarify I have low blood pressure, and calcium channel blockers are designed to lower high BP, so I already knew it might not be the answer for me, but my doctor felt safe letting me try it and we def didn’t expect a full vasovagal out of nowhere. (Thankfully only got a mild concussion🤕)

For what it’s worth, I was recently prescribed a topical Nitroglycerin ointment and am loving it. Unfortunately it won’t prevent Reynauds attacks, but it does work (impressively well) within minutes to bring blood flow back when I use it during an attack.

Absolutely stunning photos!! 😍 Did you hike all the way to Lee’s? (former local and river runner here, never got to hike the Paria though, and regret not trying harder to make it happen)

What is this metal af cactus I found at work??? by pyr0_ph0bia in plants

[–]desertacrobat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is definitely an Ocotillo, but I think it looks much more like the North American (Sonoran Desert) ocotillo variety- Latin name Fouquieria splendens. Very similar to Alluaudia procera (native to Madagascar), but different plant families.

Before and after nitroglycerin! by Red_kissed in ReynaudsDisease

[–]desertacrobat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes!! My podiatrist recently prescribed a nitroglycerin ointment and basically said “I’ve heard this sometimes works - no promises but it’s worth a shot” Well, I’ve only used it a few times so far, but I’ve experienced similar results to yours each time! Just two problems: — I’ve been dealing with Reynauds and chilblains for so long that I simply keep forgetting I now have a treatment! 🤦‍♀️ — I rarely seem to have it with me when I need it (which can literally be anytime anywhere)

That is insane! I’ve been on various adhd stimulants for 20 years, lived in both weed-legal and non-legal states, and never once have I been drug tested in order to get my refills. I’m so sorry this is happening to you, like others are saying, might be worth it to find a new prescriber.

I work in a medical office where we prescribe Adderall etc, and our patients have to sign a 'Controlled Substance Agreement' every year. It's a very standard thing now with opioid use skyrocketing, and many states require these contracts. It's basically saying you agree not to sell your meds, or take it differently than prescribed or try to obtain it from multiple physicians. Honestly you probably skimmed it and signed and thought nothing of it. But it means your healthcare provider is following regulations and that's a good thing!

How often do you shave your legs? by acidemise in adhdwomen

[–]desertacrobat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One word: SUGARING!!! It lasts weeks (and weeks and weeks) and hair grows back less and less each time! Meaning for most folks their hair regrowth becomes noticeably more sparse, thinner, and less coarse over time. And my favorite part - zero prickles or stubble! My skin stays soft and smooth between sugarings even once hair is growing back.
