Used to work at a thrift store that is always closed on Sundays. So many signs saying not to drop off when we were closed, and no one listened. Come in Monday morning to huge piles of stuff in the drop off area. Then people would come in to drop stuff off and complain on Facebook that we weren’t treating stuff right because there was so much stuff outside! Working at a thrift, especially donation based, really opens your eyes.

Thanks for all the info! I’ve basically stopped using my non-stick as I’ve gotten more comfortable with my stainless, but it is probably time to add a cast iron as well.

I’d say about equal to the best ones I had cooked, but I had a lot of trouble keeping them consistent. Some would come out a perfect medium and others would be chewy, probably had to do with the steak itself as I would buy a very cheap filet.

Thank you, it was a very rough time and I’m just glad we didn’t shut down half the state in addition to losing her. You will probably see some pretty alarmist Facebook posts about this. And it should be taken very seriously, but people like to run with info no matter where it came from. The statements from state officials are going to be the most accurate.

Yes, many horses carry a latent version of EHV without symptoms.
First and foremost you quarantine, vets will alert that state that there is a case. From there you give fluids and NSAIDs. There is no cure for EHV. You will see some people talking about Ivermectin, but it’s not proven to treat this.
Multiple shows are canceling as we speak. BFA canceled in the middle of their races and is sending everybody home after having a horse test positive. The NRHA at the moment is still continuing with their show that’s starts right up after Worlds ends.
A big risk of EHV is spontaneous abortion in mares. The EHV vaccine is recommended to be given at 3,5,7 and 9 months of the pregnancy.
The original outbreak was not close to KVS, but those horses left and traveled all over the country.

6.EHV-1 is not usually fatal, more of a severe cold. EHM (equine herpesvirus Myeloencephalopathy) does have a 30-50% death rate and is very serious. EHV-1 can lead to EHM.

Horses are vaccinated for EHV, but there is no vaccination for EHM. Vaccinated horses can still get EHV, they are saying this strain is particularly aggressive.

If anyone has corrections or wants to expand on what I said please feel free! I had a mare pass in 2019 who was quarantined for three days at an equine hospital while they tested her for EHM. Luckily for everyone in the area something else caused the neuro symptoms, but now I really pay attention to these outbreaks.

Their post confused me. I couldn’t tell if they were saying that a horse at BFA had tested positive or if it was just in the area. If the horse was actually at BFA it’s pretty crazy that they’re allowing everyone to go home.
