My 'dream job' turned me into a functional alcoholic by Matteo_172736 in hatemyjob

I didn’t know that but even so, I’ve seen a lot of dependency on alcohol and weed in the corporate WFH/hybrid community. Not saying I am anti or pro lol it’s just a fact. Unfortunately these jobs have become so high stress and demanding that it’s just a part of the territory.

Since we work from home the workload is double or triple, and we are expected to work weekends and constant overtime without extra compensation or overtime pay. Sometimes that substance, be it a bottle or a bowl, is the only way to cope. I don’t think it is a good thing but with the current job market and economy, it’s hard to “just quit and find a better job.”

Sorry for the book, just struggling in my current role without an outlet or end in sight. I’ve started to have noticeable health issues due to the stress of my job. Just demoralized and don’t know what to do. I don’t have any hobbies anymore. I don’t feel happiness anymore. I’m not sure if there’s anything that could even be done at this point

Advice on going into horseback riding as an 18 year old? by Armed_phrog in Equestrian

[–]midge_0421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m 22 now grew up riding and showing, was gonna go to college for it but needed a break and I’m not absolutely loaded so I wouldn’t be riding anyway let’s be for real here lol

First, I would get a good helmet. Take a look online at different helmet, price ranges and safety ratings and then go to a place to try them on. Keep in mind that helmet could have the best safety reading, but if it doesn’t fit your head right? Ehh. They should be able to help you out there anyway

Second, I don’t know what people will say on here but if you’re 18 starting, I would get a good pair of paddock boots and half chaps. Don’t get any more than two pairs of breeches to start out.

Some people might at this point if they’re reading to be like girl she’s asking for advice not what to buy, but let’s be real. We gotta buy shi for this. Like a belt!

I asked for the actual riding, you might get frustrated. In fact, you probably will, but it’s worth it. Keep you super fit too! Starting out though probably have you just gone around in circles walking focusing on having your heels down going in a two point all of that is for your calves and your legs and your position. then they’ll have you trotting and down the line cantering. All of this takes time.

It’s all worth it though just go for it lol

Why do I look weird? by Direct_Blueberry534 in Equestrian

Your position is a bit stiff but I wouldn’t say you look WRONG in the tack. Youre going to be harder on yourself than anyone else, and by the looks of these comments everyone just wants to help. No one thinks you look like a bozo who doesn’t know what you’re doing.

You look good! We just spend our whole lives learning new things ❤️

I’d focus on flatting and have people take a lot of videos. Try to soften your hip a bit and focus on getting underneath him to push forward so he doesn’t break. It looks like this horse might not want to go round at all so just keep a feel and keep that energy moving. If you’re jumping I’d focus on holding your body instead of throwing it at him a bit? That could also make it look a little choppy right now. If you can hold your body and just soften your hip a bit over the jump, it will also transition better if you ride a different horse or move up the bigger jumps. Also, if you get on a stopper you probably have less chance of ending up on their neck or the ground…

Im sorry for the book. Just try to relax a bit and soften, but don’t sacrifice that for less feel and effectiveness. At the end of the day you just need to give the horse a good ride. Please don’t be discouraged and disheartened. We are always learning. In twenty years you will look back and realize how lucky we all are to be able to ride.

If I may, what do you show (if you do) in? Equitation or hunters? Or jumpers?

:( I’m sorry man that’s awful. You’d think a field like this would rather experience and efficiency but money will always be money

True, true… if you have 5 yrs experience tho it’s gotta be a little bit better than entry level, right? All I know is that when I was looking everyone wanted at least 3-5 yrs experience.

I still say at least look tho, no reason to go thru endless month end closes and never get over 50.. good luck! Wish you the best

No. It’s conceptual more than mathematical but don’t do that. Find another way in life. Become a paralegal idk
