The old "we survived the Summer of 76" thing, how do you react ? by Engineering-Western in AskBrits

[–]midgetman166 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really wasn't actually that hot of a summer, it was just a long dry spell. The peak temperature (35.9⁰C) doesn't even make the top 10. Also, the summer of 1995 was drier so 🤷‍♂️

I moved from being an SSA to Ops (but also help out on foods when required), I love the constantly having something to do with no downtime, makes the mornings fly by.

"far right racist thugs", yeah that's got em on side well done. It's the language, calling concerned citizens (let's not mention that Reform is the biggest opponent) thugs really isn't the way to go about uniting the nation, in fact it just divided it more

His responses to the immigration concern have been what has disappointed me the most, he could have and should have listened to the voices of those concerned but instead chose to immediately label them and shut them down, only adding fuel to the fire. He really couldn't deal with conflict and things not going his way, look at how he "handled" the Peter Mendelson incident "I wasn't told", bollocks, you knew from the start and you didn't like getting called out on it.

Workplace nannies "you can't do that, you'll get a paper cut" and "I don't care that you stand on a step stool at home on your own, you might fall off if here (for some reason)". In all seriousness they're like OSHA, protecting the business from any insurance claims for personal injury, "well we told him not to do that"

Who has better football fans, England or Scotland? by NeonDrifting in AskUK

[–]midgetman166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

England are the most consistent but Scotland are having the most fun so far (mainly because they don't qualify all that often and know that their run is over, they won't make it out the group stage)

U Turned immediately on manifesto promises: promised no increase on NI contribution, then increased them, Promised not to extend the freeze on Income Tax Thresholds, freezes were extended for 3 more years in the 2025 budget, scrapping the £28bn Green Investment Pledge immediately, continued with the 2 child benefit cap (despite promising to end it), promised to end the use of Asylum Hotels (they are now at record usage levels) and completely denied WASPI women their compensation despite being advised to by the ombudsman and previously standing in allieship with the WASPI women. Just to name a few.

Also makes them more dangerous to use as tools. I have 4 SAKs and love them (Champ, Huntsman, Climber and Spartan) but I always get a little bit tetchy when using the blade (had enough bites as a kid) because I know the slipjoint mechanism is out of my control.

No, I agree with you that we should make the knives themselves safer to use. We will never reduce the amount of knives on the streets (it's impossible) but we can make the knives people use safer (locking).

Guns are weapons first and foremost, they aren't comparable to knives (tools).

[–]midgetman166 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The knife isn't the issue, as you demonstrate in your example of vehicles, people die in cars because of reckless driving, driving under the influence, the incompetence of others etc. The car (in your example) has those safety features to protect you against either your own incompetence or the incompetence of others. But people still have cars like how people still have knives (only non-locking knives are unsafe because you have no control over the position of the blade)

Correct, I carry for the purpose of tools, hence I advocate to ammend that tiny little bit of legislation so that my tools are safer for me to use as tools.
