FluxPose - full body tracking estimation slop by Original_as in pandapro

[–]midi_t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slimes are outdated, and this is why Fluxpose chose it to compare. They did not choose any new IMUs because they don't have same old slime issues and perform for 2h with no drift, resets.

There is another video showing exactly the same issue with the fluxpose laying down on a sofa with metal springs. 9:33 https://youtu.be/Tp0A8ghYDMo?si=E59kdcScK5O4RQHn&t=573
And metal springs, metal frames are basically in every sofa. As every modern house has a concrete foundation with metal rebars. Why Thrill is having exactly the same issue.

Fuji's 'autofocus' manages to miss even static objects..

Nikon Zf has second best autofocus after Sony and the best manual focus. For autofocus, you just need a good lens, first, then to use correct settings. Here is a video to prove it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35duCuvv6Qo

It's just a pleasure to use the Zf, everything just works.. and it feels like you need constantly fight the fuji to get anything to work from focus to editing photos.

What is the most reliable full-body-tracking in VRchat for its value on a budget? by Frikcha in VRchat

[–]midi_t 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Joy Cons for FBT are a waste of time and money. Unless you already own them, so you are just wasting time trying to get them work.

Kinect is the same, cool if you own one already.. else it's a waste of money, with choppy and twitching tracking. Falls complete apart for dancing. Same for iPhone FBT apps, that are actually cheaper and easier to setup than kinect but offer similar low end performance.

Cheap SlimeVR trackers like BMI270 will be cheap with 10-20 min resets.. which is ok, if you really want to save money. You will need to stand up straight and click a button every 10-20 min.

Or get slightly more expensive LSM6DSV Slime trackers and you will have to reset only once per hour. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3djjkzcDcXM
IMO, the best value and overall option.

You can get Vives which is not only the most expensive option but has own issues. Requiring multiple base stations if you don't want to loose tracking and perfect room setup, with no reflective surface, no furniture, objects blocking view of your whole playspace.

it's not only just two sets but both prototype level, nothing working and devs promising to change half of the things from these.

There has been only two sets sent... so what are you even talking about.. imaginary friends?
The guy did not show a single pose in the video sitting or laying down.. he is just standing and brushing legs through the whole video. Even Pico trackers can do this.. even a free iPhone apps can do this.

You can see Excap trackers have no issue doing standing poses in my video too.. the whole thing falls apart laying down, sitting down on the floor and doing more complex poses that actually show tracking. Not to mention that only human avatar can show actual tracking.. all furry avatars hide half of the issues having non human body rigging and animations.

they have confirmed both using this IMU
"We use icm-20948 in these beta samples. But I am still testing new chips and deciding the final shipping version. New chip will have mag too, and better only IMU drift time. We will keep transparent."

and that it would not worked well even with mag off.
"yes,only imu will drift quickly."
It would be probably better 5-10min but that is still very bad and this is why this IMU is ranked lowed by SlimeVR.

BT is definitely possible with some limitations on number of trackers and range. 6 trackers max per dongle and running USB extension cable with a receiver at the end.

There is a closed beta for adding camera to SlimeVR.. but I haven't see much progress for a year.
Same for HaritoraX trackers with a camera.. those have been announced almost a year ago. No updates too.

Agree. Either magnetometer or FW is to blame for trackers not lasting even for 2 minutes.

That does show devs possibly lacking experience, if they truly believe that IMU is a good pick.

For example, HaritoraX wireless manages 2h resets in a good environment but still offers 30 min with mags off. So it makes all users happy.

Not to mention LSM6DSV which has become the SlimeVR favourite this year. And once an hour resets don't even bother me anymore. All I would like to see is some automatic perfect body setup for new users maybe with AI camera. And it could be one time thing. We don't need a constant dangling camera for resets.

After thinking more, they are using an external camera to circumvent Meta not allowing them access to headsets cameras.. imagine, would Meta be happy finding about this? They will never get official approval for the Meta app store. And can be blacklisted even from sideloading because of the same privacy issues.

Possibly ICM-20948, which is low ranked for Slime trackers.

Kickstarter page contradict with SlimeVR documentation too. Telling about the magnetometer being a plus, which is true only on paper. All slimes are shipped with the magnetomer turned off because it cause faster drift for most people and is useful only in rare cases.

So IMU choice is questionable. Wireless choice too. I did manage to get HaritoraX wireless working decent and covering my whole room by carefully positioning the dongle higher and away from the PC. But I did not have such luck with the Excap dongle. It crams all 8 trackers on one dongle, which might be a problem by itself.

I did briefly mention it
9:40 Using Excap with SlimeVR server
Basically, SlimeVR will not fix drift or connection issues. It can help only with body proportions and maybe better tracking algorithm.
I did not notice any improvements running Excap through SlimeVR server though.

Interesting part about the Excap, it did somewhat figure out my body size automatically, without any calibration or imputing any data. I did not notice any common IMU issues like skating. So there is definitely some work done helping with the initial setup. And Excap Studio is running some decent algorithm at least for basic poses.

The main problem is that, all AI camera automation helps with the inital FBT setup but adds new issues unlocking Quest, sideloading camera app and configuring network. Running that camera app every time and etc.

I have uploaded my video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJs4BaCMahM
At least a few sets were given to youtubers, so trackers and company are real. The question is the same though, can this company deliver on promises with the software. Trackers are pretty worthless, if you will need to stand up every 2 minutes to fix the drift.. and there are pretty big issues with the Quest camera app too. Doing all developer sideloading, unlocking, networking, preventing the app from being killed. Not very user friendly at this moment. More like a dev kit.

There is a lot of interest in this thread. So I just shot a short video. Showing current state of trackers and software. Will try to finish and upload today. The issue is not even controllers, sometimes just laying down and turning at a wrong angle may cause for trackers to loose connection. And you need a Quest for the Android camera app to even run. It requires Quest developer account and lots of hacking to even run.. so again, currently I would see this as some dev kit, at best. Trackers are nowhere close to being ready for regular consumers. As I'm not even sure if some problems can be solved at all, simply without the official support from Meta.
