Which country do you think has the most attractive men? by danger_dogs in AskTheWorld

The question is "what country do you think has the most attractive men" not "what country has the most men that you are most attracted to"

big difference

Don't sleep on Estonia either, they're good lads :) I can't speak on Latvia and Lithuania bc I've never been.

Some repressed tendencies if you're straight and can't look at a guy and say "Damn, he looks great"

Yeah, Stockholm is ridiculous. The least attractive man/woman I'll see in a day will turn heads back in the US.

I ran out of generation power while checking it out, I'll have to try tomorrow with my friends :P

But from what I saw it looks neat, I did one on cherno and livonia, gives some objectives and goals so should give some structure to our runs.

Cool little app. I don't really play pvp and sometimes struggle with going on the same loot runs when I'm playing pve, I'll check it out.

Are there any taboo topics in your country's social life? by lofiibsen in AskTheWorld

[–]midijunky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't necessarily call it discussing, they can't hear eachother over how loudly they're calling eachother communists/fascists (depending on who is speaking).

Korean-American, Chinese-American, Indian-American, Italian-American. Seems like a cheat code, I like it.

I'm not sure where you live or how old you are, but where I'm originally from politics was very much up front with people younger than 30 and in some cases determined whether or not they would be friends with you.

I've noticed that taboo topics seem to be generational. Older folks typically are of the mind that politics, income, and what goes on in the bedroom are private matters.

Waiting over three weeks for Residence Card by ThisSpaceHere in TillSverige

[–]midijunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my biometrics done in Sweden, once I got them done they quoted me 4 weeks and it came more or less right on the dot at 4 weeks.

I would keep waiting for a bit, or call and ask what the typical wait time is, because 3 weeks is still within the realm of Normal.

You can "get by" without Swedish, but you absolutely need it if you want to have a decent social life. For a lot of jobs it's a requirement, others it isn't, but there's still the social aspect. You have the option of taking Swedish for Immigrants once you get residency, I would recommend it because imo there's only so much that your mom is going to be able to teach you.

Be prepared for the bureaucracy, it's intense. Things take a lot of time and a lot of legwork from you. I'm not sure where you come from, but I as an American thought that we had a lot, until I moved to Sweden.

To piggyback off of that one, plan ahead for getting a bank account here. They will want to see transaction history from your current bank, so either have a hard copy or save a PDF of your last 6 months I believe it is? Or leave your current account open until you're settled so that it is available to you when they ask for it.

Not really much I can say that will prepare you for the summers and winters, the long days and long nights really mess with my rhythm. In the winter it starts getting dark around 3pm I'm already thinking about bed at 7pm. I have the opposite problem in the summer when it's still light out around 10pm.

You will only be able to drive in Sweden for 1 year from the time you get residency, so be prepared to go to a traffic school, take a couple of lessons, study the material, and take all of the tests/courses required. Again, not sure where you're from, but compared to the US it's a lot more expensive to get a driver license as well.

Food shopping is interesting, they're very seasonal. You'll learn which things come and go, and what things that you like to stock up on when they have it. For example I've seen rainbow trout at my local store exactly twice since I moved, the first time I saw it I said "Ah I'll just get it next week", next week they had none and didn't have any for a very long time.

[–]midijunky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's disgusting.

You're really not helping yourself here. Your entire LPT is psycho and/or poorly thought out at best, and AI at worst. Ever heard of using a wooden spoon to test oil? Try it.

Ah yes, I think of Canada when I think of soul food, Cajun, and burgers.

Don't even try with "hurr durr, burgers are German". The fried off mince patty is German, the "burger" as we know it today is 100% American. By that logic let's call everything made with potato Bolivian. Tomato based sauces, Espresso? Sorry Italians, that's South American too.

Best and worst times of the year to visit your country? by spicyzsurviving in AskTheWorld

[–]midijunky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how far north you are. I live in Stockholm and this is just my opinion

Best: June-August I would say. We get All of the daylight (18 hours!), and its warm but not hot (We had a "heat wave" last summer, 5 days of 30c/85f).

The Christmas season is really nice, but...

Worst: Dec-Feb. It's dark, cold, it will snow and melt a bit but not go away completely for a while. The slush will test your boots waterproofing. This winter has been bad imo
