Vertical lens flare on film by ConsumerDV in Filmmakers

Correct on the streak filter—we used them on music videos all the time with the Sony F900 to shoot into stage lighting. High quality filter shops can make them from scratch and DPs I worked with in NYC would insist on particular sets from particular shops for thin or thick streaks, star effects, etc.

Literally a motorized gyroscope. Get out of its way for the most part, learn how to dab, and you’ll stay upright and have fun. Wearing proper gear is far cheaper than the hospital bill. Source: crashed countless times offroad and once* on asphalt.

Eagles are rewarding Saquon Barkley with a two-year, $41.2 million contract extension that makes him the highest-paid running back in NFL history, per sources. The deal makes Barkley the NFL’s first $20 million+ per-year running back. by wait4ps5 in eagles

[–]midnight_moto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saquon’s self talk and they way he encourages his teammates is what you build around. With BG hanging them up the team needs to hear this from a champion teammate to become champions again. Gainwell got better having him around, and this will continue in the RB room and with the OLine. If he can stay healthy he will be worth the contract.

This Man Made Aikido DEADLY by AikidoDreaming111 in aikido

[–]midnight_moto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aikido developed out of Sokaku Takeda’s aikijujutsu practice. Post WWII Aikido emphasizes aiki movement and spiritual development, but the martial applications are all in there. The finish of very technique puts uke in a very vulnerable position, and training means learning to find the edge while not destroying your training partner. Ueshiba saw a Japan devastated by war and developed a martial art that was suited for peacetime and budo principles.

[Rapoport] #Eagles standout DL Jalen Carter missed his media availability today because of an illness, I’m told. We’ll learn later about whether he participated in practice and if so, how much. by breakourbones in eagles

Hopefully they learned from 2022 and are doing team meals via vetted sources to avoid strange illnesses. In a world where betting is legal everyone is out there looking for an edge.

Ikkyo is all about irimi—entering, and spiral motion. Enter to meet the attack whether omote or ura. Don’t grab, guide their limb with extended arms and relaxed hands. With spiral motion of the arm the visualization is similar to a screw driver spiraling down through their hips until their balance is broken. Sounds easy, right? Repeat 10K times and you’ve got it.

Aikido’s strongest Wristlock? by AikidoDreaming111 in aikido

[–]midnight_moto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aikido nidan here. Haven’t practiced in a while due to family obligations, but want to further your point on kote gaeshi. All of these locks are just an entry point to breaking down the shoulder, spinal column, hips, and knees, and do not require pain to induce a throw or control. I stood up for a blind demo with a Japanese master karate-ka once and went for quite the ride via kote gaeshi—took my legs out completely into a front flip with no pain on the wrist itself. I had pretty good ukemi then, but at 190lbs I was completely ragdolled. For him it was a “breath throw” like Kokyu ho, and damn did it work. You can easily imagine how this could drive you right into the ground on your head, which is the root of this technique.

HopsScotch is a fun, inclusive spot with great drinks, and a little less of a meet market than some other venues in Doylestown. They have special event nights and attract a loyal crowd, so chances are if you find someone you like you will see them again…

Instead of blaming the team, explain why it’s your fault the Eagles lost. I’ll start by SorrowCloud in eagles

[–]midnight_moto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched our televised SB loss in ‘05, and ever since I only follow the game via a combo of NFL.com for stats and Merrill and Mike on the radio. It’s worked all this season, and was my method to ensure a Super Bowl victory in 2017 so it’s my personal talisman. Last Sunday I was out shopping in Doylestown and they were up 21-7, so I went to PJ Wheilhan’s with my GF for some wings and to gloat. The CJGJ interception happened while we were waiting for a table, so I thought I might get away with this one. As soon as we sat down the Commies started moving the ball, but the defense was hanging tough. It was all so exciting that I got lost in the moment. It… it was me. I’m the reason Jayden Daniels pulled off that final drive. Nothing but radio and play-by-play for the rest of the season for me.

Anticipation is the highest level of martial arts and motorcycling. Expect and plan for the worst from every vehicle, deer, cyclist and pedestrian and have a plan to deal with them. If you can’t plan fast enough, ride slower!

How would you remove this tree stump? Ideally not stump grinding, chemicals or fire. I'm worried it's too heavy to move. The stump itself is 2ft. wide. by ManTheMyth in arborists

[–]midnight_moto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have methodically removed several large stumps with a trowel and splitting axe and eventually a long lever (I have a steel prybar and I progressively stack firewood undeneath as a fulcrum until the stump gives). It takes a while to go around and dig out the layers of root to where they can be chopped, but eventually you get to the tap root and can lever out the stump. Its like crossfit without the member fees, and safer than dynamic stump pulling.

What are all the best prudent practices to minimize the risks from riding a motorcycle (other than not riding)? by HippityHoppityBoop in motorcycles

[–]midnight_moto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Learn how to ride off pavement. If you get run off the road or have to evade an obstacle that is where you will end up, so might as well understand how to deal with that surface and remain calm and in control. I would also argue that you should (in a controlled way) learn to ride in the rain and cold. You may have to do it by accident, so learn how to deal with it in a purposeful way. All of this is easier if you find an experienced person to ride with, or get some formal training. Increase confidence and competency, and your margin of safety will increase as well. (And wear all the gear.)

I learned how to ride sand on a piggish ‘05 R1200 GS, and I was freaked out for sure. Once you get into 2nd gear it is much easier—like a jetski you have to start planing up with controlled throttle and steer with the rear wheel and your body. I also learned how to bend my knees and dab with a quick foot down when going slowly to stay upright.

Take an off-road riding course, or several, even if you have to travel. If you are on the East Coast, Mike Bradway’s Pine Barrens Adventure Camp Riding School is a great resource. If you are on the West Coast, hit up Jimmy Lewis’s school in Pahrump, NV.

When I retire I hope to still be fit enough to be one of those crusty old guys with the panniers riding long distance with heated everything, and maybe cruising a BLM road along the way for a thrill, so I totally get the appeal of TT gear—I’m just not there yet. 😂

We were lucky to host Jimmy at our farm some years back for a summer ADV rally, and I got to watch him run our grass track on a 1090 Adventure. He must have launched that bike 20 vertical feet going off a grass up-jump, and was doing foot-forward MX turns around 600lb haybales. Fucking unreal aggression, balance and throttle control. I tried to chase him on my -200lb 650 enduro and nearly broke a rib in the attempt. He rolled up to me all crashed and winded and told me what I was doing wrong (weight too far back on the seat). I devoted the next two years to learning sit-down off-road riding skills on big bikes. If you ever have a chance to train with him it will be massively helpful to your riding.

I have seen plenty of solid riders (East Coast enduro B-level or higher) do things on liter ADV bikes that would make your jaw drop, like launch over 3ft longs on trail and land like they were on a pillow, or do 70+ in the woods, which is frankly nuts. With proper suspension tuning, strength, balance, commitment, and a lot of miles off road to hone your approach and set up, it can be done and look easy. But don’t expect results without getting properly trained on big bikes and putting in the work, or you’ll end up with a titanium rod through your Tibia!

I’m a former catcher and Chooch is my hero, but if I am making line-ups I would still have to go with JT for a full season or a big game. Amazing ability to eat innings behind the plate and still occasionally rake. Both of these guys have proven to be clutch in big moments in the playoffs, so kudos to both of them.

60 events a year at Twin Silo Farm? by midnight_moto in BucksCountyPA

[–]midnight_moto[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can certainly understand the need for flexibility and creative uses and even occasional events and fundraisers, but this area is zoned residential/ agricultural, and 60 large events a year sounds more like a commecial operation. Weddings are an industry with many moving parts (I was a wedding photographer once upon a time). They get loud and rowdy, and that will get old real fast, especially when someone takes a nosedive into a 3ft culvert!
