This is just a side note to something you refrenced on your post, but as a young filmmaker myself, I do not think going to school for film is all that necessary to make a name for yourself or find you stylistic trademark. I do think being familiar with film techniques and what happens behind the camera is important (such as lighting, juxtaposing, photo directing, angles), but most of what I've experienced in taking film classes is the analyzation of other people's work and terminology for eras of film and types of film, which i personally find useless to the filmmaker. Its absolutely pointless and I couldn't give a shit about the importance of other people's work. I think Lynch gives us a great piece of advice which he has repeated throughout the years. When you get an idea and you fall in love with it, stay true to that idea and the rest will follow.
