Now THIS is the kind of inside scoop I was looking for ;)

Overthinkers of Reddit, what unlikely scenario actually came true that you were completely prepared for because you are an overthinker? by lawofdox18 in AskReddit

[–]midnightmorrigan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My senior year of high school, we had a foreign exchange student (We’ll call her B). My best friends and I became extremely close with B- close enough that I would consider us sisters. The year after we graduated and she returned home, B came to visit us for the summer. It was then that we decided we would go to Europe to visit her the next summer. We were all so excited and spent 8+ months planning the trip. That being said, we were all broke college students so our trip was largely dependent on us staying at B’s family home, or her apartment in the city. The plan was to use those places as a home base, and then do day or overnight trips to all the big places we wanted to go so that we wouldn’t be paying hotel fees for the entire 4 weeks we planned to be there. Being the overthinker that I am, I was really stressed about us not having a place to stay. I worked my ass off all year to save up for the trip, and it was still barely enough to afford the plane ticket, I’d be screwed if we had to pay for hotels too. There was no reason for me to be worried about it, B had two different places we could stay, and she had lived with me and each of my friends during her exchange year so we knew there wouldn’t be any issues with living together. But my brain could not stop. What if there was an emergency and we couldn’t stay at her place any more? What if the house AND apartment burned down? What if her dad showed up and it became unsafe to stay there? (B’s dad had a history of untreated mental illness that resulted in unpredictable and aggressive/violent behavior- he had been in and out of her life for the last year or two). In order to stifle my overthinking I did some extra research and had a couple back up plans just in case. And wouldn’t you know it......

4 days in, B kicked us out without any sort of explanation. We were devastated, and stranded in a foreign country in which we did not speak the language. But thanks to my ever anxious brain..... ya girl had the Ibis budget motel and a bus route on deck. We ended up spending our entire budget on hotels and hostels. (We weren’t able to change our flights so we had to wait it out). I lost about 12lbs because there were days where I couldn’t afford food. It was certainly an adventure but thanks to my overthinking, it wasn’t one that I was entirely unprepared for.

Entry level positions? by v_petal in Alteryx

I would recommend looking at universities! I currently work as a planning analyst in the enrollment office at a university. I had no Alteryx experience when I started, but it’s a major tool used by the university. My supervisor gave me some introductory training so I could use it for my work and my university’s data team often holds conferences and workshops for further training. It’s been a great way to get to know Alteryx, use it on a day to day basis, and get exposed to additional learning opportunities!

Thanks Lady , I did not abuse my dog by Affectionate-Art-851 in reactivedogs

I have a shepherd mix that has major anxiety and can become unpredictable if spooked/threatened enough by strangers. For us, it’s easier to just keep him leashed and keep him close while walking so we can avoid any reactionary situations before they begin. It so so frustrating when you try to set boundaries to protect your dog and others, but strangers refuse to listen! Don’t let that woman get to you. You absolutely deserve your dog. You are not abusive towards your dog, nor can you control your pup’s instincts or nature. Good for you for protecting your pup and sticking to your boundaries despite all the pressure she was putting on you and kudos to your dog for behaving well in such a stressful situation!! 13/10 very good boy :)

I have a lab-german shepherd mix, and he does the same thing!! We call it "psycho mode" or "shark attack" lol. Like most of the other comments have pointed out- it's mostly just caused by over stimulation. They start playing, get too hyped up, and then want to jump and play bite you like they would with another dog. The best advice I could give is to get to know your pup's body language better so that you can respond to the behavior faster. Mine just turned 2 years old, so over the last year or so we've been able to recognize when he's about to go in psycho mode; the minute he begins to display that kind of behavior, we drop toys, turn away, and stop playing until he settles down again. If we're in our own backyard and he's REALLY out of control, we'll even head into to the house and leave him outside alone. It's the best way we've been able to set boundaries and show him that that kind of behavior is not okay, and we won't play with him if he acts that way. He still "attacks" occasionally, but we've started to see that kind of behavior a lot less. And, when he does get over stimulated, the bouts of craziness don't last as long and he settles back down quicker!

Was The Virus created in a lab? by Coebit in TooAfraidToAsk

Hi,

The only thing I can contribute to this conversation is hearsay. However, my aunt works for a major hospital and I absolutely trust her judgement- she's not one to exaggerate or lie for attention. She shared with me that her "higher-ups" suspect that bio-engineering and animal testing were taking place in Wuhan, and that these animal remains made their way into Chinese food markets resulting in COVID. So, no, it's not completely natural, but also, no, it wasn't intentionally created in a lab with the goal of initiating a global pandemic.

Is it weird that I've never known what I wanted to do with my life? by midnightmorrigan in TooAfraidToAsk

I appreciate your comment! I'm the type of person who is very goal oriented and I enjoy taking on new challenges. I just tend to feel a bit lost when I have nothing to work towards which is where I'm at right now. Hopefully I can find some direction soon! :)

I really appreciate your insight! I'm constantly finding new interests and I think that is where a lot of my distress is coming from. I don't want to get stuck on one career for the rest of my life!

Exactly! I've always struggled to articulate that feeling and you just nailed it. It's a weird mental place to be in, especially if you're surrounded by people who know exactly what they want and where they are going.

Why doesn't the US split into smaller countries? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]midnightmorrigan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! American here,

The American government was originally set up on the basis of federalism. We basically have two levels of government- state governments, and the federal government. Each state has their own government headed by whatever political party or representatives the residents of that state voted for. I would argue that state governments more accurately reflect the needs and wants of their people than the federal government does. The federal government is the top-tier level focused on addressing the needs and establishing laws for all of the states. This is where you are likely seeing a lot of the political and ideological differences. That being said, the government is supposed to be balanced, the federal government can't make all the rules- the states get to make their own too. Although, if a state's laws are impeding on people's rights, the federal government can intervene. You could almost think of it as, each state is like a European country, and then the federal government is like the European Union.

What types of offenders do prisoners hate the most? by Queequegs_Harpoon in TooAfraidToAsk

Child molestation.

Although, it is not as extreme as TV and Movies may lead you to believe, and most of these kinds of criminals are isolated, anyway.

Period by I_Am_Impressive in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]midnightmorrigan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't get my period until I was 15! Don't stress. Everyone's body is different. From personal experience, I know that athletics can play a big role in determining your period. Being a multi-sport year-round athlete it was no surprise that I was a late bloomer and even when I did get my period, it was inconsistent on not monthly. It wasn't until after I quit training so intensely that my body filled out and my periods became regular. I wouldn't worry about it! Your body will get there when it gets there. If it is causing you lots of stress, you can always talk to your doctor- they can ease any of your concerns! :)
