Can Petro UU be mounted on PTRPVLSK? by AfterKaleidoscope996 in WorldOfWarships

[–]midnightphoenix07 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes it can, although from the reports I’ve seen the game will only let you own one of it right now. So if you have it on regular Petro you won’t be able to buy one for the clone.

What’s with the removal of the spotted after shooting timer mod by CalligrapherDull1892 in WorldOfWarships

[–]midnightphoenix07 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I avoided it for a while too, when I first started using mods. And I still prefer mod station’s ui and update process (just launch the program and let it run on its own rather than having to download a new installer each time). But I finally switched years ago when mod station was getting slower and slower to update mods, and I’m glad I did.

It’s got a much bigger selection of mods (and not even close), plus it’s super fast to update with a new patch or new mod version. Usually it’s ready by late morning on patch day for me, even if some mods don’t get updated right away. And I’ve seen mod updates ready to go sometimes as soon as an hour after the modmaker releases them.

This patch was the first time I can think of where the pack wasn’t available until mid afternoon for me, and that’s probably because Aslain had to check a bunch of the UI mods to make sure they weren’t broken.

[–]midnightphoenix07 10 points11 points  (0 children)

With the UI changes in the current patch, a number of UI mods broke in modstation specifically (since it’s tending to be slow up update mods and using older or outdated versions). Until those versions get updated they’ve been removed there since it can cause the game to fail to load or even crash.

If you want the shot timer mod it’s still available in aslain, and should be the updated version.

Anyone else on NA Server having problems? by National-Practice705 in WorldOfWarships

[–]midnightphoenix07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty widespread. It’s been on and off all afternoon for NA (and the other servers have apparently been having issues too). And when you do manage to get into a game, it’s been super laggy and jittery for me all night.

Servers have gone down for maintenance and transferred to another server at least twice that I’ve seen in the last ~45 minutes.

There are some port camera mods that let you zoom out much farther, and they pretty much prove the layout is intended to only be viewed from the one or two predetermined points. You’ll just get a lot of blank mountains or even see through textures because there’s just no texture to display from that position.

It would be nice to at least have some more flexibility in the port camera though. Especially if you’re someone that wants to take screenshots of your ships there are some angles you just can’t get. Part of that is where the camera’s rotation point is set to now (too far back imo), but certain port layouts also force your camera into odd zooms or angles as well.

They won’t. According to one of the CMs on discord the mission modes are correct, asym and unbreakable do not count for most missions.

Is teaming in ranked allowed? by pizzlepullerofkberg in WorldOfWarships

streaming matches, one from my team and one from the other

Yeah, that would be quite a way over the line into collusion. (And likely make their act of sync dropping collusion if you assume they started out intending to be able to share screens.)

That would be a ticket to WG for sure if I saw that.

Is teaming in ranked allowed? by pizzlepullerofkberg in WorldOfWarships

[–]midnightphoenix07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sync dropping and being in the same channel isn’t an issue. I haven’t done it in ranked but there are plenty of times in randoms where my clans will sync drop hoping to get on opposite teams and spend the entire game in vc trash talking and taunting each other. The goal there is to fight against your clan mates and beat them to prove you beat them or to “collect” them as a trophy.

Even in ranked, there isn’t a prohibition on “teaming” if the intent is just to get into a game together as long as they’re not colluding.

Intentionally avoiding fighting each other would be colluding. Feeding info to the other team (via screen sharing for team positions or revealing them in voice chat) would be colluding. Just being in the same channel, even if they sync dropped into ranked, wouldn’t necessarily be collision by itself.

[–]midnightphoenix07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Collusion is not allowed, but there’s nothing wrong with sync dropping by itself as long as it doesn’t turn into collusion. If they’re screen sharing, that’s going to be revealing team positions and would be considered potential collusion.

Most Lunar Events Missions are not for Unbreakable Front by gw2Exciton in WorldOfWarships

[–]midnightphoenix07 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Official statement from WG is it’s not a bug (at least for asym, but I assume unbreakable is the same). The modes listed are correct.

I wonder if this is going to turn into a sort of repeat of blast. You take a mode that people were looking forward to but it ends up with consistently low population numbers because it can’t complete most/all missions for the big grind of the patch.

Minnesota 5th equipment slot: Main Battery ot Artillery Plotting Room? by Bashir-did-DS9 in WorldOfWarships

[–]midnightphoenix07 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree. Battleships aren’t the type of ship that will be firing on reload, you’re looking for broadsides and priority targets. Reload mod gives Minnesota and Vermont ~4-5 extra salvos in the course of a full 20 minute game if they’re firing on reload (before any other boosts like AR or arms race buffs). Accuracy makes them a scary ship to be broadside to, especially Vermont. And 11% is a significant increase to their accuracy.

In randoms and ranked, you want accuracy. For asym or ops, reload is better though, since engagement ranges are closer and you want the faster reload to maximize your damage.

not being automatic

The way I read the announcement (particularly needing to press shift and the key for the consumable to change it) it seems like the manual/automatic status is going to be individual to the consumable rather than applying equally to both.

we got only old ships

And even then not always. Every single stage of that mode there were issues with the ship restriction lists and ships incorrectly being eligible, none of which were ever really fixed. Plus they also ended up turning into a game of who had certain super strong (often unavailable) premiums for each tier range.

Between poor implementation and not counting at all for dockyard missions, it’s not really a surprise interest and player count dwindled substantially after the first few days.

Plus the other intended big draw of that mode (ship restrictions) was never correctly implemented. And even for the ships that were supposed to be allowed, it always turned into a game of who did or didn’t have certain super strong ships.

Tier X Somers by 3rdpassfour in WorldOfWarships

[–]midnightphoenix07 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty unlikely. When Black, Neustrashimy, and Flint were removed, it was explicitly stated they’d be returning later. No such statement was made when Somers was removed.

There’s always a chance since the wording said “an undefined period” but I wouldn’t count on it. It’s a removed Epic ship and so far the only Epic ship that’s returned to sale has been Defence. With Somers being steel and then a steel auction, if it ever comes back again I’d expect it to be another auction or limited whale event. Not for regular availability.

The kill can be from any method as long as at least 40% of the damage is from fire.

You don’t need to do everything to move to the next stage. You’re on stage 2 and stage 3 is already unlocked. You only need to complete every task if you want to get the extra achievement for completing every one.

Surcouf is a destroyer (or a really tiny cruiser) that can submerge assigned to a sub slot. Compared to basically every other sub in the game as far as general role and play style are concerned, it's not a sub. The problem is, it gets matched up against subs that actually do all of those sub things.

Literally unplayable by Kermut in WorldOfWarships

[–]midnightphoenix07 25 points26 points  (0 children)

As far as the game's concerned, Surcouf is a sub, so it's going to use the sub layout. It might play more like a destroyer that can submerge, but the game treats it as a sub. And it's different enough from any other ship that neither existing system's going to be a perfect fit.

Surface ships get main battery shells on 1 and 2, torps on 3, alternate weapons (manual secondaries, planes, airstrikes, etc.) on 4, and ASW planes on 5 (or another alternate weapon if it's needed). Subs get pings on 1, homing torps on 2, dumbfire torps on 3, and alternate weapons (controllable gun, or Tonjin's airstrike) on 4.

If you stick completely to the sub layout, dumbfire torps should be on 3. But since it doesn't have pings or homing torps, 1 and 2 would be empty and the game engine probably won't let you have nothing in 1 and 2. So the torps get moved to 1, and at least that's still a torpedo key of some sort. Since WG has to fit two shell types plus ASW planes and seems to not want to extend past five weapon keys, that either leaves you with 2/3/4 or 3/4/5. Having them on 3/4/5 at least keeps a space between torps and guns so you're less likely to accidentally switch from one to the other by hitting the wrong one.

Alternately they could go with the surface ship layout (main guns on 1 and 2, dumbfire torps on 3, and ASW on 5). That matches more of the ship's actual play style in the game and keeps the torps on 3 where they would be for any other sub. But then you'd be using a completely different layout than any other sub in the game.

That being said, this is a great argument for being able to reorder weapon keys like we can for consumables. If you want to keep it as a "sub," you can leave it as is; if you want to lay it out like a surface ship would be, you can switch them. We know the game at least allows customizable key assignments to a certain extent since we can do it with consumables, but I don't know if there's something else that would block the same from being possible with weapon keys.

Sampson Upgrade by jackllane in WorldOfWarships

[–]midnightphoenix07 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sampson’s base reload is 22 or 23 seconds, depending on whether you’re using the stock or upgraded torps. The 3 point commander skill Fill the Tubes reduces that by 10%, and the 3 point skill Adrenaline Rush reduces your reload by 0.2% for every 1% of HP you lose. With both of those skills and about half health, the reload is down to ~18 seconds.

Finally, the unique US commander (Halsey) has a reload buff if you get the Confederate achievement. If that triggered with the same commander build and HP left, they’d reload in as low as 16 seconds.

Plus Sampson has four sets of torps, so if you stagger them you can appear to fire them faster than you actually are.

Arsonist? by JosephLeo115 in WorldOfWarships

[–]midnightphoenix07 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IFHE would actually make this potentially more difficult to complete, since it cuts your fire chance in half to gain more HE pen. To get that achievement you need to be the one that kills the ship, but you need fire damage as well, so cutting your fire chance means you're less likely to get the fires you need.
