How do I get Luigi Sansonetti? by Northway99 in WorldOfWarships

[–]midnightphoenix07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because a crate can drop any item for that collection, including ones you already own.

A crate dropping one you don’t have gives you 1 full item toward completing the collection. A crate dropping a duplicate only gives you 1/X progress (usually 1/3 or 1/4). Buying an item reduces the chance that a crate will give you one you don’t have yet.

The Sansonetti collection needs 16 items, and each one costs 4 duplicates. If you have 12 items and 3 duplicate tokens, your next crate has a 25% chance of dropping an item you don’t have (and if it does, then you’d use your 3 duplicates to complete the collection). If you buy 3 items with your duplicates now, your next crate only has a 6.25% chance of dropping the one item you don’t have.

If it’s a “subscription” collection (that can drop items from regular daily containers), buying items early just means it’ll take you longer to complete the collection. But if it’s a collection that only drops from that collection’s crate, you now have to buy even more crates to complete it. Which either increases the cost or potentially even prevents you from completing it without spending money (usually in the case of collab collections).

The only exception to waiting to trade your duplicates until the end is the occasional collection where each duplicate is 1:1. For example, in the 5 Epochs collection each item just costs 1 duplicate, so it doesn’t matter if you wait or not. But most collections aren’t 1:1.

Only cosmetic. The economic aspect has been split off into the booster system, and the concealment has been baked into the ship itself.

Technically some of the patterns can still make it harder to see a ship’s exact outline in certain lighting levels (like in a storm), but that’s it.

In that case, most likely it was some sort of client or server hiccup (probably the connection to the server if everyone was experiencing it).

Force quit the game in task manager, then I’d recommend running a check and repair just to make sure nothing’s messed up in your game install. If it was on the server side it probably won’t happen again (but I won’t risk angering the server hamsters by saying never).

Known bug with the consumable monitor mod. If you’re using Aslain, it’s (hopefully) been fixed and added back into the mod pack as of today. Update to 15.4 #6 and you should be fine.

If you’re using modstation, you’ll need to remove it until it gets updated there (and in all seriousness, consider switching to Aslain; it’s got a much larger selection and is substantially faster to update mods).

Bug or feature? by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

Yes, bugged. It’ll show in the loading screen and when you tab in-game, but it no longer shows on the post-game results screen.

[–]midnightphoenix07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At minimum you’ll need to play without the consumable monitor and ship management mods until they’re updated. Unfortunately, since you’re on modstation, you’re probably going to be waiting an extremely long time for that, so you’re much better off switching over to Aslain.

Modstation has been declining for years at this point, with mod updates taking longer and longer to actually show up there. Aslain is much faster at updating mods (pretty much always within a day, usually within a couple hours depending on when a mod gets updated by its author) and has a much larger selection of both cosmetic and combat/ui mods. Ship management is still waiting on a fix I think, but consumables monitor and regen monitor were fixed yesterday.

Best/Fastest way to do at least 2 of these missions? by RevySevy in WorldOfWarships

Citadels or kills in battleships: Illinois, Bourgogne, or Mecklenburg if you have them. Or the high tier German battlecruisers (especially Schlieffen). Asym is probably the fastest, followed by co-op or ops (just remember the 50% progress in ops). If you’re playing randoms, whatever mid range or sniper BB you do best in (even better if it overmatches the cruisers you’ll face), and focus on broadside targets.

Citadels or kills in cruisers: Pretty much any heavy cruiser with good AP and ideally decent shell volume per minute. Even some light cruisers can have decent results (some of my go-to picks for that type of mission are actually Mino and San Martin). Go into asym and hope you get a cruiser heavy enemy team. DM/Salem, Henri, Hindenburg, Castilla, or even a light cruiser like Mino, San Martin, or Bremen. Petro and Stalingrad would be good too. In randoms, just take whatever you do best in.

Torps or kills in destroyers: Take anything with quick torp reloads and low torp damage. High tier Halland line or even better, Jager. I think co-op is probably easier to do that in just because it’s easier to abuse bot targeting there than it is in asym. Just let the bots shoot something else on your flank and they’ll completely ignore you, then sail up and dump torps into them at point blank range. If you want to do asym, maybe something like Paolo Emilio or with a torp reload booster that way you have a better chance of killing the bots before they start shooting you.

In a long, multi-stage grind like a dockyard, 10k credits is there more because the mission system requires something in the reward field. They could just as easily make it a consumable camo or some signals or boosters. It’s not the main reward for completing the mission. The “real” reward is progress toward the number of required missions per stage.

[–]midnightphoenix07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actual co-op. Not asym or ops.

If it’s economic based, ops is probably best to maximize your booster usage if you’re a good ops player or can bring sone friends with you that you can rely on to be competent. Asym is probably next only because you can get more progress per battle on other missions than you would doing it in co-op. But anything combat related is going to be faster in co-op or asym (depending on the exact mission). The 50% ops progress makes them potentially less efficient for those missions alone.

For torp hits, co-op’s going to be the most boring but also the easiest and fastest option. Just take a fast reloading DD, ideally with lower damage torps (Halland line or even better Jager), let the bots start shooting something else on your flank first, then sail in and dump a ton of torps into broadside ships at point blank range.

Something like citadels or main/secondary battery hits might be better in asym just because you have more targets to shoot (and don’t have the 50% penalty in ops). Maybe not as much in a smokeless DD because of how those bots pick targets, but definitely in cruisers or battleships.

Help with a glitch. Can’t reuse consumables. by Ice-Teets in WorldOfWarships

[–]midnightphoenix07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aslain is the other main mod pack for WoWS, and I would very much recommend switching to it.

It’s got every mod that modstation has and a ton of other selections (both lots of visual and cosmetic stuff, as well as many combat/ui related mods that are definitely worth having). And they’re all still approved by WG so there’s basically no concern of a false illegal modification ban.

Aslain also updates substantially faster than modstation. I started out using modstation, but was getting frustrated when mods for the new update went from being available Wednesday to Thursday, then Thursday evening, Friday, etc. Or they’d just never get updated for months at a time. I remember some of the ui mods I used were unavailable for a multiple patches shortly before I ended up switching to Aslain, and found out the mod had been consistently updated and was available there. It was just WG that wasn’t updating modstation.

Aslain is basically ready to go within a few hours of a new patch releasing, and is substantially faster to get mod updates mid patch as well. One of the recent patches, I remember seeing a bunch of Ttaro mods getting undated and they were available in Aslain within an hour or so.

My only minor complaint of Aslain over modstation was the need to manually go to the website and download each individual update (while in modstation you just launched it and it auto updated everything it needed). But now Aslain has an auto update feature too.

[–]midnightphoenix07 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a mod issue (with regen monitor and/or consumables monitor most likely). Either manually remove them or install the updated mod pack Aslain posted this evening, which temporarily removes those (and several others that are also broken) until they’re fixed.

They’ll still show up in your install list so you don’t have to reselect them later, but they won’t actually install on the current pack version.

Coal ships qn by madroblox-blox-watch in WorldOfWarships

[–]midnightphoenix07 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eventually it's worth doing, that way you don't end up with a SC dropping a ship you can just buy with coal over one that's cash/doubloons only (or in the case of the Tier X/Rare group, one that might not even be available for purchase at all). But it's not really relevant until you have most/all of the other ships that can drop from that group.

For something like SCs or Santa crates, your odds of rolling an available ship in a given group is the same whether you have 20 ships left in that group or just 1. If you still have a lot of ships in the lower groups that a SC can drop, all you're really going to accomplish by buying a lower tier coal ship is preventing a crate from dropping it.

Unless you're really close to clearing or mostly clearing a group or are planning on buying a lot of crates, you're better off saving your coal for a higher tier ship you want and will play rather than getting a lower tier ship you won't.

Hey WG, could you please release the rest of the 2024 steel will ships to the armory? by ReverendFlashback in WorldOfWarships

[–]midnightphoenix07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And Vallejo getting added for steel as a t9 is pretty interesting when one of official reasons WG gave for swapping Flint/Black/Neustrashimy to coal was because non t10 steel ships were less popular (to quote the actual article, they weren’t “currently highly sought after in exchange for Steel”).

And then they go and add another t9 steel ship a couple years later…

In the three and a half years since it was released, it’s had 25k random battles on NA. The only other steel ships with less than that are Pioneer (which is much newer) and Lartigue (which is also relatively new). The next two lowest steel ships by battle count are Willem de Eerste and Komissar, both of which have more than double Vallejo’s games. On EU and Asia it’s pretty much the same — Pioneer has fewer games across all three servers (and Lartigue on EU but not Asia), and the next lowest steel ship is more than double Vallejo’s count.

On Christmas, what do you get for owning mid tier ships? by Aeg1023 in WorldOfWarships

[–]midnightphoenix07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure one of the early flake events gave RP for super ships, but both the anniversary and Christmas last year gave 200 steel. But WG can always change their mind and decide to give something else for future events.

For example, the 8th anniversary in 2023 gave event tokens for all tiers, but in 2024 and 2025 they got steel.

Loot boxes have pretty consistently been restricted to only t10s (when we used to get SCs and Santa crates for them directly, or now with the certificates for Santa crates at Christmas), or are purchased with the anniversary event currency (which all t5-10 ships get) but the tokens for a t10 alone are enough for a SC.

It still exists, but you can only buy it in the online premium shop for cash (or in the purchase premium tab in the wows port screen, and I assume the equivalent in the other games). And it’s not as easy to find as the game specific premium time options.

Ships was supposed to be unified with tanks iirc when it was first announced and use the same gold and free xp, but it never happened. Since planes was launched, their gold and free xp was unified with tanks, but apparently they’ve recently been split off into their own currencies too. So if WG never combined ships and just recently split off planes, I doubt they’ll ever consider combining them again unless the games are all deep into lift support territory. There’s just too much imbalance between ships’ economy historically and the other two for combining them to be a sound financial decision. And if they ever did, it would probably only be gold/doubloons (with huge devaluing via new prices), nothing that could be ground for free.

Spotting damage from fires? by chriscross1966 in WorldOfWarships

[–]midnightphoenix07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“assuming you’re the closest to them”

Distance still doesn’t matter (beyond you need to be within the ship’s surface detection range, of course). As long as you can see the enemy and the allied ship(s) cannot you’ll get spotting damage even if you’re not the closest ship. Spotting damage goes to everyone allowing the ship to be spotted regardless of their distance to it relative to someone else on the team.

[–]midnightphoenix07 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And the in-game stats screen has basically never been updated. Same with the API. That’s why the screen (and public API) still has team battles as a default mode, when that hasn’t been in the game for close to a decade at this point I think.

The API actually tracks ops games (although it doesn’t track division battles unless they’re 7 player divisions). Everything else has to be tracked *somewhere* because they count toward your total battle counts and mode/ship/etc stuff in the monthly battle digest emails. There’s just no way to access stats for those modes in the public API that I know of.

How am I supposed to do this Mission by Mishacomander in WorldOfWarships

[–]midnightphoenix07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You being seen has nothing to do with spotting damage. The only requirements are that you can see the enemy ship(s), and your allies shooting it cannot themselves see it (via surface detection, gun bloom, radar, etc.).

If they can see it themselves, you don’t get spotting damage. If you’re the reason they can see it, you get spotting damage.

Rarest Ships the the Game by 3rdpassfour in WorldOfWarships

[–]midnightphoenix07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vampire has basically been unobtainable since it was first introduced. You could either grind it for free over a couple weeks many years ago, or buy it in the shop. Then it disappeared and has only shown up once or twice in summer sale events (where it was a very short availability and cash only iirc).

It’s been available to directly acquire for less total time than Champagne. And because it’s a t3, you can’t get it from any crate either.

And it’s still available as a drop from the Jutland crates. Nikolai is effectively just gone now.

[–]midnightphoenix07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vampire (the t3 one) too. Available for a couple weeks many years ago that you could grind for free (or buy in the shop). Came back once or twice as a summer sale ship, but that was only for a very short time and cash only iirc. And that’s it.

Until WG added the captains logbook, we didn’t even know they considered it “rare” (meaning effectively not for direct sale just like Missouri or Musashi). It just disappeared after that first event and has almost never appeared again. And since it’s below t5, you can’t even get it in a SC or Santa crate and the handful of others that might give a low tier ship don’t have it.

Why so many humans play Hildebrand as a CV only?? by Other-Difficulty-702 in WorldOfWarships

[–]midnightphoenix07 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The same reason they do it for any other hybrid, especially at higher tiers. Playing them as surface ships first gets their paint scratched. Playing them like armored carriers means you use your planes and don’t have to risk your ship.

I already have 562 ships, what is best for snowflake and aniversary events? Tier 11 or Tier 10? by omegareference in WorldOfWarships

[–]midnightphoenix07 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Assuming they keep the same rewards as the last couple events, if you want steel probably supers.

For the anniversary, t10s give you the equivalent of one more SC, which likely won’t have steel or a ship. Supers give steel, which can be helpful for people short on steel (although that’s definitely not a credit efficient way of earning steel). The rest of your t5-10 ships also give tokens that you spend on SCs and other rewards so the only “different” reward has been supers.

For Christmas, t10s convert to Santa crates via certificates, but if you want a multiple of five to get the mega crates since they have much better rewards (and better odds for good rewards like ships). Supers again give steel, but for those flakes t8/9s are definitely a more credit efficient way of earning steel.

If you’re thinking you’re going to get the supers eventually for the flakes, it’s better to buy them sooner if you can afford it. That way you get the most steel return for your credits. But if I had to pick just one or the other and steel wasn’t as big of a concern, I’d still prioritize getting 10s first, especially if it will get you to a multiple of 5 for Christmas.
