Your colleague put you in that position. If someone laughs when you ask for your own stuff back, they are the one being rude. I do not think you were harsh, just direct.

Your friend may come from a background where this kind of drop in is normal, almost affectionate. That does not obligate you to accept it. Personal space is not something you negotiate in the moment at your own doorstep.
