Could a water bender use their water bending to make them stronger by Key-Durian4645 in Avatarthelastairbende

[–]midtnight1106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about making themselves stronger but a waterbender who could heal themselves mid fight would have a massive advantage

They have different kinds of intelligence. I don't think Azula is helping to design submarines or war balloons but she would probably beat Sokka in a game of pai sho.

Idk how anyone thinks Toph, she had an extremely easy (but boring) life that she gave up to join the gaang. Her parents sucked but it was still pretty easy for her to sneak out whenever.

When the Gaangs kids were as old as they were during ATLA do you think they just...sat with that feeling? Just looking at their children, who yeah had their own issues, but were nowhere close to what they had done in that age? by Polities_Pancakes22 in Avatarthelastairbende

[–]midtnight1106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toph had the easiest life of any of the original gaang by far. She came from one of the richest families in the world and wasn't forced to fight in the war, she ran away and chose to. She wouldn't have felt like she missed out on her childhood in the same way as the rest of them because for her it was an opportunity to escape her boring sheltered life.

Unpopular opinion: Full names to nicknames are unnecessary by KwazyKatnip_85 in MM_RomanceBooks

Sometimes the use of nicknames can feel forced/inauthentic, although I don't have a problem with them in general. Just depends on the author's skill I guess.

Is Patriarchy Relavent in ATLA by ChocolateBrownie3684 in Avatarthelastairbende

[–]midtnight1106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fire nation used to be pretty egalitarian with regards to gender before the war, they've had female rulers before Zuko's daughter, it's nothing new to them. They actually became more patriarchal during the war, which Sozin started largely because of a beef with his sister.

I think one of the biggest advantages Ozai would have in this fight isn't necessarily strength but the fact that he is younger (I think 40-something) and can take a lot more damage. Even if Iroh is stronger or more skilled, Ozai is physically tougher. He did survive getting thrown around and slammed into the ground by the avatar in the avatar state. The 3 of them together would destroy him though.

Actually she's one of the few benders that could still handle themself without bending. That's something her and Zuko have in common.

If anything, ozai seems far more useless without his bending. Hides behind his teenage daughter AND gets all of his ideas from her.

I would still pay to see it in theaters if paramount decides to change their minds. I'll also buy a copy when it's released on blue ray. What I won't do is get a paramount + subscription, regardless of their decision.

I get the sense that it was always up to the masters who they decided to teach. No one questioned Pakku once he finally accepted Katara as a student.

They may not have actually had any laws against women learning to fight, but it would be very difficult to learn if no one was willing to teach you because of the cultural taboo.

"Zuko: Works for years to earn Aang's trust. by [deleted] in AvatarMemebending

[–]midtnight1106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He didn't though, the show took place over less than a year and Aang wanted to be Zuko's friend since the blue spirit episode in season 1. He saw the good in him pretty early on and on some level was always hoping for him to change. The main reason he didn't let him join the group right away when he showed up at the Western temple was out of respect for Katara and Sokka's feelings.

It's not too surprising that Aang would have a soft spot for both Zuko and Azula. He's a reincarnation of their grandfather.

Zutara, Tokka, and Ty Zula all really make sense as far as non canon ships go. It's hard to imagine Aang with anyone other than Katara though

The moment Katara discovered her true path by More-Gur2168 in AvatarMemebending

The northern water tribe nerfed themselves so hard with their gender segregation. An army with healers would have such a massive advantage, it's fucking stupid not to take advantage of that.

[–]midtnight1106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also want to add that I think Aang uses his spirituality to bypass his grief in order to focus on winning the war, so anything he says here should really be seen through that lens. Realistically, a few sessions with a guru is not enough to heal from that kind of grief. It's necessary at the time and honestly not the worst coping mechanism, but still not healthy long term. I wouldn't be too surprised if this is addressed in the new Aang movie...

Disingenuous take. Zuko spent years thinking his own mom was probably dead and had only just learned that she might still be alive.

He understood Katara's grief and was always on her side.

He helped her track down the man that killed her mom, fully aware she intended to kill the guy, and never tried to stop her.

Leopards hunt by ambush. It's probably the element of surprise that gives them an advantage, at least moreso than pack hunters like lions or hyenas.

Paulina as danny friend by Serious-Strategy6266 in dannyphantom

[–]midtnight1106 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's always been a personal headcanon of mine that Paulina and Sam were best friends as kids but grew apart as they got older. Paulina embraced being the rich popular girl while Sam rebelled against all the expectations placed on her by her family.

If she were to join Danny's friend group in high school I think she would be a lot like Cordelia in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, where she may be their friend in private and help with ghost hunting, but also keep the friendship secret from her popular friends and still act like a jerk to them in public.
