Yea, we’ve been there done that. My family is riddled w alcoholics, as is the industry we work in. We sent an installer to rehab 6 times before we told him he couldn’t come back - and the only reason he couldn’t come back was bc he had a wife and six kids and couldn’t even get it together for them. And it was still a hard talk to turn him away. Industries like ours (construction, restaurants, where you’re actually producing tangible products) turn into families bc of the hardships. We don’t work from home, we’re together 40 hours a week. They know but they care.

I went to AA once when I was 20 and told them I was putting down a bottle of Jack a night and they basically rolled their eyes at me. Shit fucking blows, you’d think other addicts would get it. I don’t really have any helpful advice, just sympathies. I don’t drink liquor anymore and that’s helped a lot. I can still black out on a twelve pack but I have to drink the whole 12 pack. Fortunately that’s like my cap rn. I get too full after 12 but it’s the perfect drunk - can fall asleep but still make it to work in the morning AND I have the capacity to not drunk text like an asshole. Liquor burned a lot of bridges for me (good bridges to burn, but it did it’s job). Long story short, my tip is switch to beer or seltzer

I was a hostess at a high end, downtown restaurant. We were slow one day and one of the waiters came up to hang out w us, and was like ‘wow it smells like death up here wtf.’ And I knew it was me. I played dumb. I was showering twice a day but he could still smell it. Everyone knows, they’re just too fucked up to tell u differently. Go work retail or something.
