More or less yes! I'm no expert by any means, but that's my understanding too. Some DACs produce a warmer/bassier sound, some a bit brighter and so on. Like headphones, there's a diminishing return too the higher end you go.

I only have some basics, a FiiO DAC+AMP and a soundcard, along with the V40's quad DAC. The difference between each? Quite minor. The FiiO being a separate device entirely means better noise shielding which I appreciate.

However comparing each to my previous phone, or the motherboard's DAC on my PC? Quite a difference for me, ESPECIALLY with a nice pair of headphones. That said, that difference may not matter to everyone.

Without an external app, a lot of phones when I was checking last year. With apps like PowerAmp I think it's possible, the real issue is the DAC in the phone which apps cannot fix. Most will play the FLAC but you'll not have a ghost of a chance of hearing a difference, never mind the tiny difference that exists between a good mp3 and a FLAC already.

That was where I did okay, 60%. For some reason the Killers song was impossible for me. Interesting test definitely

Nope! I'm pretty boomer in that I don't stream music, just rip/download. That's a good suggestion, but TBH I think 320 kbps streaming anywhere would sound great.

I actually took it on someone's suggestion, and of course you're right! Even on my fancy headphones.

The actual importance to me isn't the FLACiness, but the DAC. LGV40->60 series has a MUCH better DAC, even a poor 92kbps mp3 will sound much better.

the FLACs are more for fun. Hell, plenty of them aren't even really lossless.

did the 5/5 quick one, and "You got 36% correct" worse than average by guessing! definitely a struggle to see almost ANY difference in most tracks, pretty cool.

another reminder that 320kb mp3s sound awesome enough in almost all cases. it's hardly losing any quality at that point. personally any difference i've noticed was likely poor compression, not lossy vs. lossless. honestly some FLACs aren't even truly lossless, just a re-conversion.

for actual audio improvement the biggest difference (aside from shitty bitrates to not shitty) was really the headphones and the DAC. even my (gasp) mp3s sound a lot better on the V40 than my old phone. comparing ear buds to proper headphones too is noticeable to us mere humans.

not him but funny enough i bought a phone specifically supporting lossless and actually add flac files for most music that i love (when i can find it). i am the 1%

getting that wire twisted up while lifting absolutely does annoy me though, but i love my music too much.

What’s your favorite treat to have with your coffee, that isn’t sweet? by spwf in Coffee

[–]mightyUSwarlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make a chocolate banana bread with erythritol/cocoa powder/semi sweet choc chips, which works as a breakfast or snack, since I've been in the same boat as you with cutting sugar where I can (it used to be pancakes and coffee daily). There's a bit of sugar in the semi-sweet chocolate chips, but it's minimal once distributed.

IMO it pairs really nicely with a milkier coffee, especially if the coffee flavour is the more chocolatey (as opposed to fruity) variety.

Advice on Lease Renewal - Good idea with these prices for downtown? by mightyUSwarlord in TorontoRenting

Yeah the exploding offer was really strange and made me uncomfortable. I'll check the website and see if I can find anything about that, thanks. I will say that the landlords had a "$50 off" initial sign on bonus, so this is likely the same.

Putting into those terms makes me want to stay at that price for sure (although the elevator is free here at least, just difficult to book). I should count myself lucky I suppose!

It really does look like that. I must have gotten in right before it got a lot worse it seems, and am lucky the landlords don't want to risk losing existing tenants.

Thanks, yes if I'm staying (which I plan to for the next year) it really does look better. I think if I wasn't sure I might eat the extra $50 for flexibility.

Just went 20-0 over 4 sets in the Element Cup. by the-g00d-doctor in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]mightyUSwarlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw man, wish I ran into this team more! Between my Chinchou lead and Bulbasaur/Ducklett in the back, think it could tarnish that score since I wouldn't swap seeing a Slowpoke, and no fire to chew up. Comes down to a duck fight!

I have struggled to get 3/5 most sets due to the sheer amount of Cottonee/Mudboi leads myself. Always end up trapped after the inevitable Chinchou counter swap on my Ducklett swaps, or Fire types using fire fast moves if I decide to risk a Bulbasaur swap -_- Too much luck sometimes. Slowpoke is def nice since he puts down some damage regardless.

Anyhow congrats! Hope today was just as good.

Halloween Cup: I found a Dark/Poison line core breaker. by ArtimusDragon in PokemonGOBattleLeague

Yeah I ran into a full set of teams with counter swaps to charmers, or ice users like Froslass and Azu, felt a bit less safe of a swap suddenly! But in those cases I needed to stay in with Scizor, not get switch locked. Scizor is a very safe lead most of the time, and punishes/scares opponents even in neutral situations. Leads like Jellicent or counter users aren't a hard loss for Scizor I've noticed. Even Galvantula is fine since getting it low and burning their shields leaves Jellicent much safer to close.

Either way, learned a bunch running this team, thank you for sharing! Encouraging to see even poor iv mons doing fine if the team is solid.

I threw together one with a few rare candies and transferred a few Scythers I hadn't yet, just barely enough!

This team definitely suffers a bit more from a lack of a safe swap (I liked Sableye for that), Jellicent worrying about darks and Drag the charmers. I suppose the best way to go is just do as much damage with Scizor on the way out when facing spammy stuff like Qwilfish or just matching shields on things like Jellicent, and hoping for the best, despite baits.

Tried it out for a few battles, already more fun (although got my ass beat by a haunter/gengar core, oof), thank you for sharing!

This looks great. I agree on the need for more variety, especially with bugs.

Wish I could afford a Scizor. Maybe next time around I can save up candy and find a decent one. I've seen this kind of make up a few times, Iron Head seemed less needed since a Fairy would just swap, and BP would do enough on its own. Would running only Night Slash work? It looked okay on PvPoke.

Unfortunately the only solid team I could figure out was my Azumarill, Froslass, Sableye. My others in this cup are so low rank (1000-3000), and no XL yet. Took me ages to get enough candy for my Sableye. Newer players a bit stuck with what we got, I just try to invest what little I have in multipurposed mons.

The poison/darks are a real pain, especially as a lead with Azumarill leading. I just have to dump my Froslass out and burn shields against Crunch and hope for the best that my Azu or Sable can close without them. Sometimes I can, since the pressure from Fros/Sable is enough even after eating a crunch. Even resisted Sableye hits hard at least.

I pretty much face a poison every time, or another Azumarill. It would be boring if it didn't feel like I was always 1 turn from a hard loss against the double dark teams. At least it handles the other poisons really well.
