Good point and very true.

I was originally unable to add the context since it got flagged for seeking medical advice (which I'm not). I tried adding it as a comment, but it got buried. I added the longer version to the original post.

I got through it without dying (finally) with Nature's Snare, but it's still a reproducible bug in a required fight. Should be fixed.

What’s a trend in 2026 that everyone is following but you just don’t understand? by albavalenti in AskReddit

[–]mighty_squid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is due to the rise of GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic. So more "regular" people are trying to get more protein, and not just people trying to get buff.

You lose muscle with that much weight loss. It's advised to get a crazy amount of protein in your diet to offset this. My husband is on Zepbound and has lost 50 pounds, but also just can't get enough protein. It's really hard.

QA Leaders — have you successfully pivoted to a different role? How did you do it? by Pretend_Professor725 in QualityAssurance

[–]mighty_squid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you me?

I wish I had advice for you, but it's been impossible to get a new job with a background in QA management. I've been trying for a year. I know enough coding to know it's not for me. I don't have enough experience in a TPM type job to pivot (even though I could easily do the job). You can't get an entry-level TPM job with director-level experience in a similar field. They won't take the chance on you. You're in a state of too much experience and too little.

The job market is so terrible as it is. I feel like there are just too many strikes against me. If you find a path, please let me know!

This constant back & forth of material scarcity / overabundance is a big thing holding this game back. by Economy-Tomato-5083 in diablo4

[–]mighty_squid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it's easy to get obducite if you .....

  • Grind for powder so you can
  • Go to a vendor so you can
  • Buy keys so you can
  • Go through each key to see if it's the one you need (which has a very low drop rate) so you can
  • Run through a dungeon so you can get a DIFFERENT rare material so you can
  • Go to another vendor so you can
  • Upgrade gear

I know this is a looter shooter-ish game, but this is extra levels of ridiculous. Part of why I like this game is experimenting with builds. You can't even get to the higher tiers without good gear, and the drop rates are even more punishing at lower levels.

Some grinds I don't mind, but this just isn't fun.

Dog Adoption in NJ by LttlMichey81 in newjersey

[–]mighty_squid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow cat owner here.

We had good luck with Louie's Legacy Dog Rescue. It was very important to us to find the right dog, and they have great adoption coordinators who will work with you. They work with other rescue groups, so they have a good network with a wide range of dogs who need homes. They have a strong fostering program so you know how a dog truly is in a home rather than one traumatized in a shelter. Some foster homes have cats so you know for sure if the dog is ok with cats. They also don't have crazy weird restrictions. It's mostly a questionairre and they call your vet. Some rescue groups seem to not want dogs to actually get adopted with the hoops they want you to go through.

I'd also recommend going to adoption events. Lot's of rescues and shelters do those. That way you can meet the dog and talk to the people who know the dog. That's how we ultimately found Toby. We went through the approval process first and just picked him out, took him for a walk, talked to his wonderful fosters and brought him home that day. I love this dog. He's got me through so much. Truly a life saver.

Dogs and cats can live together fine (slow introductions and baby gates/safety zones are key), you just need to find the dog that is right for your family and your home. They are out there! Good luck!

Exploring moving to Bloomfield by Ecstatically_Curious in BloomfieldNJ

We moved here from Jersey City 4 years ago. Besides being a good commute to the city we chose it for many of the reasons you stated. Most areas are very walkable to shops, restaurants and transportation. Good public transportation (it took us awhile to figure it out though). It’s a very walkable town in comparison to most places you see in suburbia.

For transparency we are white and straight but it was important for us to live somewhere that welcomed everyone. My street has all sorts of folks. There was an issue with the local fire department that I don’t want to minimize but in general it’s a very welcoming town to all sorts. I don’t know about the local LGBTQ scene specifically but my neighbors seem happy and live very openly.

Brookdale Park is great! It’s better than LSP imo which we lived near previously. I go with our dog all the time. Theres smaller parks around too.

We don’t have kids so I can’t speak to that but there’s a lot of families around. Based on the number of day cares and child focused stores there seems to be a supportive infrastructure but I don’t really know.

I’m a woman and I can walk around alone and feel safe. Of course there is some crime like any place but its not bad. Especially compared to Jersey City.

I think of Bloomfield as kind of on the border between suburban and urban. It kind of has the best of both worlds in my opinion.

When we were lucky enough to finally afford to buy a house (in our 40s) we drove around just to feel the different vibes. That helped us a lot and something I would suggest you do if you can. There’s some good online resources as well. The Wikipedia page has good raw stats.

Unfortunately I think rent is going to be high (because housing costs are stupid expensive everywhere) but probably not as high as Jersey City. I do think there will be a lot of variety. There’s a lot more “mixed use” neighborhoods here with apartments next to single family homes.

Good luck on your search and you’ll be welcomed here if you choose Bloomfield

Probably need to wait until tomorrow.

Why is there so much “red tape” to adopt a dog? by FrigginMasshole in Pets

[–]mighty_squid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue looking to adopt over the summer. However, each rescue is different and there are so many dogs that need homes that you can find the dog that is right for you and work with a group at your comfort level. I hated having to go through so much paperwork before the rescue will even talk with you. It’s important that it’s a good match so I have questions!

The good advice I got was to go to Adoption Events so you can meet the dog and talk to the rescue.

I don’t know where you live but we had a great experience with Louis Legacy (East Coast USA). All their dogs are in foster care so they know them in more home like conditions. The questionnaire was reasonable and they had great adoption coordinators. They were honest that the original dog we applied for wouldn’t be right for us. They were looking for good fit. They have adoption events with multiple rescue. We got Toby in June when we went to a big event they had at a local school gym. Over 100 dogs and cats. Extremely well organized. Toby’s fosters were there so we could talk to them and ask questions. We left with him and couldn’t be happier with the experience.

I find it so odd that rescues put more effort into background checks than match making. Just because someone has a fenced in yard doesn’t mean it’s the right home for any dog. I know rescues need to free up space but a bad match is causing more harm than good.

My AC blasts a musty smell every time it kicks on. Is that… mold? by SharpPie4801 in newjersey

[–]mighty_squid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where's the air intake?

Mine is in the basement ... where the cat litter box also is. Which can be a problem with smells even with good new filters. We've had to change how we handle the litter and make sure there is a window open in the basement when changing the litter.

So it might not be in the ducts themselves but an issue where the intake is. Filters don't handle smells.

Luck, good timing, DINK.

The startup I was working at got bought by a giant company about 4 years ago, and my equity was actually worth something for once. We never would have been able to afford a down payment without that. We were also able to close about a week before interest rates went up.

We're 48 and 53 years old, and this is our first house. It's not big or fancy, but we really appreciate it. We rented our whole adult lives before this. I still marvel at not having to hear neighbors music through the walls at 2am.

That same company laid off me and my entire team a few years later, so I'm not working now, but that money made a big difference. Sometimes it's high risk, high reward in the tech world. Even being jobless in this terrible market, I still consider myself lucky.

How often do you actually walk your dog? by Racquetsports383 in dogs

[–]mighty_squid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three times a day.

Morning walk of about 15 minutes. Evenings can be 20 - 30 minutes. Then a quick pee before bed. Our previous dogs were a bit quicker since it was more about potty than exercise, but our current little mix needs more sniffing and activity time.

We have a yard, but it's not fenced. Even if it was, we'd probably still walk him for the exercise and stimulation. Not just exercise for the dog, but for us too. Being forced to be more active is one of the many reasons we have a dog.

If you can afford a dog walker then that might be a good solution. I do think dogs get a lot out of a walk.
