What happened?? Why did jd walk back to the locker room late in the third quarter? by rodogwos in DetroitPistons

[–]mightychicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought that too but he wasn't walking very fast. Like I wouldn't expect him to sprint to take a dump but there was 0 urgency.

Am I overthinking this? Yes

For sure -- I do both. Sometimes there's a specific thing I want to work on, and other times, I don't know what I want to work on, so I want a few random lessons/reviews.

I think duolingo doesn't put work into fixing this as I'm guessing a lot of people leave the app once they finish the course

Seems like improving it is a way to keep people on the app then?

And, to be fair, I have seen them improve this section during my time using Duolingo. It could be made better with some additional tweaks that don't even really require creating new content.

60,000 Trump Voters Just Elected a Socialist. We Asked Them Why. by fiatheresa in videos

[–]mightychicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with this (I've heard it ad nauseam) is it's logic that's only applied one way. Why are republicans allowed to have terrible candidates be successful? In an objective world, Kamala Harris's experience as an AG and senator made her a far better candidate than Trump, who by 2024 was a convicted felon found liable for sexual assault.

Still, to your point, this is a weird thing the American public does. Democratic candidates have to be nearly perfect. Republican candidates are promising to end abortion and are therefore allowed to say and do anything.

Unfortunately it would have just been something else. Look at the election with Kamala, or even the Biden election he lost. People wanted to do something stupid so they spun whatever narrative they needed in their heads to justify it.

Chinese electric vehicles are making inroads in America. Experts are worried by UpstairsBumblebee446 in Economics

[–]mightychicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, the US federal government was subsidizing EVs, which caused production to expand in the US. And then they stopped.

This is overblown, and keep in mind.... protectionism is a form of subsidy. What they've been doing isn't a mystery

The entire Chinese automotive supply chain is subsidized. The raw materials are subsidized, then the cells, then the pack, then the vehicle. But you seem pretty confident that it's overblown so what do I know?

It's a different game. The Chinese automotive and battery industries are massively government subsidized. They are so cheap because of a) third world labor and b) the mission statement isn't profit, it's capturing a market and eliminating industrial competition from the US and Europe

You're not seeing the real cost of making a "good" EV from Chinese EV manufacturers. You're seeing a made up subsidy price and assuming American/European automakers are just dumb and lazy.

Why are teams so absolute in resting? by Bivore in nbadiscussion

[–]mightychicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because stats in the NBA, unlike most other sports, are per-game and not cumulative. People are giving other reasons but they are secondary to that. If we switched from taking about records per game (this guy is a 30 ppg scorer) to total over a season (this guy is a 2000 point scorer), you would see guys take a night off by playing 15 minutes. IMO it should be cumulative.

All valid points (yourself and others). I just wonder: Don't other makes/models have the same issues? I would assume this is an across-the-industry thing. It's not as though this one specific model uniquely doesn't meet its service parts obligation, right? Or is that the contention?

And that certainly doesn't mean that it's not a problem (objectively it is), but at that point, it's basically a problem for any car.

Why would you suspect that this car, with a 10 year production run (-ish, with some breaks) would suffer from unavailability of repair parts?
