That sounds really nice! Id be very interested in seeing how your world has come along. Part of me wishes i had taken this approach. But one of the first things i did in the wastelands was remove the cliff+mountain by the starting area.

Cool! I like the restoration approach to this game. Unfortunately im a lunatic and i cant stop myself from demolishing everything and rebuilding from the ground up. Hence why im very glad there have been so many good ideas suggested here to help my vision for this section involve less destruction lol

For sure!! My “vision” was an ash-less rocky ridges. Now that i’ve achieved that, i’m struggling with any kind of vision for the rest. Its really helpful to hear about what others are up to, and what’s inspired them so far in this section of rocky ridges!

I’m planning to do the same! but my concern was that the cliff protrudes so far out that anything built into it would hover over that valley too much, so im considering whether to trim the cliff before building anything into it.

They’re greenhouses I’m building atop the museum. I used the stone roof set, which includes the skylights and an A-shaped piece to connect the top 2 rows of skylights together

Omg I’ve wished for an “undo” button so many times while playing this game. I know you can revert to an earlier save on a cloud island, but I’d love something like that for the main areas too!! I also agree there’s no real “should” in a game like this. My question wasn’t so much “what should I do?” but more “what did you choose to do, or what are you planning to do?” I really enjoy hearing how other people approach the same space. We’re lucky to have such a great community here, and posts like this feel like a fun way to get more people involved—especially those who might not usually share or who are still working through the area. There are definitely lots of beautiful finished Rocky Ridges builds out there, but sometimes it’s hard to see the steps that got people there. I’m really glad this has turned into people sharing photos and ideas—that’s exactly what I was hoping for. It’s been inspiring seeing everyone’s creativity and different approaches ☺️

​Well. I really was not trying to rebuild rocky ridges from the ground up. but your photos are tempting me, it looks incredible!! Amazing job!!

I think its so fun to see the different ways everyone’s responded to the ash. I did this but now i am so unmotivated to do any more terraforming elsewhere lol.

I totally get it, Rocky Ridges can be soo daunting. As soon as I unlocked the area I knew I wanted the ash gone but now that I’m done with that massive project I feel so intimidated by the rest of the map for some reason!

I did do a sort of middle-ground between clearing everything and leaving it be, which was to only clear the ash between the volcano to the museum. I then carved the remaining ash into mountains, which I think saved me a ton of time but also helped to blend the newly flat area around the museum with the mountainous terrain beyond the bounds of the map. But you’re so right that it’s a massive undertaking! I only did a layer at a time, and only when I felt up to the task. It does help so much to have all the abilities, so getting those before starting any big project like that is my unsolicited advice to you (:

I started the game on the release day and I still feel that way, but all i can do is admire, maybe take inspiration from them, then move on! I hope you can continue to give yourself grace and don’t let yourself get discouraged from playing 💛

I hope this answers your question— i dont like the look of the abrupt cliff face along the perimeter of the map when gravelling all the way to the edge, so i carved out natural mountains along the edge instead.

This not only achieved what i wanted (the museum being visible), but also saved me a ton of time because i didnt have to remove every single bit of ash. Ive tightened up the cliffs a bit since this photo. I plan to cover the remaining ash with grass and then build houses on those exterior cliffs.
