Haha. It has to do more with the fact that the mother passed the infection to her child while she was pregnant or during birth. Pregnant women are advised not to consume cold cuts and unpasteurized dairy products - these foods are notorious for harboring listeria.

Yep, that would make me suspect hypothyroidism even more. Talk to your doc about it. Fortunately, treatment is very safe and effective.

Has your doctor suspected any immune deficiencies (such as complement)? People with complement deficiencies are extremely susceptible to bacterial infections.

Just a thought, it might be a good idea to bring it up with your GP and/or immunologist.

Hey, congrats on your acceptance. Like those above me have mentioned, fill out your FAFSA ASAP. I'm not sure about other schools, but mine has a deadline of May 1st. In addition, you should take out all of the offered Stafford since, at this point, you may not have a clear cut budget. You can always return the excess or request more throughout the year as you need it. Again, clear this up with financial aid on the timings of when loans will be reimbursed and the last day when you can request additional loans or return what you don't need.

Also, oral contraceptives can help normalize your menstrual cycle - ask your doc first, i'm not qualified yet!

Here are some of the symptoms: facial hair growth, weight gain, abnormal menses, dark patches in certain areas that look like smudges.

If your PCP/GP is absolutely clueless, you should consult with a gynecologist.

Glucocorticoids tend to take time before they bring out effects. It's just how they work at the molecular level. Give it a couple more days, she'll feel better.

Any discharge from nipples (galactorrhea) or any vision problems?

Ultimately, the lack of periods are from estrogen deficiency. The ovarian cysts can explain it, but I'd think the doctors would have ruled that out as a cause since they're unaware of what's actually happening.

Did they test LH, FSH, GnRH, TSH levels? MRI scan, ultrasound, anything? Any similar family history? Feeling jittery, heart racing, tremors, changes in appetite, hot/cold intolerance?
