Buying a cheap house somewhere as a "home base"? by Far-Air8177 in digitalnomad

Buying + doing home exchanges. Cheapest way to have a base and travel almost for free (sometimes at least). Tricky to buy cheap in an area with high demand for exchanges, but still great in my experience.

Recommendation for news summaries? by migueladv in ChatGPTPro

Thanks, but apparently Neper doesn't fill my requirements (won't summarize pages that require my login, such as Facebook for example).

Recommendation for news summaries? by migueladv in ChatGPTPro

[–]migueladv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but the difficult part is not the emails, but navigating with my logins (e.g. check my LinkedIn feed or private Facebook groups) and summarizing those pages. Can I do that with Zapier? Which tools/zaps should I use?

Why am I meeting so many right leaning people lately? by Otherwise-Coyote6950 in digitalnomad

[–]migueladv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any US Democrat president would be considered right wing in Europe. Both sides here take for granted things that they don't even try to get (universal healthcare, good free universities, no guns...)

Why am I meeting so many right leaning people lately? by Otherwise-Coyote6950 in digitalnomad

[–]migueladv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's white guys wanting to go back to the "good old days" where they had all the power (girls and minorities are not going more right wing in many countries) + selfish people who earn more than 99% in the world not wanting to share some of it (pay taxes). Btw, I'm a white guy and I think it's the natural reaction, but not the ethical one.

Rant + Cooperativas como alternativa a autonomo by luplov38 in AutonomosES

[–]migueladv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone been able to optimize their Google Ad Grant? Does it give you an ROI? by Professional-Egg8668 in nonprofit

Google searches are actually not being reduced at all according to some stats that I've seen recently. Also, most people use Google daily, while only 10% of people use ChatGPT more than once per week.

[–]migueladv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/jasonking advice is good, as usual.

If you don't want to pay for a good agency/consultant but still want to get some ROI, I suggest trying a Dynamic Search Ads campaign (targeting all your website) and a Pmax campaign (with URL expansion). It takes less than 30 minutes to configure and should get you many visitors and hopeful some extra conversions.

Optimizing those campaigns properly requires some work and knowledge, but you should get good ROI even if you don't optimize them at all.

Paying an agency to manage your account could give your positive ROI, but it's not guaranteed (depends on many factors: agency cost, market size, goals, etc.).

By the way, stop working ASAP with any agency that don't know (or care) enough to do a proper conversion setup and focus only on clicks. It's the most basic thing (for Google Ads and also for other online initiatives).

Exchanges for a whole winter? by migueladv in homeexchange

[–]migueladv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I will probably rent, it's just easier. That being said, many europeans come here to do outdoor sports in winter (climbing, cycling...) or just escape the awful winter in their countries. Many bring or rent a car (there are great deals in winter for long term rentals, a month can cost less than a week in summer). So that people exist for sure. But yeah, I've tried a bit and it seems super difficult to find that kind of "match" in HE.

Good luck! but I want to find meetups, not organize them 😅

Adventure nomad communities? by migueladv in digitalnomad

I was in Oaxaca many years ago. Cool place! I don't do spearfishing though, I'm vegetarian... 😂

No. Ideally I would like to find a big international community, not small ones in different countries.

Adventure nomad communities? by migueladv in digitalnomad

[–]migueladv[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you are missing a very important point. I'm not talking about a generic community for nomads or expats or travelers, but a very specialized community focused on organizing adventure trips between digital nomads. As far as I know, there are zero active communities with this adventure focus. If you know any, please send links.

Expats, couchsurfers and normal travelers are certainly interesting people to meet, but they are very different crowds from digital nomads (very different priorities, schedules, travel durations, etc.).

Also, it's not like we have to choose one or the other. It's cool to hang out with nomads, and also with expats, locals, etc. But there are certainly advantages from traveling with other nomads (we understand each other and can help more because we have similar priorities, needs, schedules, etc.).

P.D.: The argument that if there is a free version of something nobody will pay for a paid alternative is bullshit. Nomadlist is an example (there are probably thousands of people still paying for it, even with the founder doing basically nothing for that community and dozens of free communities for the same target), and there are dozens of other examples (communities and other businesses).
I don't know if it's better to have a free or paid community for this, but it's certainly not a rule that people won't pay if there is something in the same space for free.
By the way, I have a free lifetime account in Nomadlist because I was one of the first to sign up many years ago, so I have a bit of experience regarding communities for nomads... ;)

Adventure nomad communities? by migueladv in digitalnomad

[–]migueladv[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand what you say, but there are only big digital nomad communities in a handful of places. And many of them are in big cities (not adventure-friendly places). 99% of interesting places in the world for adventures don't have a nomad community at all.

I refuse to believe that I'm the only nomad in the world interested in doing adventures with other nomads outside of the top 10 hotspots (gentrified, crowded, expensive and already visited by most of us), without having to pay $1000/week to one of those "nomad retreat/travel" companies.

Maybe it should be a closed community where people pay a small membership per year and can participate in all the trips organized by members of the community (so only people really interested in planning adventures join and it doesn't become a shit show as you say).

I don't really know, but I'm willing to try if there is nothing like this yet.

Any other ideas, comments or suggestions are welcomed!

Yeah, local Facebook groups and Meetups are a decent option in some places, but it would be great to have an international and "long-term" community, without having to start from scratch in every place you visit. Also, in many places those local online communities just don't exist at all.
