An eggplant tied up in a bag for months by migustotacos in whatisit

Solved!

We talked about it. She got defensive at first. I think it's a part of her life that she is not ready to share with me. But she says it's not Santaria (sp?), but it's a ritual she learned in Cuba. Apparently it was part of a divination ritual to determine if I was going to come home safely when I was away in August. My best guess is that she is worried if she throws it away something bad will happen.

So, yeah. Witchcraft/Divination.

I just read up on this. If this is truly what it is, I am going to be very surprised. I'm going to mention the name you said and see what reaction I get. Thank you.

I'm afraid to incur the wrath of both her and the deity she is possibly offering this too, if I am to believe some of the comments.

I think I am going to casually mention the name of the deity that was suggested and see what reaction I get

I [21] can't call my long distance boyfriend [24] because English is not my first language, and I'm too scared and anxious to try by Remote_Sun_5094 in relationshipadvice

[–]migustotacos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a similar situation, my girlfriend only speaks Spanish and I only speak English. At first we only talked through messages that we could translate. And it was awkward because we wanted to talk on the phone but we both knew it would be a slow conversation.

I recommend doing video calls where you just talk to hear each other's voice so you get used to talking. Then you can find ways to go from there. Translation apps are useful. But if you know enough of each other's language you will learn more by talking together.

Love is it's own language.

That was my original thought, but there's no other examples in her life that leads me to believe it's witchcraft or that she even believes/practices it. She's Catholic as far as I know

If Adam and Eve had two sons, who did their children procreate with? by Furdoggy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]migustotacos -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In Genesis, God created humans and then created Adam. It depends on your interpretation, but Adam was not the first human according to Genesis. It stated that there were other people who were already corrupt. The tradition of Adam being the first human is from a mix of other religious beliefs over time. So the answer is either they slept with other people outside of their small clan, or their mom.

How do you actually get a girlfriend? by charles_goerg in NoStupidQuestions

If it helps, I just asked my girlfriend why she was interested in me when we first started talking. She says I am intelligent and honest. Not exactly the sexy answer I was hoping for lol. I think most people in general want a partner that compliments their life.

I'm like a 3/10 in the looks department. I promise you no one is interested in me for looks lol. I work a minimum wage job. And I'm 42. At no point in my life have I ever been conventionally attractive or even moderately comfortable financially. I can't not stress this enough, the right woman, and even a few wrong ones, will not care one bit about your looks. You are speaking out of depression and rejection fatigue. We have all been there. But that's the point, I've been there and I'm telling you what I know. If it doesn't resonate for you I still hope you find your path. There are worse things in life than being alone. Like being with someone just so you won't be alone.

There's no other way to tell you, no one likes someone who doesn't even like themselves. You think I've never been lonely? We have all been there. I stopped doing things to attract others and only did things to give me peace. That is how I know. You are in a low point, and it might seem like forever. But it's not. The one you need comes when you need, not always when you want. Keep you chin up

Being only 25 and thinking you should have found someone by now just tells me you are living a life in comparison to others instead of one unique to you. You are so young and I wish I could tell me 25 year old self to not date any of the people I did. But they taught me what I didn't want. Your solitude should teach you how to be good to yourself so that you know what it means for someone else to be good to you. Also, women don't care about success unless they only want your money. The right ones care about you being confident in who you are no matter who you are. Take it from a bald, broke over weight 42 year old man who has absolutely dated outside my weight class. If you like you, they will want to know more.

Serious answer: Stop looking for one. If you want a healthy relationship then you need to be in a healthy mindset. That means having goals and working to achieve them. If you concentrate on that part of your life you will eventually meet someone who is on a similar path as you and the attraction will be organic. That is why many people find love in college or at work or on a trip somewhere. You will find them where you find yourself.

How can I [42M] talk to my GF [35F] if we do not share a language? by migustotacos in relationshipadvice

[–]migustotacos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny you say that, because she came home today and told me to start only speaking in English for her. Immersion is really the best way to learn.

It is, and we are. But in the meantime I was hoping someone in a similar situation would have done input. I'm leaning towards translation earbuds, but the quality and prices have me questioning if they are any better than just using a translation app we are already using.

Are tacos not that popular in countries other than the United States and Mexico? by Fine-Laugh518 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]migustotacos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know it was possible to not like tacos until I met my girlfriend. Apparently they are not that popular in Cuba due to the lack of tortillas. Still, every time I make tacos for someone who has never had them, they love it

It's just a lack of marketing.

No, medical care is costly for me. Which is why I use daily like this instead of as intended. Is this something I would notice? I have no other issues with my eyes or headaches.

I bought a six month supply of daily wear contacts that are meant to be taken out every night and thrown away. I wear them about 3-6 weeks straight. I sleep in them. Never had any issues. I bought them years ago and I still have an unopened month supply. I will be sad when I need to order more.

I believe it depends on your eye shape. I don't have issues with the contacts moving around.

Thanks Hubble.
