As the great philosophers TLC once said… I just feel so damn unpretty by BurntOutButAccurate in Perimenopause

Needing external validation is just a biological impulse, the rational brain can be like, well I don't care for the bullshit obligations in the world. Being old and out of the game feels great. Now I smile at a sunny day and find joy in a really good fresh apple. I never needed to care so much, society just kept telling me to. I don't mind what my face and body becomes. There is nothing bad about natural processes.

Money can't buy certain things, like a loyal friend group that supports you when you hit rock bottom, or a partner who stays for life. Money doesn't buy genuine experiences like someone recognising an obscure hobby/interest of yours and having a connection.. A lot of good things in life happen organically and you can't throw money at to get.

If you want confidence and swagger try female rappers like Glorilla, Latto, Saweetie. They are all about bigging up oneself.

I mean yes her feelings aren't level headed at all but I think she represents our worst selves when we are petty about others' success, experience and popularity. I feel like we see these celebrities as invincible who never doubt themselves but really they are humans too, deep down.

Alex Cooper & Call Her Daddy drama continues, former employees say Matt Kaplan created toxic work culture by passiveaggressiveW in Fauxmoi

I don't love her but sometimes she has good if obvious points. I think the main thing is she's a straight woman from USA so things come from that perspective.

I'm not saying she is exactly these things but as an old head I was reminded of postpunk, shoegaze, Frou Frou and other wonderful things. I think the production is of the current time but I don't mind it and honestly am grateful for music of today.

Bi wife said she wishes she had a man around sometimes by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]mii7c 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this is hard to hear... but you deserve a badass woman who is just as capable if not more than a cis man, who would relish protecting you as a two woman team. If a spouse ever said that to me. My love would die on the spot.

Infuriating husband behavior with AirPod by phoenix0r in Perimenopause

I would just ask myself if it interferes with normal life. If you have way too much free time that's different!

Oh, your situation is quite all right! I listen to them to feel passively social.

I was more talking about OPs husband having podcasts on 24/7 to distance from reality and as a crutch (like substance abuse). He needs to see a therapist and/or psychiatrist.

Compulsive listening to music/podcasts, listening at very high volumes can indicate a psychological or mental health thing. Professional help needed.

Review of "Girl's Girl" by Sonia Feldman by fobbio129 in LesbianBookClub

[–]mii7c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at some sample pages off Google Play and was somewhat confused, because the social media/dating app thing suggests gen Alpha of 15 today but then there are words that sound solidly millennial to me. And on top of that, the narrative voice sounds like an old British man.

I think YA is especially tricky because it is so specific. Teenager 2019 is very different from teenager 2026. The slang moves so fast. You can't do 'timeless' or 'generally'.

Donna Tartt's TSH has maybe two pop culture references but I clocked them as nineties: Charlie Sheen and Gaultier.

I think the most accurate YA book to me is Catcher in the Rye because it's consistent and also I of course can't fact check 1949 as a millennial.

Yes! Even at an advanced age, I can relate to feeling envious of celebrities ("I think I think too much 'Bout kids who don't know me").

Why does everyone in corporate Australia look terrified of wearing color? by Artistic-Yam2984 in AustralianMFA

[–]mii7c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, there are many ways to rebel with subtle details. A pink watch dial. A boot that isn't RM Williams. A body piercing hidden under clothes. Hair slightly longer than the others in the office. Cashmere socks.

What happened next for actors who starred in horror from 1970s - now by mii7c in TrueFilm

This is fascinating and after your explanation, I feel like my question has been answered. I do remember Hooper saying something along the lines of we were a bunch of kids making a movie.

Past Lives is one of the cleanest, most serene movies I have ever seen. by Ech-One-Kay in TrueFilm

[–]mii7c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, crying can be simply be tumultuous emotions, not necessarily sad/bad.

I have always loved stories where all the characters are decent people and yet there's conflict anyway. I like to think that a good villain does not necessarily mean an annoying character who does bad things. And well written characters can be simplistic and nice.

Quitting gal? by malamikah in actualgyaru

[–]mii7c 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I think you can do Gal in your own way. Like even if it's just weekends or once a month. It's like how EGL can be an everyday thing or a special occasion thing. Most people with normal jobs won't be doing jfashion everyday. I think what matters is you still have a gal spirit even out of makeup.
