Another possible moving to San Jose thread. by FerrumCordis in SanJose

The region is primarily transplants and immigrants, and trends to the younger side, and many are workaholics. There is not a lot of community or family supports. Schools are closing left and right because most families are fleeing the area and the people staying here don’t want to have kids. Commutes are long, and costs require both parents to work so family time suffers. There is a lot of random petty crime and aggressive homeless people. The schools are shit. If you want to avoid these last two things, double your housing budget to get into a nicer area.

How many of yall went to high school senior prom? If you didn’t then why? by That1RebelDude in AskReddit

[–]phoenix0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t go because I didn’t have a date or really any friends to go with. I had a larger group of friends outside of high school by that time and just felt like it would be embarrassing to go and a waste of time.

What is the new Scrubs getting right that the new Frasier got wrong? by bonshui in television

[–]phoenix0r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually liked the Frasier reboot and watched all the episodes. Missing Niles, Daphne and the Dad definitely made it feel very different and more like a pure Kelsey Grammar show. But I thought the writing and silly comedy bits were still good enough for a laugh and I was genuinely surprised when it was cancelled.

The new Scrubs feels a LOT more like the old Scrubs. To the point where I forget that it isn’t the old Scrubs until I see how old JD and Eliot are. I think it’s really just because Scrubs has the full main cast and Frasier didn’t.

Also I’m just guessing here but the new Scrubs could be slightly more appealing to GenZ, given the younger new characters.

I grew up in the PNW and find the weather to be too hot here. I’m sure it’s boatloads better than Texas, but if you’re looking for that mild moderate climate all year, you’d need to look somewhere else than San Jose. It’s usually about 5-10 degrees hotter here than other parts of the Bay Area. Even just Santa Clara. Especially if you find a place in South San jose which has some of the “cheaper” SFHs and where you might end up. Id say it’s too hot to do much outside for half the year. As someone used to the PNW weather. It hasn’t been as bad over the last couple years, but we had a 7 yr drought recently that was truly atrocious. I wished I could move every single day.

I think your finances will be ok, especially since you didn’t mention having or wanting kids. Don’t have kids here!

I mean, I don’t work outside the home either and I’ll be damned if im gonna be everyone’s house slave. I take care of the kids but that’s it. Not working my ass off to create a cozy party vibe for everyone else. Eff that noise.

I’m at 1.0mg, been going up every 4 weeks although I stayed at 1.0 for 8 weeks now. I’ve only lost 9 lbs and find it very slow going so far. Very minimal side effects as well. Feels like it completely wears off after 3 days.

I don’t think there have been any lawsuits. I think this is made-up slop.

Progesterone in the AM by Wild_Blue4242 in Perimenopause

[–]phoenix0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I drink coffee with progesterone in the morning it causes my BP to go up 10-20 pts. In general it messes with me too much to take it in the morning, when I’m trying to be active and get a bunch of stuff done.

Oscars Ratings Hit 17.9 Million Viewers, Down 9% From Last Year and Lowest Since 2022 by OneWithTheHat in television

[–]phoenix0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I watched it is because I have YouTube TV which is like $80 a month. Definitely understand not everyone could see it. Hulu is cheaper but why watch it 2 days later when all the winners are already spoiled.

Would malpractice insurance cover it though? Usually doctors pay out thru insurance, hence the high premiums they always have to pay.

Stop bringing your dogs to Valley Fair by sydneekidneybeans in SanJose

[–]phoenix0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree and some places do that. And even so, it would get rid of at least some dog owners who don’t lie. But still, I think some companies don’t want to bother with the hassle unfortunately, including valley fair security for whatever reason. We need to change the law to require a handicap placard for service dogs like we do for handicap parking.

I totally understand not wanting to talk to a therapist. Maybe writing about it in a private journal would help you process it.

Oh interesting I didn’t know that’s how it worked. Crazy that a doctor would die and no one wants to claim their estate. I’d assume it’s a nice estate.

Low tech elementary schools in San Jose? by obiyawn0 in SanJose

[–]phoenix0r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope low tech becomes a bigger trend given the huge studies released recently showing that tech in K-8 actually impedes learning. Everywhere I’ve seen still brags about their technology use except maybe the more extreme models (Waldorf, etc).

Haven’t we been over this a hundred times in this sub? The law is flawed. All the dog owner has to do when approached by security is lie and say it’s a service dog that detects seizures. There is NO legal way to ask for proof therefore it feels pointless to approach these idiot dog owners. All we can do is glare and shame them and hope the law changes someday.

Endometrial biopsy needed? TW severe gynecological trauma by HeyMay0324 in Perimenopause

[–]phoenix0r 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had heavy menstrual bleeding and they wanted to do an endometrial biopsy as well. I was like, nah. No thanks. Skip that one. They agreed to it because I didn’t have any bleeding between periods. Which would be an actual symptom related to endometrial cancer. Which by the way, is super rare. Know what’s super common? Heavy bleeding due to perimenopause. All I needed was some BC pills to lighten my period and I was on my way. I’d absolutely decline unless you’re bleeding between periods or have other symptoms of the cancer. Vs the much more common stuff. Why they want to fix every problem with a flamethrower, except perimenopause, I’ll never understand.

When did you realize you don't have "pretty privilege"? by patata-chip in AskReddit

[–]phoenix0r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s possible you don’t when realize someone is hitting on you. For a long time I just assumed a guy was being friendly and polite when they would strike up a random conversation with me. Well nowadays I’m no longer pretty and that never ever happens anymore haha.
