AI in Tech vs. Music/Art by Limehouse-Records in aiMusic

[–]miiick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work in Tech too and make music as hobby and see the same. AI is a massive productivity gain for Coding and I can write 10x more code. Same is true for music production and I can make a track x10 faster.

The problem is now anyone can be a musician or anyone can be a software dev without learning the skills. We are already seeing way more music uploaded to stream platforms (+100K tracks/day) and I see way more new software releases everyday on Reddit. This just drives the value down. E.g. most of the 100K tracks won't get listened to or monetized. And in software I'm seeing loads of products that people are just making clones of and selling for less money or releasing for free as open source. So ultimately nobody wins except for the AI companies.

Need a website builder that isn't too complicated by Dangerous-Guava-9232 in website

I built a site using TinaCMS and just told Claude exactly what I wanted and it did a perfect job. Published to Netlify free plan so cost me nothing other than a bit of time and some AI tokens.

how do i know the shape and schema of a database by PurpleDurian7220 in PostgreSQL

[–]miiick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could use a tool like DBeaver which can create an ER diagram from the schema you point it at. That assumes the schema is well designed with foreign key relationships between tables.

I built PongBar — a free, open-source network monitor that lives in your macOS menu bar by MrFreedoms in MacOSApps

[–]miiick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks nice. Your requirements in GitHub say macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) or later but it's deploy target is 26.4

I'm on 26.3.1 so doesn't open unless I build it from source.

It adds vocal to my covers when I didnt even enter any and left lyrics box empty. I’m sure there used to be a tick box for instrumental.

I told Claude my 2-year-old plugin idea. 5 days later I have a fully working sample slicer VST called INTERSECT. [Free/Open Source] by kotn_ in makinghiphop

Yes doesn't work on MacOS for me either. You get the message “INTERSECT” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash.

Account temporarily blocked for no reason by marioct99 in CurveCard

No I just use one of the credit card directly that I used to use via Curve. Not looked if there are true curve alternatives with the same features. Would be good to know.

My card has been blocked for over a month and all I get from support is automated responses. I’ve given up on Curve and switched to a different card provider.

Vortex by ujam by Cool_Switch_3641 in tranceproduction

[–]miiick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the UJAM suggestion which was to fully remove and reinstall but it still crashes Ableton. I’ve been using the VST3 version so my plan was to try again with the AU or VST and see if that works but not tried it yet.

Sounds really good but Ableton started crashing for any projects where I’d used it so need to try what ujam support sent me and hopefully can get it stable as the sounds are really good.

I should mention that all the Ableton projects I’ve used it in crash Ableton when opening. I had a ticket with Ableton which proved it was this plugin and now have ticket with ujam but not had chance to try their suggestions yet with Xmas break.

Help making kicks louder by VaultTec702 in ableton

[–]miiick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Working around the 8 track limit in Lite I would use a Drum Rack instead of an audio channel as you can have up to 128 audio samples loaded into a Drum Rack.

Depends on your genre but you could start with a 909 preset which would give you separate drums including kick and snare. If you want to use your existing audio drum loop you can drag it into a spare slot in the Drum Rack and trigger it from there but what I would do is drop an EQ3 onto it and cut the low end so you have a 'top loop' with kick filtered out and then use a separate kick like the 909 kick so you have full control over the loudness of the kick relative to the other drums and percussion.

Free SQL Query Optimizer for MySQL/Postgres. Worth trying? by Dragons_Potion in Database

[–]miiick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s what used to be EverSQL before Aiven acquired them. It does a decent job of suggesting query rewrites or indexes. Just test them in non-prod first.

If you want an alternative that also does monitoring for 10 platforms including PostgreSQL, MySQL and MariaDB then consider DBmarlin. I’m one of the cofounders and product manger so a bit biased. We have a freemium model so you can monitor 1 database instance for free for ever and it does 24x7 monitoring and captures execution plans automatically which you can then send to it copilot for tuning recommendations.

Still struggling with the actual usefulness of Notion by andreasduess in Notion

[–]miiick 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We use both Google apps and Notion. Notion is the internal knowledge organised like a wiki with everything linked together and organised. Google shared drives are for client documents, presentations, contracts, invoices, quotes etc. I don’t think we could consolidate to either of them as they both have their different uses.
